The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I'm looking to trade Carlos Marmol for any pick/pick upgrade I can get from him. He's a reliever that'll rack you up K's and provide Holds and/or Saves.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 K-Rod? Marmol? Seriously? Enough f***ing around - Mariano Rivera is on the block now and is lightyears better than those two relievers. Send in the offers! - Triple Hawpe Brewed
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 This is Rivera's last year. No value at all.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Nice deal both ways fellas! I don't know what to think of the deal. I like Wieters and all though I doubt he becomes the monster in fantasy baseball that we all expected a couple of years ago. He's still young and offensively catchers are a thin position in fantasy baseball. Harvey has been amazing thus far, though can he keep up pitching at this high of a level for the remainder of the season? And will he always be a Top 10 starter off the board in every draft moving forward? I don't know...it's a tough deal to completely analyze at this time - will have to judge it better 2-3 years down the road, especially if that first rounder Chris takes turns out to be a stud who's close to the Majors.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 This is Rivera's last year. No value at all. No value is still better than the negative value Marmol will give you
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 This is Rivera's last year. No value at all. Are you serious judging long term value of relievers here? Sure if we are talking about a Kimbrel, Jansen, Romo, Chapman etc. Though your talking about two washed up scrubs in K-Rod and Marmol, who have little value at all. I could easily go out and pick up a reliever for Holds off the waiver wire who can post up solid peripherals. Even though this is Mariano's last season, he still has far more value than Marmol and K-Rod combined lol. Like I said gents, don't waste your time with Marmol and K-Rod. Rivera is on the block. Send in the offers.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 No value is still better than the negative value Marmol will give you Marmol is an absolute liability. I wouldn't even take a flier on him on waivers.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I was going to make fun of K-Rod and Marmol, but didn't want to perpetuate my reputation. Glad others stepped in. If anyone wants holds Scott Downs, Tony Watson, Brandon Klintzer, Paco Rodriguez, Dane De La Rosa and others have all been really good and are free agents. With Cueto coming back, I'm looking to deal a starter. Paul Maholm and Jorge De La Rosa are very much available, and my other guys (Parker and Bailey) could be had if I were to receive a solid bat in return. +1 I'd rather pick up Paco Rodriguez rather than trade for Marmol or K-Rod right now. As we speak, Marmol has just been dropped. Oh man making a waiver claim. What a steal! An hour ago he costed a draft pick, now you could have him for free!
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 I just don't get why anyone would feel compelled to trade Matt Harvey right now. Just... why?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 I just don't get why anyone would feel compelled to trade Matt Harvey right now. Just... why? While I feel that my offer was pretty weak (just wanted to preface so it doesn't look like I'm whining, our teams are kind of going the same way) I really didn't understand this trade at all. I mean, you're rebuilding and you have a cornerstone to build around, and you deal him for an OK guy who plays a redundant position and a pick who probably will never carry anywhere near Harvey's value. Only thing I can possibly think is that Gibbers feels like he is selling Harvey at his highest value before he crashes down to Earth, but I don't see much evidence of that.

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 To Kats: Ellsbury + Delgado + pick 120 + pick 58 To NJH Scherzer + Bradley + pick 75 Really like this deal for Nick...a lot.
torontofan Verified Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Same, but I am probably a little biased because I hate Delgado.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Me too, but I feel the hate is justified. Also don't like Ellsbury. The picks don't balance it out for me either.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 I dunno, Ellsbury is practically leading the league in steals, which of course is the most silly and scarce fantasy commodity. As strike out-y as Scherzer is, he's still an arm and this is a dynasty league. I had Ellsbury like 40 spots higher on my pre-season rankings. Jackie Bradley Jr. might be one of those "better in real life" players. He has a strong defensive profile in CF and he can walk for days, but he leaves quite a bit to be desired in terms of peripheral skills. Was also brutal during his cup of coffee. Delgado has had solid/good peripherals in every other season, and he's not far removed from being considered a top ~40 prospect with #2/3 upside.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 If you're going to violate a man's anoos, at least give him the reach-around. Nick is a gentleman. I see your point.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I figured I would get killed for this deal but I also felt I needed to cash in Scherzer sooner rather than later. In an ideal world, I would have packaged him in a deal for an elite asset but that wasn't in the cards. Even though I feel like NJH was cheap with the compensation picks, he came close enough to Scherzer's on-paper value for me to pull the trigger. The second part of this deal is that I'm gambling on Jose Fernandez to mitigate the impact on my major league roster.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Jose Fernandez is a great keeper piece, but it's virtually a lock that he'll be shut down before the fantasy playoffs.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Jose Fernandez is a great keeper piece, but it's virtually a lock that he'll be shut down before the fantasy playoffs. At this point, the Jurassic Kats need to worry about making the playoffs more than anything.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Trading your best pitcher is a tough way to accomplish that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 I think you guys are just biased. NJH fanboys.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 I'm just jealous that you snaked an SP in his prime who's clipping along at 11 K/9. I hope his shoulder turns into pulled pork.

Laika Community Moderator Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 Geez, he was on my trading block for weeks. NJH was the first to make a credible offer. I don't really get it either. If Scherzer is such a good "get" than how come nobody else was buzzing on him? He racks up the K's, but he can also be a bit of a gas can from time to time, he's a volatile arm, and he looks like a guy who will always be a bit worse than his FIP. There are specific reasons than other people weren't jumping to buy him. Like I said, I had Ellsbury 43 spots higher on my preseason rankings.

I inquired about him a few times, I was willing to offer prospects and picks (a lot better than the 50 whatever) but Kat never responded to me so I figured he wasn't interested in anything I had to offer.

The yahoo messages are kinda buggy, I just got Gibbers email last night they he was trying to move Harvey.
