The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Really I just wanted him for free. Throwing shade at you worked! Everyone knows the thing to ignore from scouts is defensive reports. He might get a chance in a couple years if he gets traded. Is a fringe prospect really worth holding on through the cutdown next offseason?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Is he being ruined? He has like a 130 wRC+ across AA and AAA. Only 8 homers last year, but he was 22 and in the upper minors. Seems to be on track to be a Martin Prado bat. It's a lot of hollow avrige feasting on minor league fastballs. No beef, no walks, no cat juice, all BABIP and singles. His running game also got shut down by horrible CS %s. I just have a feeling with him that his overly aggressive approach coupled with lack of power is going to get him eaten alive by pitchers with major league command. He also has this weird two strike approach where he crouches way down like Jeff Bagwell and makes himself extra slappy.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I can see how my guide was so inaccurate. I'm not selling Maitan, you can stop bringing him up.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 He's probably on the move this year unless Bryant/Rizzo get hurt. Even if he gets moved, what are the chances that he establishes himself enough to warrant keeping? Probably not very high.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 Even if he gets moved, what are the chances that he establishes himself enough to warrant keeping? Probably not very high. He's already worth keeping for several teams. It's not every season that a player with such a cool name comes along.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Thanks to Jon Lester's complete inability to make a non-pitching throw, Anthony Rizzo is likely going to gain 2B eligibility this season (and therefore carry it for 2018 as well). https://sports.yahoo.com/news/anthony-rizzo-creeping-toward-second-base-eligibility-fantasy-baseball-one-bunt-time-164846732.html

Doesn't make sense to me though. Players don't gain eligibility from the other shifts do they?

Laika Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 Up to 3 games already. Doesn't make sense to me though. Players don't gain eligibility from the other shifts do they? It's because of the MLB rules about gloves. A player is only allowed to wear a 1B glove if they are playing 1B - says so in the rules. Last year the Pirates complained about Rizzo crashing with a 1B glove while Zobrist was manning 1B. Rizzo had an illegal glove, technically. So now Rizzo switches gloves with the 2B on these plays - he is officially playing 2B in the box score. It's technically different from other shifts for that reason.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 At this rate he'll get eligibility before the ASB.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 It would be nice if Yahoo allowed us to customize position eligibility requirements. 5 games started makes sense, but if we could disable 10 games played, then we'd strip out this nonsense.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 At this rate he'll get eligibility before the ASB. And start next year with it. Wonder what/if other teams will adopt this shift?

Do yahoo comishes have the authority to change eligibility? Rizzo getting 2B seems wrong.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Speaking of positional eligibility, Schwarber hasn't started a game at C yet. I thought he was going to get some games there, did that go out the window? It will substantially hurt his dynasty value going forward if he loses it.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 I had no idea there were rules around 1B gloves. I would have assumed you could wear one wherever you damn well pleased. What if a player for some bizzare masochistic reason wants to wear a catcher's mitt in the field? Would that be allowed?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 And start next year with it. Wonder what/if other teams will adopt this shift? It's only because Jon Lester can't be trusted to field a bunt and make a good throw to 1st, there's no reason it should become a widespread problem.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Do yahoo comishes have the authority to change eligibility? Rizzo getting 2B seems wrong. Absolutely not.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Doesn't Dickey's catchers wear somekind of special glove that's more like a 1B glove over a catchers mitt?
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 He's ruining himself. He seems to prefer being a slap-hitter with absolutely zero plate discipline. Thats what some said about Lindor..... Expect the discipline
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Author Posted April 24, 2017 I had no idea there were rules around 1B gloves. I would have assumed you could wear one wherever you damn well pleased. What if a player for some bizzare masochistic reason wants to wear a catcher's mitt in the field? Would that be allowed? No, only the catcher is permitted to wear the catcher's mitt. Only the first baseman can wear the first baseman's glove. Everyone else must fit in the standard fielding glove definition. A pitcher's glove is not allowed to be "distracting" to the hitter. The rules are permissive, not prescriptive - so the C and 1B can wear normal fielding gloves if they want, I think. 3.04 (1.12) Catcher’s Mitt The catcher may wear a leather mitt not more than thirty-eight inches in circumference, nor more than fifteen and one-half inches from top to bottom. Such limits shall include all lacing and any leather band or facing attached to the outer edge of the mitt. The space between the thumb section and the finger section of the mitt shall not exceed six inches at the top of the mitt and four inches at the base of the thumb crotch. The web shall measure not more than seven inches across the top or more than six inches from its top to the base of the thumb crotch. The web may be either a lacing, lacing through leather tunnels, or a center piece of leather which may be an extension of the palm, connected to the mitt with lacing and constructed so that it will not exceed any of the above mentioned measurements. 3.05 (1.13) First Baseman’s Glove The first baseman may wear a leather glove or mitt not more than thirteen inches long from top to bottom and not more than eight inches wide across the palm, measured from the base of the thumb crotch to the outer edge of the mitt. The space between the thumb section and the finger section of the mitt shall not exceed four inches at the top of the mitt and three and one-half inches at the base of the thumb crotch. The mitt shall be constructed so that this space is permanently fixed and cannot be enlarged, extended, widened, or deepened by the use of any materials or process whatsoever. The web of the mitt shall measure not more than five inches from its top to the base of the thumb crotch. The web may be either a lacing, lacing through leather tunnels, or a center piece of leather which may be an extension of the palm connected to the mitt with lacing and constructed so that it will not exceed the above mentioned measurements. The webbing shall not be constructed of wound or wrapped lacing or deepened to make a net type of trap. The glove may be of any weight.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Happy Jason Vargas day everyone! Facing your boy Tim Anderson 4 times should help maintain those sterling numbers.
BTS Community Moderator Posted April 24, 2017 Posted April 24, 2017 Facing your boy Tim Anderson 4 times should help maintain those sterling numbers. Easy 0-4 with a couple of punchouts right there. I expect Vargas to carve that weak lineup up and continue his emergence as an elite ace.
