GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Where do you think Brenden Kalfus, 2013 draft from college, will play this year? I am thinking Dunedin. THIS POST IS FROM LIKE MAY jesus christ you things are weird
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Hey You! Get back in the Kalfus thread right now! My bad, I let one out of the nest. You need to stop feeding them so they leave the nest to find their own message board.

Sparda Verified Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Welcome to the forum Urenas gonna be a good one Thanks! Yeah, for sure. He might not have the same potential with the bat as Lugo and Barreto, but he definitely has the best glove at this point. He's no slouch with the bat either, even if the projection isn't as good as it is with those two.

I was convinced Barreto was moving off the position too, but Keith Law's comment (something to the effect of "most scouts think he's likely to stick at short") kinda threw me for a loop. Everyone else seems to think it's inevitable (I remember not too long ago Parks threw the chances of him sticking at 5% in a chat), so I'm still leaning that way too, but there's a glimmer of hope for me now. The team is going to give him a chance to stick, at least for this upcoming season.

I saw Urena play a lot and spoke with him on several occasions and he's a natural SS; his bat speed it's not great but...........hard to strike out. I love Deiferson Barreto alot (Aggressive, contact and decent bat speed)

I doubt Barreto sticks. 2B would be nice; it'd be awesome having a legit 2B prospect.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Deiferson is probably the most underrated Jays prospect. Deiferson ISO under .090 is weird lol. I saw him destroying the ball in every hit (right to the OFers gloves) Juan Kelly and Juan Fuente looked good too.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2014 Posted February 17, 2014 Urena, D. Barreto, Castro, Perdomo are getting promoted to USA ball this season Do you know of any other DSL Players being promoted to GCL? Next week I'll go to the Jays complex. I have a little surprise. My younger brother's nephew could receive more than 3 million signing bonus this coming July 2. 16 years old, SS, 165 Lbs, switch hitter, great range-glove but.........avg runner

Lots of hot Latinas here. I don't think it's Lara, he's not a switch hitter. Chris Torres is and so is Welky Garia, but Welks is a Venezuelan.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Phil Bickford and Chris Okey, I believe, are the only two unsigned players on DDL rosters. Okey is on my roster and I'm maxed so he'll have to really bring it to justify the spot.
flafson Verified Member Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Wasn't he suppose to be throwing 97mph?
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Sounds like he might be injured? You don't just lose that much velocity
SpeedyGose Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Question from the KLaw chat: Sheldon (Ottawa) Thoughts on Mitch Nay - seeing him on some top-10 Jays prospect lists. Klaw I don't think he can stay at third base, and in that case, he'll have to exceed projections for his bat to be an above-average regular.

He can't measure a players heart and will to win and ability to adjust.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Must have been a hot gun It's the beginning of the year, it's rare for anyone to be throwing at top speed. In spring training guys are throwing at about 80 per cent capacity then incrementally ramp it up, and in college there basically is no spring training. Also, it's still pretty cold even in Cali, which effects how stretched out guys will be. Beede got rocked a bunch in his first year too. If he's throwing like this in three years I'd be concerned. His first game in his freshman year, not so much.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 Well said Ace I hope that didn't seem like I was putting you on blast. I was just trying to offer up a possible explanation for the discrepancy in velocity. It's hard to emote without the smiley faces online, and I find overuse of smileys can be sorta gay.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 So true. You're quite insightful, considered starting your own blog? Don't encourage it.
switchhitter Verified Member Posted February 20, 2014 Posted February 20, 2014 So true. You're quite insightful, considered starting your own blog? Thank you SpeedyGose. And no, I won't be starting my own blog. I have been following a player, Brenden Kalfus, who was drafted by the Blue Jays in 2013 and looks to be an exceptional hitter. Someone started a thread on him after the June draft called The Official King Kalfus Thread. He won the west coast conference division 1 college batting title along with several other athletic and academic awards and hits from both sides of the plate. I saw that a friend of his is Patrick Wisdom, a 1st rounder for the Cardinals. I don't give Klaw or others like him much credibility when it comes to predicting how great a player is to become. No person can know that. Historically, what matters most is the players will to win, their ability to adjust and their will to work on their weaknesses and make them their strengths. I see both Kalfus and Wisdom as having long careers in the MLB regardless of what Klaw or others think.
