P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 18, 2019 Posted February 18, 2019 Would there be any interest in moving the prospect draft to July 2nd or later, so that J2 players can be included?
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 18, 2019 Author Posted February 18, 2019 Would there be any interest in moving the prospect draft to July 2nd or later, so that J2 players can be included? I suppose we could. If we set it to July 8th or whatever it would eliminate the issue of drafting players who don't end up signing, which would probably be the bigger benefit IMO since there is really no problem with J2 players just going as part of our next June draft as they currently do.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I like when the Rule 4 is. We are already very stat scouting heavy...I like that the Rule 4 comes with zero professional experience for a large number of players. Not going to stomp my feet and whine if it moves but I do like it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I think the possibility of drafting guys who may not sign is stupid and I've always thought that. I agree with Laika in that moving the date forward for the J2 signing period more importantly fixes that issue.

Personally I also like the risk of a prospect not signing but if it's suddenly an issue I'd sooner mirror MLB's system than move the date.

Yeah, true. Being stuck with a guy who doesn't sign is very enjoyable and I wouldn't want to change that.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 What if we added a comp pick round to the following draft between the first and second rounds for those players that don't sign? Obviously, the unsigned prospect would have to be dropped in that case.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 If you did this wouldn't there be a comp pick round after each round? No, I meant to say that only first round picks would be protected. I'd be open to protecting second round picks as well, though. Protection beyond that would be overkill.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Or we could just move the draft up a couple of weeks... Is that not easier? It's not like you can glean any information from the tiny samples, if they even play. Plus, to Hurl's point about stat scouting, doesn't this reward the people keeping an eye on the young Latinos in the international market? Unlike the couple of weeks that you'd get from highschool/college draftees, you currently get a full year from the international boys.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I'd vote either keep it as is or move the draft. Comp picks would be tedious

I think BTS has a better team than you do so it would be better for me to swap picks with you but you kind of just inserted yourself as an additional rival. My true archnemesis is BTS

That said, BTS will rely heavily on Acuna and Soto to carry the offence, so if they regress a bit, and Votto's power doesn't come back, the offence might crap out hard. Similar concerns abound for Boxy, whose offence will rely on Bregman continuing to hit like an MVP, as well as a resurgent and healthy Donaldson. Both teams have good high end aces as well as SP depth, but both lack elite relief pitching. Both teams receive failing grades at DH (UTIL) but will have the flexibility to acquire a vetrin bat to plug in there and/or rotate through waiver wire fliers. Edited February 20, 2019 by Dr. Dinger
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 20, 2019 Author Posted February 20, 2019 Hernandez is > Zobrist. Brantley is > Winker. Hendricks is > Happ. Stripling is in the pen I think so that should be a wash. Wash the bullpens too for unpredictability. Folty should only be one level greater than Arrieta.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Brantley is > Winker. Prepare for war.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Matt Barnes is probably going to close for the Sox and gets an insane number of ks. How the f*** is he not elite.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Also: -Yasiel Puig is going to be a monster this year hitting at the top of a good lineup in a tiny park. -Jesse Winker fixed his shoulder and should up his power to go with that .400 OBP - all my relievers are quite good - Paddack is going to contribute this season, maybe even out of spring. - DH will be addressed soon - I'm expecting Matty Olson to improve this season Dinger is dumn

I'm crossing my fingers that McHugh gives me a good season in his return to the rotation though.
