z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 With OT we did a few MiLB picks. I wonder if we should consider top waiver picks as those can more quickly turn into an impact MLB player. Rolling it around in my head, you could even leave the option with Hurl. Choose where the pick should be (1, 1B, etc) then say its a MLB/MiLB pick to be decided by Hurl as we get closer to drafts. Only issue with that is it leaves uncertainty with teams that have a top pick in terms of if their asset will be #1 or #2 which could affect trading.

You give him options and he can go in whatever direction he thinks is best.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 You can't, really. Even if we give Hurl 3 1st round picks, his franchise is set back years. Just a s***** situation. I'm not sure if I can even speak on the compensation end as I'm hardly objective here (although pretty fair guy). There is one player that could compensate without f***ing up someone else's current plans (we have a lottery so I suppose no one has a plan for first draft pick), that player is Otani. I would suggest #1 waiver the minute Otani is officially annouced (his insistence on coming as a two way player is really going to f*** up things for when he comes...and f*** up fantasy when it does happen) is fair. I'm good with whatever is decided and think we have to look at these in a case by case circumstance. Showing how much more of a community this group is...Fernandez was a forced keeper in my keeper Auction pool (players over a certain value when traded become forced keepers) and the league has ruled that the manager has to keep him which means that person either has to pay twice the value ($33) in real money to get out of the contract, or start next years draft with $16.50 less than everyone else.

Just my two cents, but I think under these rare circumstances, we could make an exception and just award you Otani directly to your minor league team, bypassing the waiver draft system. Even that might not be enough, but it would be a good start, and it avoids having to rearrange other people's draft picks. I would also suggest that we permanently put Otani below your dashed line on the Google Doc, such that he never occupies one of your 12 MiLB spots.

That's probably a cleaner solutions than giving him a waiver pick that only triggers when Otani declares. Only thing to clarify is that he gets called up when he signs so he isn't sitting in limbo (or on his MiLB roster till the next cut-down for some reason)
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Thinking of moving this OS; Justin Turner; Losing 1B next season, and I already have Seager at 3B. Monster second half with more pop than expected. Would love to get a long term option of 1B, but am open to offers Eduardo Nunez; Finally picking it up in SF after slowing down after the trade. Given the last year and a half a .285/.325/.430 slash isn't unreasonable. Combine that with 40 steals out of a SS with a bit of pop, he's actually a decent option. I've got depth at SS so I wouldn't mind moving him. Travis d'Arnaud; Really just looking for a challenge trade at a different position. Disappointing year, but there is upside. Positions wanted; SP, 1B, CF I'm also buying RPs that people can't carry through the deadline. Inquire within.

Cyborg Verified Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 What happens when Otani is great platoon OF and ace pitcher in the MLB? Will he have two instances in Yahoo and you have to own both? If not, how do you start him in batting and pitching? Will you be allowed to have his hitting on his pitching days?

I was thinking about this the other day. I imagine he'll have two instances in yahoo, but it's far from given that his bat will play well enough to make this an issue.

If and when this happens, this is a question for Yahoo! to answer. Wasn't there a reliever recently who moonlighted as an OF?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I doubt he'll ever play the outfield, although pinch hitting could definitely happen. From what I read most teams view him as a pitcher first and foremost.

I dont think its a stretch at all that he would at least be serviceable.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I updated the league history following the conclusion of our 4th season. Congratulations Silvergun for winning the DDL title. And as others have mentioned, congratulations on being the founding member of multiple championship club. Your team looks like the definition of a dynasty with young talent ready to fill in at multiple positions. The Prime Minister's trophy was captured in convincing fashion by Silvergun's London Slayers, his first. Congratulations to our runner up NJH for a great year. Congratulations to our division winners Fearthedoc, NJH, Dr. Dinger, and Silvergun. Boxy has reclaimed his title of Town Bike from KK's clutches. Our collective condolences. Fun DDL records; - We still do not have a multiple DDL runner up - Dinger continues to add on to his 'longest consecutive division title' streak (and looks primed to continue for a year or two). - Four teams have maintained their streak of most consecutive playoff births. Congrats Dinger, Min, NH, and FTD. Who will be the first to drop out of this prestigious club? - Dinger has maintained his position of top winning % for league history. Silvergun and FTD are nipping his heals, but are ~1% back of Dingers mark of 62.5% wins. - Kingkat continues to set the pace in team name changes. Thanks for a great season everyone. I love this league and playing with all you guys. Who would have predicted a dynasty league with a bunch of rando's on the internet would turn into such a strong league. Looking forward to an active and interesting off season. Cheers!
Cyborg Verified Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Ichiro and Aoki never had as high of an OPS in a season as Otani does this year. Otani's 2016 season comps best with Matsui, but obviously the Matsui sample was much larger.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Eight position jump in the standings probably gives me the biggest (though ultimately meaningless) improvement.

I think most teams see him as a potential ace and probably wouldn't want to mess with that but having him try to be a hitter as well. He's probably more Madison Bumgarner than Hideki Matsui.

BTS Community Moderator Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 He leads the JPL in OPS at 21 with tons of power. I dont think its a stretch at all that he would at least be serviceable. I think his bat will really have to be elite for teams to risk running a likely ace out there at bat enough for him to matter in a 20-team league. Most scouty types don't seem to think he's that level of bat.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 I say give him Maitan and Otani as early exceptions and leave everything else the way it is. I like this idea a lot. Would they count as prospects on his farm before they debut (thus becoming "prospects")? I was thinking about this the other day. I imagine he'll have two instances in yahoo, but it's far from given that his bat will play well enough to make this an issue. Nah I could see them having him just as hitter who accrues pitching stats every 5th day or something.

You'd have to think this gives a big advantage to the Dodgers. Er, I mean, the NL. But actually, he'll be a Dodger.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted September 26, 2016 Posted September 26, 2016 Same. Still can't believe we have to go through this. Yeah man, it's f***ing awful. I'm an ******* for making this about myself, but I dunno if I wan't to continue on in FC without Fernandez. I drafted him, owned him through all the ups and downs, TJS, a championship. I built my whole team around him, and I don't see a future for it without him.
