theblujay Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 I went to the NH game tonight, two nobodies pitching so nothing to see there...Pompey had a hard ground out to 2nd, a walk, a K and a 2B. I missed the groundout, the walk was a great AB, he fouled off 3 tough pitches before taking a close pitch for ball 4. The K was uuuuuugly, two wild swings at breaking balls that bounced. The double was ripped right over first base, I thought he could've had a triple but he cruised into 2B instead. He had very little action in the field but showed good range easily getting to a shallow fly ball. Burns made some real nice plays at third and had a couple nice ABs fwiw.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Author Posted July 18, 2014 Oh yeah that was all Pompey batting left handed. His swing looked really nice: quick and compact.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 18, 2014 Posted July 18, 2014 Badler called it. i don't know spank i think i called it first. http://www.bluejaysmessageboard.com/threads/2515-2014-quot-Sleeper-Bust-New-Legit-Guy-quot?highlight=smoral

TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 those of you with MILB.tv turn on the Reading vs. New Britain game. Berrios is triple digiting the gun about every 5th pitch. 101 twice in the second

I guess I just don't have clue.... Hahahaha
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Well they're definitely not worth that lol
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Well they're definitely not worth that lol Were worth Russell I mean't... I would think two of them would be. Either way I'm sure a lot of GMs would be split.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I'm not sure if all three of them are worth Russell, honestly.
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Listening to an interview with Rick Langford, Blue Jays roving pitching instructor and rehab coordinator. Will post if I hear anything interesting I don't get the love for Russell. He doesn't steal a ton of bags, he's had exactly one season with more then ten jacks and it's not like he's Ozzie Smith with the glove.

He doesn't steal a ton of bags, he's had exactly one season with more then ten jacks and it's not like he's Ozzie Smith with the glove. He's been in the minors three seasons. -Season one: 16 HR/550 -Season two: 15 HR/550 -Season three: Hammy injury He's also got an above average glove at short and will stick there long term. He's got a good walk rate, good OBP skills, good power, a good glove and he plays SS. He's one of the best prospects in the game. Aaron Sanchez is s***, Dalton Pompey has questions himself and Dan Norris is, unfortunately, a guy who gets paid to contort his arm in unnatural ways, also known as a pitcher. I think I'd take Addy Russell over them unless I had a three way deal to flip Sanchez for something good from, like, RAJ.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 This doesn't make any sense. He says one of the most important things they preach in the organization is fastball command, and that is a must when you move up to levels above short season. Aaron Sanchez has s*** command but they keep moving him up, and now there is talk of him being promoted to the MLB to pitch out of the bullpen? Maybe these decisions were made above him or against his advice. It seems Gibbons has been asking for Sanchez for a while the same way he kept asking for McGowan to be moved to the bullpen. It looks like he'll get his wish.

Like Yunel he only has about average to slightly above average range, but he's got great hands and a canon arm.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Smoral 3 scoreless, walk, 4 K's Urena (Opening eyes) 2-2, .315 AVG
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 JFaS, what about injured Norris for Handsome Jake?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Smoral 3 scoreless, walk, 4 K's Urena (Opening eyes) 2-2, .315 AVG I may have to eat my words on Smoral, i always hated his lack of strike throwing ability. Granted he's is still at a pretty low level.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Urena 3-4 Latins MIF who can hit: Barreto x2, Lugo, Guerrero, Urena

Granted he's is still at a pretty low level. You mean you saw him pitch in HS? It has to be since he debuted in 2013 and threw all of 25.2 IP. He's still walking batters, but is showing improvement. His K% is terrific of course which tells you the stuff is there. Long term project, risky project, but as said above, is showing some improvement. By the way, final line: 5IP, 2H, 1ER, 1BB, 9K.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Damn, that's real nice. Showing some flashes. Could it be that player development is improving? Look at Norris, Labourt, Perdomo, maybe Smoral....all LHP's too! LOL, what am I saying, it can't be.
