burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I also hope AA is savvy enough to sign some quality FA position players to fill holes if we do get that good cheap pitching staff we're dreaming of. Or use some of those pitching prospects to acquire some young position players. I feel like the Cubs would be a good match but they seem to not want to trade for pitching prospects. My dream scenario is to sign McCarthy in the off season for something like 2 years and 20 or so million and trade Buehrle for a couple prospects. Doing that you could save at least 8 million and the performance might even be better.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Adisson Russel for Sanchez, Nolin and Lugo? Cubs still probably wouldn't do that.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Cubs have too many shortstops We don't have enough Let's make a deal And they still have a 117 wRC 3B that seems to need a move to 2B full time...who is not in their picture at all. I wish the Jays had a guy like that...but babysitting is important too
baubau Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Adisson Russel for Sanchez, Nolin and Lugo? Cubs still probably wouldn't do that. They may. The Cubs have a lot of bats in their system but aside from C.J. Edwards I can't think of many high end pitchers in their farm right now. With that being said, I am sure they'd find better pitching prospects than Sanchez/Nolin if they were dangling Russel.
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Yeah, Russell is what, a top 5? Sanchez is a top 30. Nolin and Lugo are nice add on pieces but they aren't top 100
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I love that that idiot just posted a stupid Photoshopped picture of AA having anal sex with Hitler and no one but me probably even saw it before I deleted the account and the post/picture with it. It takes me less than 5 seconds. LOL. Loser.

Yeah if I were the Jays that wouldn't be my final offer. Id trade Sanchez and Norris and maybe a couple other lesser prospects for Russel and #75-150 prospect.

Pierce Johnson is a pretty good pitching prospect himself, Vizcaino was a great prospect before he blew out his arm but I think the Cubs are making him a full time reliever
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 As a Cubs fan in my spare non-Jays time, I don't get the hype with Johnson. He's 23 and still working out the walks problem. He's a nice spect but I wouldn't put him, say, top 75.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I just hope our pitchers can stay healthy. With the amount of talent there could easily be 4 or 5 pitching top 100 prospects by next year. Some lists could have 4 this season with; Sanchez, Norris, Hoffman, and Osuna. I could see Graveman and Boyd getting some top 100 love as well.

I could see Graveman and Boyd getting some top 100 love as well. I don't see Graveman or Boyd getting that consideration at all. Sure they are putting up good numbers but I doubt they are even in the Jays top 20. Out of all of the old polished pitchers I would think Taylor Cole is the most regarded.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Boyd is definitely in the Jays' top 20.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Boyd is definitely in the Jays' top 20. Do you have any reports on his stuff?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Do you have any reports on his stuff? I seem to recall Ace posting some content on him.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 If there is something we need, its another lazy Dominican with an IQ of 10 who is playing well below his capability while costing us a ton of money. He's on a reasonable contract. Those are some bold statements as well. Not sure they're if you were just being hyperbolic though.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I seem to recall Ace posting some content on him. I think best case scenario he turns into a Sean Nolin. Even if all goes right I still can't see him being successful in Toronto as a soft tossing flyball pitcher at RC. It would be nice for him to keep putting up numbers so we could trade him.

Graveman will be the highest rated of the bunch. All 3 could sneak in to some lists of the author likes their stuff. I doubt any make multiple lists though.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/prospects/watch/y2013/ Matt Boyd Rank: 72 Oregon State, Senior Height: 6'3", Weight: 215 Position: LHP DOB: 2/2/1991 Bats: L, Throws: L Twitter: @mattboyd31 Drafted: 2013, 6th (175) - TOR Scouting Grades* (present/future): Fastball: 5/5| Curve 4/5 | Slider: 4/5 | Changeup: 4/5 | Control: 4/5 | Overall: 4/5 Boyd spent his first three years at Oregon State as a reliever, but is starting for the first time as a senior after not signing with the Cincinnati Reds, who took him in the 2012 Draft. As a starter, he's shown the ability to mix four pitches well, all of which could be Major League average as he develops them. Big, strong and durable, he throws his fastball, curve, slider and changeup around the plate consistently and varies his arm slot to give hitters different looks. A team that takes Boyd can give him the chance to remain as a starter, knowing that he had success as a lower-angle lefty reliever in the past.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Jen-Ho Tseng is the Cubs best pitching prospect. He's legit.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 GD said Boyd has ace stuff. Reports have him hitting 98 with plus-plus secondaries.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Reports have him hitting 98 with plus-plus secondaries. Source? Nothing I've read says anything like that about Boyd.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Haha wow. I'm disappointed in myself.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I think Matt Boyd could become a serviceable #4/#5 starter. For $500k, there's value in that. The organization keeps yoyo'ing him from AA - A+ although I think he should be in AA for good. I think Taylor Cole is the guy to watch out for right now, classic case of a late bloomer. If he's back to the power pitcher he was when we drafted him (took 2 years off to do missionary work in TO), look out. Hes on my radar. Not as high as any of those 3 I listed IMO. Mostly due to age related caveats.
