The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 IMO Gryffindor is way too high (only really like Bryant) That's the only one that really jumps out to me. I'd have his farm ranked a little lower, actually I'd swap Gryffindors and z3r0s on the list. I also surprised and really like the fact that mine is at the top of the list, I knew it was good, but didn't know it was that good. I guess Puig really helps out. I should be set up good for the next few years with some of my prospects teamed up with my players who will be on the right side of 30 for atleast a couple more years: Kershaw, Buchholz, Harrison, Skaggs, Rizzo, Rosario, Carlos Gomez, Leonys Martin, Lawrie, Everth Cabrera.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I like my group but 4th is probably to high. If I hadnt promoted my 2nd and third round picks though, its probably a top 5 farm
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Anybody want Denard Span for a 5th rounder?
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Anybody want Denard Span for a 5th rounder? I pretty much already have a slightly worse Denard Span in Drew Stubbs. Just noticed they have the same initials too.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Then you can platoon him with your other 2nd division CF!
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I pretty much already have a slightly worse Denard Span in Drew Stubbs. Just noticed they have the same initials too. I have the top model available in Shane Victorino. And his initials add up to more points in Scrabble.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I have the top model available in Shane Victorino. And his initials add up to more points in Scrabble. I hear you can get Brett Gardner for a 2nd. What's the price tag on Victorino?
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I hear you can get Brett Gardner for a 2nd. What's the price tag on Victorino? Why wouldnt people pay that who didnt have a 4th outfielder. Me thinks people are overvaluing 2nd round and beyond picks.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Surely someone can offer something for Chris Perez. He's not great but he has a relatively secure hold on the closing job for a decent team.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Why wouldnt people pay that who didnt have a 4th outfielder. Me thinks people are overvaluing 2nd round and beyond picks. It will be interesting. Some June draft picks fetched a lot and that was immediately following the initial MiLB draft. By next June, there may be a lot of unowned prospects that make an impact. I agree that a lot of these picks are overrated in value though.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 a lot of interesting trade talk going on...so lets here the opinion about Sil and I's Myers for Santana trade
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 a lot of interesting trade talk going on...so lets here the opinion about Sil and I's Myers for Santana trade I like your end but it's a fair deal that makes sense for both sides. Santana is a stud and good catchers are hard to find. I'll always take the side that has the proven stud. I'm also coming around on the idea that in a three-OF format the replacement level at outfield is pretty high -- everyone seems to have a solid outfielder or two sitting on their bench. Myers is a great prospect and has looked good but he needs to reach that 35 HR ceiling for this trade to work out. I do think Myers can reach that and has a chance to be special, which is why I say it's fair.
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 It's a solid trade; no clear winner. I personally like the Santana side because quality catchers are scarce in a 20 team league and Santana is a proven .800+ OPS bat. Myers has a ton of potential but I feel he has to hit a great deal of that potential just to make it an even trade. It makes sense for Sil though because he also has d'Arnaud coming up soon (if I remember correctly). Overall both sides should be happy with the players they received. Edit: Now send me some damn Chris Perez offers!
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think its a good deal for both sides. I dangled around Santana's name for a while and I wasn't that intrigued by the offers I was getting to be honest. Baffled my mind. Catchers are tough to find. I do have V-Mart right now who's starting to turn it around and hopefully d'Arnaud turns out to be solid. As for Santana, he's a solid offensive catcher, though I'm not sure he ever becomes a .900 + OPS bat like a Buster Posey. Still Kev gets a huge upgrade at catcher and definitely this gives him a nice push towards the playoffs. I needed a young outfielder and I'm hoping Myers is a guy that I can build my franchise around. I was looking for a top 5 prospect who was ready to step in and Myers fits the bill.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Anyone looking for some OF depth - Alfonso Soriano, Seth Smith are available. Would be looking at draft picks for next season or a similar veteran pitcher of value. Also, Tommy Hanson can be had for a 2014 pick as well.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I still can't believe Boxy was rebuilding two months into a dynasty league. To be fair, this has been the most fun I've ever had in a fantasy baseball league. Morrow is oft injured and declining, doesn't fit in my timeline.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 Farm Rankings: Through these together quickly at work, and by no means am I a prospect buff, so I could be well off. Just thought it would be an interesting discussion to get started, and I know njh mentioned back on the old board doing something like this ultimately. Also, given my team has the worst spects, I figured I wouldn't offend anyone too too badly, given I am not being a homer putting myself ahead of anyone else. Anyway, feel free to discuss. I will change them if convinced through thoroughly constructed arguments. (I fully expect to make a number of changes. You are basically seeing my rough draft) 1. TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I think my farm without Myers is right down at the bottom now.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 a lot of interesting trade talk going on...so lets here the opinion about Sil and I's Myers for Santana trade It all hinges on how Myers turns out. He'll need to cut down on his strikeouts and try to walk more. And you better hope they keep Santana at C for the foreseeable future. As of right now I like your side of the deal more.

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 5, 2013 Author Posted July 5, 2013 Kev got the safer end of the deal, but Sil got the upside. I'm not the biggest fan of William Bradford Myers though.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I like Kevin's end a lot more. Not a big fan of Myers, sorry if my half assed offer was insulting.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 It's funny, one manager used that same exact excuse about Santana, worrying about his catcher eligibility in 2015 or 2016 and was using that to downplay his value. It was just ridiculous. I think the players he offered were pretty laughable as well. Don't know who it was, but wow was he looking way too much into the future. You can say that about any player then haha.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I like Kevin's end a lot more. Not a big fan of Myers, sorry if my half assed offer was insulting. I never got anything that blew me away. Spanky offered me something good, though I would have been getting a player entering his mid-30s, where I was looking for a potential top young guy in his 20's. I think to be honest, I was getting better offers on Jonathan Singleton in terms of value than Carlos Santana haha.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I''m waiting to hear back from Got Head for Miles on a deal, which would open up a roster spot on my team and/or on my farm as well. Thought we had a deal done when he asked for a certain prospect, but suddenly the price tag went up within the last three hours. If not, I'll likely drop Blanco haha from my MLB roster and callup Myers. Sorry for the delay.

Just because I mentioned a players name a week ago doesn't mean I was proposing a straight up deal for him.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I sent you a counter which was very fair and not much of a difference between the other idea you proposed.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I sent you a counter which was very fair and not much of a difference between the other idea you proposed. If you don't clear roster space by midnight then Myers becomes a free agent. You are exploiting a loophole.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted July 5, 2013 Posted July 5, 2013 I sent you a counter which was very fair and not much of a difference between the other idea you proposed. Lol wow, you are by far the most annoying person to trade with I've ever encountered.
