havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Damn nice pick up on Upton.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Delino DeShields Jr, Rafael Montero, and James Paxton all have a chance to be above average MLB players. They're not 1st tier prospects but I'd say they're all solid 2nd tier. Plus he got a high draft pick. The reigning champion got even stronger. But I still like my return, Bradley could be this years Fernandez. And Teheran was amazing last year if you take out his first 3 starts, and his SOs increased to 9.4/9 in the second half.
TRM Verified Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 yeah i feel the same way. I prefer less prospects but higher quality. I would have demanded aaron sanchez/mark appel as a piece. Now i can package trout + kershaw together to finally covet a deal for zach lee. zach lee zach lee zach lee zach lee!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 But I still like my return, Bradley could be this years Fernandez. Statistically speaking that's incredibly unlikely. I love Bradley and I own him in my other league (where I also own Fernandez), but there are a lot more Bundys than Fernandezes. Just MO, but I think DeShields is a 4th OF type like Gose and Montero and Paxton end up in the pen.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Zach Lee actually took a step forward this year and had a good year. I'd take him on my team anyday.

I like DeShields a lot more at 2B then in the OF.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 DeShields is done at 2B. He is strictly an OF going forward and maybe not even a CF, because Springer is there.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Couple small trades just went down.. Trade #1 To The Cats Ass: Justin Upton, Nick Delmonico, MiLB Pick #63 To z3r0s: Delino DeShields Jr, Rafael Montero, James Paxton, Sean Nolin, MiLB pick #22 Trade #2 To FearTheDoc: Clayton Kershaw To The Cats Ass: Julio Teherán, Archie Bradley, MiLB pick #20 Ew @ that return for Upton. Good chance none of those guys end up being fantasy relevant.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I really think z3r0s should have kept pushing me for Upton. I don't do deals (or anything) quickly but I left my deal with Springer, Lake, Wood and the 10 (asking for the 23 back). I would have added my prospect pitchers (Sims and Graham) easily. The thing is I really don't like Lake, Wood, or Graham all that much. Conversly, I really REALLY like Montero. Time will tell, but I think Upton is going to settle in with an OPS in the low to mid 8's with a 25-30 HR's yearly (with lower and lower SB's). Certainly a nice, asset, but not elite. I could be horribly wrong on that one, but thats what I think at this point.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Delino DeShields Jr, Rafael Montero, and James Paxton all have a chance to be above average MLB players. Part of the reason I like both Rafael and Paxton is they are elevated by playing in great pitching environments for half their starts. As I said in the DDL forum thread, its a trade that could turn out really really bad for me, but I'm confident enough (or I wouldn't have made the trade).
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 It's weird to me that so many people are willing to move a dollar for three quarters, especially when the dollar is in his mid-20s and our league has no salaries. I don't get it either, lol. I get trading Upton, although I wouldn't have necessarily done it for that return. I don't get why anyone would even think of trading Kershaw. Cards on the table, I made a decent late offer for Kershaw that I would have been willing to upgrade significantly if given the chance. I guess I only have myself to blame for not coming in higher.

It could go wrong, but at the same time if a couple of these guys break out you will look like a genius.

Just to satisfy curiosity, would you share what your offer was? If you don't want to disclose that info it's no problem.

As for Kershaw, I like Teheran, so Cats Ass is getting a young No. 1 starter. This deal will depend on what Bradley becomes. If Bradley has a year like Shelby, Fernandez or Teheran did last season, then it's a solid deal all around by getting two young high end starters.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I offered Ryu + Medlen + Archer or Glasnow, but I guess he preferred a younger package.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 I offered Ryu + Medlen + Archer or Glasnow, but I guess he preferred a younger package. That's a damn good package as well. 3 young arms that all have a decent season under their belt.
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 10, 2013 Author Posted November 10, 2013 Just to satisfy curiosity, would you share what your offer was? If you don't want to disclose that info it's no problem. It was Belt + Gallardo/Niese + my first round pick. I also probably would have added Bauer and/or Stroman if pushed on it. I definitely get it if someone doesn't love Belt, but I think I know a few baseball minds that would take him over Teheran in a dynasty league. Especially an OBP league. 1B also seems like a hole for the catspooper.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 There appears to be a very direct line drawn in this pool of who values the upside of the unknown (prospects) and who sees value of the known. I somewhat agree with z3r0s that Upton might settle in to be just slightly above average OF prospect...but that doesn't change that there was a market for him. In the end it's about getting the players you want, he appears to have done this
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 12, 2013 Posted November 12, 2013 Small trade in the DDL; To OppoTaco; Randall Delgado, MiLB Pick #83 To z3r0s; MiLB pick #31
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Hey Daryl overlords, could I get a clarification on the order of operations at the start of the season. I'm facing an MiLB roster crunch but I'm not sure how the process unfolds step by step. When do the following deadlines fall (more what order than exact dates), and is there any time between them for MiLB promotions? - Final Designation of Keeper players - 'Start' of the yahoo season (ie when you can't have more than 12 prospects) - Waiver Draft
Laika Community Moderator Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 The February cut-down date applies to both MLB and MiLB rosters. This is the deadline to cut down to 20 roster players AND 12 prospects. If you were thinking of keeping 20 MLB players and then having a window to promote some prospects before you had to cut your minor league roster down, that would not be possible. You would have to promote those excess prospects into your top 20 MLB dudes at the cutdown. The waiver draft takes place after this happens and after Yahoo opens up. Basically, we assign the 400 keeper players to our 20 league teams, and almost everyone left over in Yahoo's available players list is eligible to be waiver drafted, save for owned prospects and minor leaguers who haven't touched AA. Waiver draft will probably take place in a thread on proboards, like we did our prospect drafts.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I heard the Darrell's use the PB burgers to threaten SpeedyGose on close votes, take away his Epi Pen and see if he votes against you.

jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 Who actually is named Darrel because I know all your real names now
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 It's funny how the trade activity is constantly fluctuating in our league. It will be dead for a week or two, and out of nowhere 5 trades will happen in one day.
