Now, could you f***ing lose please? lmao, I'm not venturing anywhere near the main forum for at least a week. And no, I will not.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 That's so f***ing nuts. I didn't make an offer for him, but it would have been laughable in hindsight. Yeah like mine. I offered 34th overall before the season started. In hindsight it seems so awful but at the time I actually justified it in my head.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Cruz was entering his age-34 season, leaving a sweet ballpark, coming off a PED suspension, and was having trouble landing a contract. Nobody could have seen this coming.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I am going to be out of the country for the start of the minor league draft, with limited internet access.

Nobody could have seen this coming. Maybe not like this but I was reasonably hoping for .265-.270/33/100.. He was on pace in 110g last year to better that. His main thing has usually been health but DHing will prob help with that. Also a lot of balls get launched in BAL don't they? Thought was Top 5 last year. Could be wrong
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 When will you be back? We can move it. Let's just move it to the deadline. It just makes sense that way anyways. Let's us know which of the draftees signed and gives us a bit of extra minor league data to go on for the non-draftees.

If it was a vote issue, I would vote to move it to the deadline, or at least back a while. It didn't happen to me, but it would really suck to draft a guy and either lose the pick or have to hold the guy till he's redrafted when he goes to college. Real teams have TONS of info about if they are going to be able to sign a guy when they draft him. All we have are rumours.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 We should take it to a vote. What are the options. 1) Draft starts immediately after the MLB rule 4 2) Draft starts X days after the MLB rule 4 3) Draft starts immediately after the rule 4 signing deadline
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 What are the options. 1) Draft starts immediately after the MLB rule 4 2) Draft starts X days after the MLB rule 4 3) Draft starts immediately after the rule 4 signing deadline Since Hurl is away right after the draft we should cross off 1. It should be: a) draft starting a week after the Rule 4 (or when hurl is back) draft starting immediately after the deadline
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 We have ours at signing deadline. That was what I was reffering to when I mentioned the Junior Varsity league.

It should be: a) draft starting a week after the Rule 4 (or when hurl is back) draft starting immediately after the deadline Other than the Hurl factor (which is only an issue this year), delaying a week doesn't give players much info on potential signings. How far from the draft is the signing deadline? Anyone know off hand?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 If anything it should go to a vote. I don't think it should just get changed. I got stuck with Bickford last year.. Does that mean I should get a comp pick this year?

Does that mean I should get a comp pick this year? I want to avoid (or at least lessen the risk) of that happening again... but that was the system last year, so I can't see a comp pick being issued (although I don't make the rules).

How far from the draft is the signing deadline? Anyone know off hand? Around a month and a half. So we'd finish our draft sometime in August.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Around a month and a half. So we'd finish our draft sometime in August. The deadline is July 18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?page=mlb_calendar
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 Obviously if I'm a rebuilding team, I want the draft pushed as far back as possible. The main reason being that with already cramped farms/picks: a) I get more time to see who is legit/who I should be letting go I get more time to make a trade to clear space I like that pushing it back would give more security with your picks. What I don't like is that it will be significantly harder to find gems in our draft. By August, players will have played over 80% of their season. All the midseason rankings will be out, and everyone will have a pretty clear cut value heading into 2015. I like how everything is more ambiguous in June. You get rewarded for doing your research. I don't think that many people got bit by non-signings last year. If you did, you still have the option of holding onto the player. Plus, as someone else mentioned, you can factor signability into your MiLB pick giving it most realism anyway.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 The deadline is July 18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?page=mlb_calendar So not quite a month and a half. We'd still finish up sometime in August though.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 So not quite a month and a half. We'd still finish up sometime in August though. It took 15 days to complete last year, so probably around the first week of August.

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 29, 2014 Posted May 29, 2014 I'm heading to Europe in August - can we get the trade deadline pushed back? (just joking...don't need it pushed back but see the problem?). I'm not being an ass or anything, though I don't think it should change just because Kev is going to Vegas. I was up in Muskoka last year during the draft and had no internet connection whatsoever. We shouldn't change important dates based on somebody's personal schedule. I don't care if we change the date, though then this can happen every time. If we are voting on the date, it's something that should be permanent moving forward. Also, usually when we vote on something, the change takes place the following year.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 29, 2014 Author Posted May 29, 2014 Draft has been moved to tomorrow night in Dingers kitchen. Live attendance is mandatory. No computers allowed. This is Official and Final.

I was up in Muskoka last year during the draft and had no internet connection whatsoever. If it's a matter of a week though, is it really a big deal if the shift isn't interfering with anyone else's schedule? I'm sure if you said something last year, people would have tried to work around it. If we are voting on the date, it's something that should be permanent moving forward. Also, usually when we vote on something, the change takes place the following year. I do agree with you though. It should have a set date every year and any change should be implemented the following year regardless.

I'll get on the phone with Selig.
