The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I have the luxury (well, not really -- more of a burden) of having a terrible 20th keeper. I'm still trying to see if there's one more pitcher I can add via prospect. I really don't want to have to keep Ryan Dempster. Interested in Juan Nicasio, Josh Beckett, Jeff Locke, Colby Lewis?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 So what is the order of the drafts? Is it cut-down date, waiver, MiLB? Yup. MiLB is in June though.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Interested in Juan Nicasio, Josh Beckett, Jeff Locke, Colby Lewis? More interested in adding a bench bat right now.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Can we post our cuts right here?

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 His K/BB is absolute s***.
torontofan Verified Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 So just to get confirmation on this: After the waiver draft we can add prospects to our MLB roster to open up MiLB roster space for the MiLB draft. As long as we are not over 25 man roster for our MLB team.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 fearthedoc and myself just swapped Marlon Byrd and Ryan Dempster in one of the unsexiest trade in league history.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I got the bench bat I need so I'm pretty much done for offseason activity. I'll post my cuts shortly.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Check out my "Real Life" projections for pitchers: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AiKIdMktKhYNdElkcl9tOC1DY05ZZVN1cDg5c0dKR0E&usp=sharing#gid=2 Nicasio 4.23 ERA, 11 W, 1.41 WHIP, 7.4K/9, 2.16 K/BB Locke 4.06, 7, 1.42, 6.92, 1.71 Beckett 3.85, 5, 1.25, 7.75, 2.89 Rienzo 4.84, 4, 1.46, 6.38, 1.48 Hanson 4.51, 6, 1.41, 7.93, 2.18 I took a quick look at the projections. How do you come up with them? One stat that stood out to me was Estrada's BB/9, seems quite a bit higher then his career rate.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 So are these cuts before cut down day considered final, or can I still go rooting through peoples' dumpsters and it'd just be a hassle for our Darrell overlords if they were already processed? I think this should be allowed. And that the players cut are considered DFA'd. I just chose to cut mine now so the guys weren't totally swamped at the actual cut down. I can't see it being a hassle, the only difference is they have to type the dumpster trash name in instead of cut and past. Feel free to go dumpster diving in my roster... Alex Rodriguez, Andre Rienzo, Colby Lewis, Dustin McGowan, Edward Mujica, Jeff Locke, Josh Beckett, Juan Nicasio, Matt Magill, Tommy Hanson MiLB: Miles Head.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Meh, I guess I don't really have a problem with it, but most of this dumpster trash has been shopped heavily for months for practically anything. Why now, when Yahoo opens in 3 days?

Why now, when Yahoo opens in 3 days? Because some people were gone all winter and ignoring their team/offers, and didn't see the fire sale deals.

Laika Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Official cutdown deadline will be Sunday, February 16th at 11:59 pm. The waiver draft will start on proboards about a week after that. Maybe two weeks depending on people's schedules. (There is no rush for the waiver draft - we have weeks between the cutdown date and the start of the season to get it done, and it will probably only take a few days to complete once we start) So just to get confirmation on this: After the waiver draft we can add prospects to our MLB roster to open up MiLB roster space for the MiLB draft. As long as we are not over 25 man roster for our MLB team. Yeah, you can feel free to add your own prospects as soon as the waiver draft is over. You could even select your own prospect during the waiver draft if you really want to. Although, there's really no benefit in "freeing up" MiLB roster space until we get closer to our June MiLB draft. Remember, we have an official MiLB cutdown deadline before the June draft anyway. Also remember that there are no demotions - if you call someone up and they gets sent down IRL, you only have one NA slot to hide them in. So are these cuts before cut down day considered final, or can I still go rooting through peoples' dumpsters and it'd just be a hassle for our Darrell overlords if they were already processed? All cuts are final. People should only make early cuts if they have no interest in further trying to trade their deadweight. We'll give anyone who has already posted early cuts a day or two to renege, if they want (not that we'll necessarily re-add any names to their rosters on the spreadsheet).
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 If cuts are DFAs and not unconditional releases, then I may as well post what I'm going with. If cuts are not DFAs and are final, then make the below cuts except for Green and Fuentes as I could see someone wanting one of them. Send me a Proboards PM if you want any of my cuts. 2014 BALCO Pharm Team C Joe Mauer 1B Prince Fielder 2B Jason Kipnis 3B Adrian Beltre SS Jed Lowrie CF Andrew McCutchen OF Matt Kemp OF Coco Crisp UTIL Anthony Rizzo BN Chris Carter SP David Price SP Homer Bailey SP Johnny Cueto SP Rick Porcello SP John Lackey SP Erik Johnson SP Danny Duffy SP Burch Smith SP Brett Oberholtzer RP Glen Perkins --------CUTS---------- 2B Grant Green OF Reymond Fuentes SP Paul Maholm SP Kyle McPherson SP Alex White SP Christian Friedrich RP Brian Matusz RP Tim Collins
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I disagree that the waiver draft will only take a couple days. 100 players x 12 hour windows.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 What did the minor league draft take, a week? Maybe it takes a week.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I'm assuming Nate Schierholtz is also cut? Yep. I'm going to keep Green and Fuentes for now; cut Schierholtz and the rest of the listed cuts.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Ok. Who is Reymond Fuentes anyway?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 (edited) Ok. Who is Reymond Fuentes anyway? The third prospect in the Adrian Gonzalez to Boston trade. Former first rounder and a top 20 Padres guy. Leadoff profile. Edited January 28, 2014 by NorthOf49
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 2014 BALCO Pharm Team SP David Price SP Homer Bailey SP Johnny Cueto SP Rick Porcello SP John Lackey SP Erik Johnson SP Danny Duffy SP Burch Smith SP Brett Oberholtzer RP Glen Perkins If you wanna compete in the Turkey Bacon Club Division this year you're gonna have to do something really big with your rotation. You have 3 guys + a load of complete s*** for SP.

You have 3 guys + a load of complete s*** for SP. Lackey and Duffy are far from s***. Erik Johnson is making top 100 prospect lists (for some weird reason).
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Okay, I may have exagerated a little. But they shouldn't be counted on to win a division.
Laika Community Moderator Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Okay, I may have exagerated a little. But they shouldn't be counted on to win a division. When your offense is: C Joe Mauer 1B Prince Fielder 2B Jason Kipnis 3B Adrian Beltre SS Jed Lowrie CF Andrew McCutchen OF Matt Kemp OF Coco Crisp UTIL Anthony Rizzo BN Chris Carter You could probably win a division with 8 middle relievers.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I wouldn't say Duffy is "far" from s***. He's got like a career 5 BB/9 and 36% GB rate. It's hard to be fantasy useful with such an ugly walk rate. Lackey was s*** as recently as 2012. But really though, I think No49's rotation is pretty solid with Price. It would have been better with Darvish than Price, but that is what it is.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Offense wins. Thats a Top 3 offense for sure.
