Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 His point (which isn't moot) is that our paper farm should probably work the same way a mechanical one would probably work That's two too many probablies to base a rule change on. The system works great the way it is, I've never been in a league with fewer rule squabbles.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 That's two too many probablies to base a rule change on. The system works great the way it is. What rule change? You're the one who is trying to change the rules. Boxy and I are the ones arguing for the rules the way they are.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 What the hell are you talking about? Commishes do this all the time. It's never been a bone of contention until just now. Then it should be in the rules not to do this. Let's get this closed up.
BTS Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 What the hell are you talking about? Commishes do this all the time. It's never been a bone of contention until just now. I think it's been done like 2-3 times. And only when the team wanted to promote someone because of a trade or cut down and didn't have any moves left. I don't remember it ever being done because a team just didn't want to use an add. Am I completely out to lunch here?

Boxy and I are the ones arguing for the rules the way they are. There's never been a rule saying you can ask a commissioner to add a prospect for you. It's never been done outside a trade, and certainly not during a playoff week.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Nope, you're spot on. I have never been asked to do that, nor would I. I've also never been asked (to my recollection). Unless njh, north, or Boxy is processing a ton of these I have serious doubts that this happens anywhere near as often as KK seems to think it does (or at all).
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I feel we should have a poll on this in the offseason. I'd vote for KK's and Boxy's side. We do already own the player, it's not really an add, more of a transfer. And as for the "What if a commish wasn't available for the move? Should that manager be punished?" argument... There's 9 commishes at the moment for the DDL on Yahoo so finding one to make the add shouldn't be a problem. And if you decide late in the night to make the move, tough luck, should have spoke up earlier.

LOL @ north doing any commish work this year.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 Polls are a waste of time, let's just go with whatever NJH decides.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I don't care either way, so I wouldn't argue a njh decision, but I don't think a poll is unreasonable.

Not everyone has that option, if I'm in Australia and continuing to play it's not quite as simple. It's much easier to just say it counts as a move. Using extra moves to win a stat is too North for me.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 There's also already a handcuffing element in calling up a prospect right now, in that you must keep them on your big league team forever. Why have an extra burden on top of that? I expected Mr. McDonaldshasthebestfries to be unreasonably stubborn but kinda surprised with BTS' stance.

I'm just questioning the assertion that this is something that's ben happening with any kind of regularity.

z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I think it is unreasonable for either side to hold the stance that the opposite opinion is not worthy of consideration and does not have valid points. It's really more of an opinion thing. Nothing game-changing is being decided here.
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 This is a complex web of precedent and policy. I agree that this matter requires the discretion of a Darrell. I'll turn my attention to this as soon as I can and render a clarifying decision.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 I actually don't care either way. I'm just questioning the assertion that this is something that's ben happening with any kind of regularity. I know I've definitely done it myself (have a commish add a player for me because I was at my limit). I'm pretty sure others have as well but I'm not going to mine the thread for those precedents. What I do know is that even if it's mostly done in the context of trades, the context is still just the context not the rationale and the rationale is to not freeze minor league assets or unnecessarily punish players for making call-ups. The fact that this is mostly an issue that arises around trades is circumstantial. Anyways, I think the humour of Hurl's post was lost on me and had made me more upset than the situation warrants. I didn't like the way he waved the threat of Silvergunn leaving (seemed pretty unfair, mostly to him) but I guess he was just ribbing him and trolling us and I fell for it hook, line and sucker. Sometimes I take things too literally and I'm a bit volatile ATM TBH. Ultimately, our Lord and Saviour NJH is entitled to act unilaterally on this and I don't think anyone has a problem with that.
TRM Verified Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 So I completely waffled on the fact you can have a commish add your prospects for you to preserve 1 of your FA adds at 1 am or whatever last night. Is this a live with it scenario or can I get a freebie? I'm fine either way, but it's probably not a bad idea to set a precedent regardless. Bet you didn't realize that you just opened up Pandora's Box here, eh slugger?
TRM Verified Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 This is the thread that gets pulled on which unravels the entire DDL, isn't it?
TRM Verified Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 The ship is sinking, play for yourself.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 yup. No use arguing (fairly heatedly) over a really small issue. I apologize, I didn't read the situation clear enough. I saw this as mostly a non-issue and was just throwing s*** on top as a joke. I didn't take any issue until Boxy made reference to their being a league better (run?) than this one. Although I do think that more jokes should be made about Silvergun leaving the league. No one supported him not leaving more than me, but those that don't have teams to make jokes about should be open to shots when opportunities open up.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 KK calling up Norris... didn't even ask me to add him via commish powers... geeze
Laika Community Moderator Posted September 13, 2016 Author Posted September 13, 2016 Ok, I hired King to dig through the DDL archives and he found my old rule about this situation. Weekly move limits due not apply to prospect promotions. So if you have hit your limit and you want to promote a prospect, or you had previously promoted a prospect that week and you want to make a move, let a commissioner now and they will process it for you. There is no guarantee regarding the time sensitivity of these moves. If you are playing a commish that week, maybe ask one of the other 2 with commish capabilities. Prospect promotion is a fairly rare thing for every team and it really has nothing to do with the weekly transaction limit, which exists to prevent player streaming. Because that ^ is on the record, it HAS to apply to the current situation. This is just such a rare situation that everyone forgot about it. In most weeks (95%+) owners don't even reach 5 adds. It's so rare for a playoff team to have a good, addable prospect during the playoffs that it simply has not come up. The fact that this has arisen exactly once in between that rule being stated (March 31 2014) and now demonstrates that this issue is exceedingly minor. Accordingly, the rule will not be altered because it is not a pressing concern.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 If you're going to make a rule, put it in the Rules section on the Proboard. That is the authoritative source.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 13, 2016 Posted September 13, 2016 someone is going to pay in Dodgeball tonight as Dinger takes out his anger.
