I went with the Sony C5. I like it so far, and I have 15 days to decide if Wind still sucks.

Also, anyone with Wind? They were awful when I went with them 2 years ago but according to the semi-honest guy at their booth, they've gotten better since. C5 is pretty affordable. They don't have the Z5.

Yeah I had their service before but the unlimited data is something no one else offers. 500 Mb with Bell is like 20 bucks a month. What a joke.

I did the same thing as you two years ago, but I went to Fido since they offered me a really good deal on the device. My issue is always with how expensive data is. You have all these streaming apps now, spotify and Netflix especially and how the f*** are you supposed to use a music streaming service with 1 gig of data?

 

I suggest you look around with the secondary guys (Koodo, fido, Virgin) since they're pretty much all the same. Rogers, Bell and Telus are more expensive for the exact same s***.

 

I'm already having issues getting any kind of mobile data service and this phone keyboard is pissing me off to no end.

Looked at it, with Bell and the Z5, I'd be paying 75/month for 500 Mb and a shifty phone plan, plus 150 for the phone itself.

Damn, not bad. I'm paying 60/month for the same package through telus, but it's a corporate plan through a job I left and I'll need to find a new carrier soon. I've heard bad things about Wind's coverage though.

The entire mobile industry in Canada is such a quagmire... the government made all those new rules to protect consumers but all it's seemed to have done is shift more costs to consumers.

 

Sure, before you had to sign a 3 year contract but it seems like it was easier previously to get a $0 phone and a reasonable data plan. Now you just can't get anything reasonable with the major carriers. You're looking at spending $100+ out of pocket on a 2 year contract for any shiny phone, and then you HAVE to spend $75 to even get the discount on the "superphone". But even then, you probably get 1 GB tops for $75. So you're approaching $100 before you have anything reasonable.

 

It's just not worth wading into. I'll just get hand me down last generation phones on the cheap from people that I know and try to keep my current plan forever.

Yeah they probably really suck in Ottawa. GTA's coverage is OK but this is the last chance they get with me. If I get hit with any coverage cheese in the next two weeks, Wind and I are done forever.

I found koodo and virgin the cheapest here. Koodo has good coverage and I spend time in the the middle of the nowhere

Any one of Virgin, Koodo, or Fido is the way to go. If you NEVER leave the city then go with Wind or one of the other cheaper, big city only, options.
