Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Not sure you can call him a stud just because he can pitch in the cold. Still would have a ways to go if he was pitching in the warm every start. I said he can become a stud if he learns how to pitch in cold weather. Key word "learns".
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Jacob Brentz 4ip 0h 0r 2bb 2so. He has pitched well for a raw guy. Hopefully this translates to Short season next year edit: that 6.2 bb/9 is ugly as hell but a 3.6 bb/9 in his last 6 appearances spanning 22 innings
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 My boy? My boy. - Jake Brentz - Jacob Anderson - Daniel Norris - Christian Lopes 2/4 so far Also around the league: -C.J. Cron -Jose Fernandez -Corey Seager -Joey Gallo -Dom Smith -Kris Bryant Missed on Cron, can't give myself Fernandez cause I thought he'd be a #3, holy f*** did I miss on Dom Smith. Also thought J.P. Crawford and Braden Shipley wouldn't be worth taking at 10. Derp. 3/6.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Is Dwight Smith Jr a top 10 prospect for you guys? .288/.364/.445/.809 132 wRC+

But you could say the same about Nay, I know I know he has power potential. Until he shows it I think he's in the same boat

Until he shows it I think he's in the same boat 3B is more valuable than LF but I agree I don't think Nay is a great prospect either. My top 10 is: Norris Sanchez Pompey Osuna Castro Hoffman Barreto Pentecost Graveman Nay

Until he shows it I think he's in the same boat Sure, but as you just said, the power is there for Nay. He also still plays a more premium position (3B) which gives him more leeway even if he's not blasting 25+ homeruns every year. In Smith's case, he is actually supposedly shorter than listed (I've seen 5'9) so he's really at his physical limits if he's not playing CF. However, I will admit that his increased walk rate this year makes him more interesting than he was going into the season...its still hard to see him as having enough upside to justify a Top 10 ranking.

Not exactly easy to get regular PT with Pujols on the team.

Not exactly easy to get regular PT with Pujols on the team. Meh, he wasn't great in A+ or AA and had a .378 BABIP in AAA. He's a 24 y/o 1B/DH. Figured he'd have hit a bit better in the minors. I dunno what I was expecting out of him (knew a lot less back then) but eh.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Ryan Borucki has only walked 9 in 53.1 innings
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 For me Graveman and Nay are out. Urena and Labourt are in Damn I forogt about Urena. I would put him in the 10 spot for me. Graveman is a guy I think you trade in the offseason to maximize his value.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Reynaldo Lopez Pith Type Present Grade Future Grade Sitting Velocity Peak Velocity Report FB 70 80 94-98 99 Elite velocity; explosive offering capable of reaching upper velo bands on a consistent basis; easy velo; heavy fastball off a terrific plane; shows arm-side run as well; FB has extreme life and hitters have difficult time barreling; command is very projectable; able to spot his pitches; keep ball low and was attacking hitters low all night; could be plus command in future; command wavered in final two innings when he started to tire; held velocity in stretch at 94-97 velo band; touched 97 in 6th; needs to work on attacking glove side with FB; could be one of the most electric FB from a SP in the game. CB 50 60 76-80 82 11-5 offering; inconsistent currently; flashes shape and depth at its best; tight spin with good rotation through its trajectory; arm speed is consistent with FB; cast a couple; release points are slightly inconsistent but looks to still be learning feel for the pitch; best in the 76-78 velo band; could be a plus offering when he is able to throw more consistently; command is currently fringe. CH 40 50 84-86 87 Able to replicate FB arm speed; pitch has feel; too firm right now but displays mild fading action; able to work low in zone and only hung one in the middle of the plate out of a dozen; command is currently below-average; release points seem to waver; repetition and refinement of CH are well in reach and could be an average pitch with more consistency. Nationals might have a gem in the making. Signed him for 17k per BP

GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 cough no such thing as floor cough What's the Osuna > Hoffman argument? Interested in hearing that POV, might sway my opinion. Also Borucki is up there for me but being a bit more cautious with him and Jansen.

They were similarly ranked in their respective draft classes and Smoral seems to be developing nicely all be it at a slower pace because of the injuries.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 At least we made the most of the pick even though I'd take Crawford or Shipley over Pentecost The thing I can't stand is when people get mad over us not signing our first round picks because of lost development time. Not signing Beede turned into Stroman who is in the MLB and contributing when Beede was drafted a second time. Bickford turned into Pentecost who could make the majors faster than Bickford as well.
