Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Well, he’s 35 and the plausible range of outcomes for him next year are anywhere from recent Joe Mauer to 150 wRC+ monster. I understand why people shied away, but I didn’t expect that offer to be the best one. I tried to land Votto in a package and I'm kind of regretting not putting in more effort. Being said, queue the "I loooove that for x" where x is the person who traded for the better asset. I personally thought it was a pretty decent deal, Heaney isn't anything to sneeze at and spacedog will have him long after Votto Miguel Cabreras.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 I don’t think auctions typically net favourable returns for the seller. We are at the end of the season and there’s fantasy fatigue. I think it's the latter two points that might have made this auction an unfavourable one for NJH, the season just ended and we're too far away from significant offseason moves to gain the amount of interest that a Joey Votto auction could have generated. I think the key to starting an auction is to already have a good deal offered to you as you fallback plan if no one ponies up anything better.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Questionable upside? He's at minimum equivalent to MacKenzie Gore in potential. Don't sell him short. So an Ace? 2. MacKenzie Gore | LHP | A —> If he were pitching in the Yankees, Dodgers or Red Sox system, Gore would probably be a better known name as one of the Top 5 arms in the game. He’s a lefty with the potential for four above-average offerings and he has great size. Command and control both have the potential to be plus. He also receives strong marks for makeup. There is No. 1 starter potential here if he can stay healthy — and the organization has so far been handling him with kids’ gloves.

I'm just not really a fan of Frazier, Heaney is solid but I don't think he's amazing and Votto could still easily be a top 50 player for the next two years. Or he could be a .130 ISO guy going forward with very underwhelming counting stats, basically Lorenzo Cain minus the steals playing first base; I certainly wouldn't peg him for that though.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Cue Nope, people are lining up to say it
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 No way, win % or gtfo E: actually seeds work. I thought you were trying to pull a fast one and you were in TCA's s***** division or something. OK, $50 to the best RS win %. Can I get in on this?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Can I get in on this? No, piss off
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2018 Author Posted October 1, 2018 I suppose I like Clint Frazier more than most people. I think some prospect fatigue has him undervalued right now but it still seems to me that the bat could be pretty solid in the modern MLB where baseballs go very far. Hopefully some playing time opens up for him. I've liked him since his draft year and have probably tried to acquire him a half dozen times.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Lmfao It's not that funny. I figured if you were dumb enough to make the bet with BTS you'd be dumb enough to make it with me.

I am, 100%. You know it's win %, not seeding, right? You can't use winning your s***** division to your advantage.

There are 19 possible opponents and 21 regular season weeks, and don't we play those two extra weeks against division rivals anyway (with the exception of a few teams, since the math doesn't quite work)? So even if you go by Win %, he still gets to play his weak division rivals a bit more, assuming your theory is valid.

Why not juggle the schedule so that the people with the bets play each other a second time as one of the extra 2 weeks?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Adjusting schedules in yahoo is awful.

I had a much better record than TCA this year but I was 6th seed while he was 4th.

My PR Rank was 4th or 5th... my division is insane! Or are your guys vag full of sand? Pussos! I'm giving coin away. Edited October 1, 2018 by Spanky99
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Why don't you guys just do an optional side pot?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 Why don't you guys just do an optional side pot? That's the point no?
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 1, 2018 Posted October 1, 2018 That's the point no? No, it's a 2-person bet at this point with a slew of others asking to get in. Just open it up to anyone.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 Lmfao if you can afford to keep Alex Cobb you probably shouldn't be betting
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 Moving on to Josh Donaldson... not going to auction him but please send me serious offers. I already have a couple.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 My bad for the double PM there spacedog.
