z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 When we started this league, I was in favour of only having players with MLB action in the universe. The random, arbitrary way Yahoo adds players to it's player universe is infuriating. Back when we did the waiver draft, Tyler Goeddel wasn't in the universe so I figured they would wait until his first game. Nope. Just noticed that (insert clever name) added him off waivers on march 11. Good on him but this system is really annoying (and no I wouldn't have used my 1st overall priority on him so it's moot from that perspective but it's just weird and annoying to feel like a player could pop up in waivers at any random time). don't worry, he probably suxxxxx
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 don't worry, he probably suxxxxx He's a seductive kind of suxxxx though. Never really impressive but he steadily improves at every level and he's still only college age. Not hard to see why a s***** team like the Phillies would take a flyer on him.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 if he works hard enough, he too can be Kevin Pillar
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 if he works hard enough, he too can be Kevin Pillar He's making his MLB debut at the age Pillar was drafted
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Smart play by Spanky to claim Andrew Bailey. He's really fortified his bullpen in the past 48 hours or so. I was tempted to make a claim myself but I didn't want to burn the #1 waiver on a yet to be declared Phillies closer. I'm assuming I can burn that on Yasiel Sierra whenever Yahoo! adds him.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I was cursing you and your big yob bringing up players on waivers last night heh. Oh well doubt hed have fallen that far. It was pretty dumb for him to even be on waivers. He pitched a handful of innings in 2015.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 I didn't know Bailey was still in the game.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I didn't know Bailey was still in the game. Favorite to close for the Philies. He was listed as one of the top three most added players in Yahoo! yesterday and is there again today.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Anyone want to trade me an OF I can build around? Dangling Tanaka. Maaaaaybe Ventura.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Anyone want to trade me an OF I can build around? Dangling Tanaka. Maaaaaybe Ventura. Interesting that you word it like that. Tanaka went like 70 spots ahead of Ventura in BORED.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 the maaaaaybe is because I like the age gap there and would probably be less apt to trade him. Not necessarily a reflection of value. and can we not make referencing the BORED draft for valuation a thing?
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 and can we not make referencing the BORED draft for valuation a thing? Luckily that has an expiration date of like 2 months. Once we get some 2016 data, that tool will be out the window.

Bailey has some of the worst mechanics in the game.

I kind of like having it. It's a nice quick and dirty way to see where a player's value lies. Definitely better than any top-500 ranking.

Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Man, I would have no idea how to value Tanaka right now. Partially torn UCL in 2014 Rest chosen over surgery 2015 - misses some time with right forearm and wrist strains October 2015 - offseason elbow surgery for a bone spur ???????

Definitely better than any top-500 ranking. I dunno, I think it's at the point now where it's almost useless. Player values change pretty fast, and any actual draft is full of reaches, fallers, and bad drafters.

I really like him as a pitcher but the injury risk is very disconcerting. Here's the tier he went in for BORED: Darvish Tanaka Stroman Quintana T. Ross Matz S. Gray Pineda Hamels Rodon Smyly Seems about right, but I'd probably take most of those guys (especially Stroman) ahead of him right now because the risk of him losing a year is so high, plus I loathe the Yankees.

As Tanaka owner, I wouldn't trade him for Smyly or Rodon. Possibly not Pineda, Matz, or Ross either.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 As a Rodon owner, I have strongly considered trading him for Tanaka. I would put Pineda and Ross at the bottom of that tier.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 Darvish Stroman Gray Hamels Tanaka? Matz Quintana Ross/Pineda/Rodon/Smyly --> pick your favourite type of warts. Bad mechanics? Past shoulder issues? Walk issues? Recent shoulder issues? I feel like Matz could be ahead of Tanaka, but upside says Tanaka is definitely above the other 5.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 quit analyzing my asset and start offering me good young OF'ers!!!
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 quit analyzing my asset and start offering me good young OF'ers!!! I was considering offering Corey Dickerson but going from Scherzer --> Tanaka made me mindlessly Google how to tie a noose, so I stopped thinking about it.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 quit analyzing my asset and start offering me good young OF'ers!!! I don't have any tho
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Ben Revere can be yours! I'll raise this one Mark Trumbo.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 23, 2016 Author Posted March 23, 2016 I'll raise this one Mark Trumbo. Mark Trumbo, the #68 projected bat by early fall Steamer600 with no positional adjustments. Probably fair.

This is the problem I had. You gotta figure he's heading for TJ surgery one year or another. But what year.
