BTS Community Moderator Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 Kole Calhoun is probably up next on my block. It's not sexy, but he plays every day and reliably puts up something like 20/75/75. Decent prospect or SP is the ask.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2017 Posted November 22, 2017 To BTS: milb 23 + waiver 21 To me: Zunino + waiver 32 Surprised you had to pay as high as an MiLB 23 for him but nonetheless I like this (re?)acquisition for you.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Eloy, Fisher and Gonsalves to Spanky for DeGrom.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I like that deal. Fair trade.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Eloy, Fisher and Gonsalves to Spanky for DeGrom. Pleasure buddy. I'm dropping Kaminsky/Ruiz and Almanzar, fellas!

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I love Eloy a lot but kudos to KK for snagging a legit ace on the right side of 30.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2017 Author Posted November 23, 2017 Everyone loves Eloy, I would have traded Arrieta for him straight up probably but it seems like KK did better than that. Maybe? Degrom is a Met

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I am allergic to starting pitchers above the age of 31.5, and Arrieta has lost 2.5 ticks since his banner year. At this point, you won't be getting ace value for him. He's in the Jon Lester range of unsexy vetrin SP2s.

He was about as valuable as Mike Leake and Ivan Nova last year.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Is Lester even an SP2 going into 2018? He was about as valuable as Mike Leake and Ivan Nova last year. He probably just means the tier Lester just exited.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I don't find Arrieta to be a very attractive target right now and since NJH didn't even bother mentioning that he meant straight up for Eloy as opposed to for the whole package, it was a very easy pass.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 Is Lester even an SP2 going into 2018? He was about as valuable as Mike Leake and Ivan Nova last year. Lester was literally dropped during the playoffs by a championship contender, so that pretty much says it all.

It's almost like I didn't receive other players than Eloy?
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 He was limping in! A questionable strategy IMO. Not much point in leaving your best offer in your back pocket. It wouldn't have made a difference in this case but every time I read a "I would have offered" post, my reaction is always "so why didn't you?".
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I mean, I opened with Sean Manaea, so I can't exactly judge.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 I opened with deGrom and Archer, his pick. No need to f*** around.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 yikes Yeah well much to my chagrin, I've got a substantial drop-off after Sale, and I wasn't about to offer him.
BTS Community Moderator Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 That's an interesting question (Archer vs. deGrom). I think I would have picked Archer.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2017 Posted November 23, 2017 That's an interesting question (Archer vs. deGrom). I think I would have picked Archer. Interesting, they're very close. Archer is slightly younger and with a better injury history, but has more mileage. I probably would have leaned Archer, also, like I did when you traded him to me for a late 1st round pick because of a perceived roster crunch.
