Oh come on now, I'm actually an optimist with the Maple Leafs. I wouldn't have them in my top four or five favorites to win the cup, but they're in that second tier. If the goaltending stays healthy, they have a shot.

I'd bet Jets over everybody except Edmonton right now. Even betting Edmonton over them is irrational but I just have that much faith in McDavid.

 

I might put Vegas ahead of them also, they play a proven playoff style.

That's what my point was, these guys are really good, like stacked, with the best goalie in the world.

Leafs are a top 6 team, goaltending health is certainly the priority, health in general heading into April.

I'm more confident about the goaltending than I've ever been with the current core. Lack of offence from the defence, particularly a RH shooting offensive defencemen has been an ongoing deficiency for them. Especially in the postseason, shots from the point that get through are vital. They still need to address that.

Defense continues to be a concern for this team. Offensively in particular but even defensively I'm not sure they're much better. If not for their goaltending they would be a less entertaining version of the team they've been before. If only this team had a true number one defenseman, it would really make them a top tier contender. As it stands now they're in the second tier with a lot of teams, they need everything to fall their way and some brilliant goaltending.
