TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Fundraiser? Like a bake sale or something?
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 If we're doing a carwash, I look fantastic in a speedo. ugh you beat me to it. Honestly I'd just run a Football survivor pool and take a cut (announced before hand, I do things on the up and up)
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 For a perennial Cy Young contender every season who's still only 27, I'd expect a package to knock my socks off. You were very close to acquiring Price at the time I must admit, it's just you weren't willing to part with both Pineda and Ventura if I'm not mistaken. I was also throwing Mariano in the deal as well, so it's not like I was giving you just Price alone - you were getting an elite top 5 closer this season as well. I'm sure if Price was healthy and pitching like he is now, a deal similar to what we had discussed likely would have happened. It was just bad timing with Price on the DL. Yep, that was the deal. I think it was a reasonable ask on your part, but in the end I preferred to acquire Shields and hold Buxton.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I've noticed that about Gibbers. You'll know within a single e-mail or two if you'll be able to make a deal. He's very straightforward and sticks to his word. I appreciate the way he deals. I find Gibbers tough to deal with, my own personal opinion. I don't think I've ever made a trade with him in fantasy baseball, and we've both been in the Fantasy Challenge league since 2009. I think I traded him a No. 1 waiver priority back in the first year of FC since he wanted to claim Kris Medlen at the time, and he gave me back a first round pick like around 17 or 18th, and I believe I drafted Shelby Miller with that pick back in 2009. We've come close on some other deals in the past, but nothing has ever happened. I know he places a great value on a players age, which you should in dynasty though he really does lol. He's pretty particular and specific on the guys he likes. We've never had any arguments or disputes in talks so I don't mean he's tough to deal with in that way. Mostly talks only last 1-2 e-mails like you said, though he's tough to please I find haha.

The flip side of that is you trade rape guys when you do make a deal, hence your stacked FC team. I probably won't make many deals with you, but I respect your hustle.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I think with Gibbers, either you have what he wants or you dont. He loves shortstops, catchers, and guys who are young for their level, and he's always looking to sell high on veterans before they hit 30. That's his MO, and if you can fit into that framework you can strike a deal with him. Strangely though, he just traded Frazier (who he took 1st ovr) for Kendrys in FC.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Weird. This is my first dynasty league with him, and we've made three trades, all really smooth, two of them pretty significant. Every manager deals with some managers better than others. In the FC league, there are managers who I have excellent trading relations with and we always find it easy to reach a deal, while some others are a bit tougher or I don't even bother dealing with 1 or 2 at all since I know talks will stall and go nowhere. Me and Gibbers came close on some deals, really close though they never fell through. I know in the first year of FC I was close to acquiring Braun from him - offered him Bumgarner, Ian Stewart and a 1st and 2nd round pick and there were some other deals we discussed during the offseason as well even a three-team trade at one point. I never had any problems with trade talks with him, they've been fun, though challenging at the same time which makes it great for fantasy baseball!
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 There is one guy in FC who I completely broke off communications with and told never to message me again. It's the first time I've ever done that, but he's a complete waste of time and a miserable piece of s*** to negotiate with.
torontofan Verified Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 If anyone is still looking for SP I've had Sabathia on my trade block since the start of the year. Also I am looking to add a closer for a pick.

I find you the same way as well Though discussions are always fun and enjoyable. I remember having talks with you on Matt Holliday last year and you wanted Shelby, Jennings, Mesoraco and someone else if I wasn't mistaken. And I'm looking to rape teams in trades haha? To be honest, most of the trades I've made have been very good for both sides. I've made some deals that I do regret - such as moving Cespedes for Bud Norris + a 2nd rounder (though flipped Norris for Zobrist shortly after); trading a 2nd rounder + Patrick Corbin (who I picked off waivers) last June for Derek Jeter - though I doubt me and that other manager thought Corbin would be pitching like this; also I traded Bumgarner, Asdrubal Cabrera and John Ely back in 2010 for Roy Halladay - it helped me win that season, though right now obviously I regret that. I acquired Matt Kemp by trading Prince Fielder back at the trade deadline in 2010, and that was when Kemp was struggling; I acquired Stanton when he was a prospect still, though traded away a hefty package of solid vets like Chris Carpenter, Tim Hudson, along with some solid prospects like Logan Morrison (who at the time was a highly ranked prospect as every scout loved him), Hank Conger etc since that team wouldn't move Grady Sizemore if I recall. I bought on Justin Upton when his value was at its lowest, though that's buying at the right time. Most of my pitching like Felix Hernandez, Gio Gonzalez, Shelby Miller, Julio Teheran and Tulo are all home grown talent, either drafted in the original player draft in 2009 or amateur drafts. Also, most of my BP arms like Jansen, Melancon, Cook, Brothers etc. have been from FA pickups. So I wouldn't completely say I raped every trade I made, since most deals have worked out for both sides and I still have core pieces from the original 2009 draft and from the June drafts.

I remember having talks with you on Matt Holliday last year and you wanted Shelby, Jennings, Mesoraco and someone else if I wasn't mistaken. And I'm looking to rape teams in trades haha? Lol, you got me there. But in fairness, your OF at the time was Justin Upton, Jennings, Stanton, and Braun (and Kemp?), so I felt it was my duty to the league to take a chunk out of your roster. I tried to buy-low on Shelby (always loved him). In the end, I got Goldschmidt and Gausman for Holliday, so I pretty much got the package I wanted -- just not from you.

Strangely though, he just traded Frazier (who he took 1st ovr) for Kendrys in FC. +1 He loves up the middle guys and prospects who are advanced for their level/competition. He doesn't like anyone in their late 20's as he looks to sell off those pieces. He has a very solid team in FC - would love to see him go for it since he'd be a dangerous team in the playoffs.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 And I think I also traded Corbin for a mid-round pick in FC, to Gibbers if I'm not mistaken. Never saw a year like this coming from him, and while I still think it's a career year, it hurts me on the inside.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 There is one guy in FC who I completely broke off communications with and told never to message me again. It's the first time I've ever done that, but he's a complete waste of time and a miserable piece of s*** to negotiate with. There really isn't anyone I broke off communications with, though there is one manager I tend to keep my distance from when it comes to proposing deals, or in trade talks due to coming across as arrogant and for reasons you listed. I have had some heated discussions with one or two managers in the past though it never got to that point of breaking off communications, especially since I've made deals with them this past year and still have ongoing e-mails/discussions regarding trades.

Never saw a year like this coming from him, and while I still think it's a career year, it hurts me on the inside. It would be interesting to look back on all the trades made throughout the years in the league. I know the one's in the offseason are posted on the ProBoards sites, not sure about the one's in the regular season. Even some trades from the earlier years would be fun to see as well.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 If a contending team needs pitching, they are welcome to send a offer for beachy. Not interested in a 2 for 1 deal though
TheHurl Site Manager Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I like trading with Gibbers and Dinger. Gibbers comes to you with an offer and doesn't change it much he'll say something like "would you do this for this". Dinger doesn't BS when dealing he'll say I want this guy (I've mostly dealt in picks with him admittedly). I find this league easier to make deals in than FC (where I almost never propose deals) mostly cause I have an idea of who likes who in this pool. I know not to offer BTS a big xFIP guy and I know certain guys aren't going to overvalue picks. Jaysblue sometimes is difficult and other times he comes with a deal very close and it just takes some tweaking to get the deal done. He does things by text with me which works sometimes and others it doesn't. I don't like to make deals when I'm away from my computer (Santos got Mujica from me this way and I've stopped dealing with him because of it.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Probably a fair statement. I definitely intended to strike early before the market developed. My lack of familiarity with dynasty leagues bit me in the ass there. Oddly enough, I think I'll be most at peace with the Holliday/Kuroda deal in a couple years because Correa is looking like he's gonna be a monster and that was the trade I felt worst about in regards to the return. If I could go back in time, I'd definitely not have valued high picks as much as I did.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I don't even think Matt Wieters is an above average fantasy C. I told Gibbers that at the time and I stand by it. I offered Buxton+ for Harvey for the record. Jesus.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 If we are doing rankings, my favourite people to deal with are Fearthedoc, Min, and Dingleberry. So far the only two guys I dislike dealing with are Jaysblue and zeroes.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I'm still looking to move some holds for a pick upgrade. If someone has a high second that they would move for a low second + 15-20 hold reliever, I would be interested.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 I'm looking to move Tommy Hunter (holds machine with SP eligibility) with two picks, or a pick and a prospect for a high pick. Beastly Bruce is also available if you are looking for dominant pitching.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I can deal with anyone but I get frustrated when the other owner keeps lobbying for his offer rather than developing a different one. It doesn't mean the deal won't get done eventually but it makes the process irritating.
TRM Verified Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 I've really enjoyed trading with Silvergun. Me and him have really good, constructive and civil negotiations ever time.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted August 13, 2013 Posted August 13, 2013 So far the only two guys I dislike dealing with are Jaysblue and zeroes. well I'm hurt... Well... not that hurt. I can see how it would be frustrating. I'm not a quick mover when it comes to trades and I don't generally budge from what I feel someones value is. That and I've been uber busy this summer and probably just forget to respond to some peoples offers.
