Caper Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 This is the Blue Jays system and it shows at every level! With Brenden Kalfus, who i think you are talking about, the Jays didn't promote him at the beginning of the season and are hardly playing him this season. Why? He is a proven collegiate hitter/player/team captain and in his first season with Vancouver was a starting All-Star with solid numbers. Now they give him little opportunity with no chance to get into any hitting rhythm at all. I guess vancouver loves the new flavor of the month which may fade in a season. In the MLB, the Jays show NO confidence in many players and this reflects on how they are playing - always having to look over their shoulders and wondering if they will be around tomorrow. Other teams have confidence in their players and put them in a position to succeed which is everything we don't do. This is why we haven't seen a playoff game in over 20 years and counting. The Red Sox, Cardinals and most teams that have been winning give their players confidence and put them in positions to win (from the farm to the MLB). This has to f***ing stop.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Someone posted on twitter earlier today... that Alford responded to a tweet asking him when will he give up football ad concentrate on baseball. He responded "might be sooner the later"..... then deleted the tweet.

Caper Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Lets see if this is the year that we make the playoffs and get to the world series. We are 1 of only 2 teams in all the MLB that hasn't seen a playoff game in over 2 decades. Just us and the Royals. If we continue to do the same thing year after year, why should we expect a different outcome. We have some great players but they aren't elevating those around them. I was talking about Kalfus.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Grayson Huffman: 2 scoreless, 2 K's (debut) Jake Brentz: 4 IP, 3 walks, 3 K's Thomas 2-4 Gudino 1-4
ace3113 Verified Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Dennis speaking about Alford. Says the entire org. is pushing hard to play baseball full time. But it's ultimately his decision. Says the idea of him being in Bluefield this year was to get him out of (the shithole) the GCL, and into organizations like Bluefield and ultimately Lansing so that he can play under the crowds, the lights, basically live the minor league experience (which he wasn't in the GCL). He says his decision to quit football and play baseball full time could come after this next year. He was considered to have a pretty advanced approach at the plate as a high schooler, so he should be at least on par with Davis (who was very raw) now in terms of their hitting.

Obviously, it's a SSS, but his BB% in his limited time has stood out to me given how little he's played. Again, very limited sample size, but it does go with what you say here.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 So Boyd's starting tonight for NH, let's hope he does better than his first stint there. Also, Norris was supposed to pitch yesterday, but the game was rained out and now he's he's not slated to pitch tomorrow or Monday, going to Buffalo? I doubt it, maybe he warmed up before they called the game off and they'll give him a couple days off?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2014 Posted July 5, 2014 Yes! Jesus Tinoco is spinning an absolute gem right now. Huge sleeper prospect. 5IP 3H 1ER (home run off 2nd pitch of game) 1BB 7K Jays FO is focus in Venezuelan pitchers and SS; Puerto Rican catchers; Dominicans MIF and OF
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 How is D. Pompey doing in double A? Do you think he will be promoted again based on the apparent need for an outfielder for the Jays? Pompey is legit, I don't think the Jays rush/burn him (ALA Sanchez)
Caper Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 It would be funny if we could round up 100 bluejays fans to all show up at one of Alford's football games.... Wearing bluejays jerseys of course.
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Sanchez with a decent start, 6 innings, 7 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks (intentioal walk to Sizemore) and 4 so. He gave up 2 homers. 55 strikes to 35 balls

He gave up 2 homers. 55 strikes to 35 balls Decent but not nearly good enough. You have to average at least 1K per inning in AAA and 90 pitches should get you through more than 6 innings. He needs work.

This is a guy who is learning to throw strikes, strikeouts is the least of his worries
Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Matt Boyd 6IP 4H 1ER 0BB 9K Very nice start. Pompey 1-4 Just saw it was on MILB.tv. Might have to watch later, Matt Boyd is interesting. Let us know how good the command is

Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Will do. I saw him pitch in Dunedin early this year, he was on his game. Nobody could hit his curveball - swing and miss after swing and miss. He doesn't light up the radar gun (89-91 MPH) but for a LHP with his deceptive delivery that's suitable. Looks like tonight 6/9 strikeouts were swing/miss, so it's possible he had his curveball working tonight as well. is it a plus pitch?

43211234 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 What's up with Daniel Norris? Not the starter again tonight. TJS and/or career over probably, right?
billjc33 Verified Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Norris isn't scheduled to start in the next 3 games either as per the fishercat website. I don't know if they are using all these rain outs to lower his pitch count but pitching on 10 days rest seems counter productive.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2014 Posted July 6, 2014 Dejong with a decent outing: 5IP, 4H, 1ER, 0BB, 4K, 3GO/1FO.
