Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 And win... Don't even care. Irrelevant game
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Don't even care. Irrelevant game Okay... I'll roll with them getting Home Ice over everyone but the Canes and Bruins, but that's just me.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Why isn't the NHL season over already? It's crazy that we're already in the middle of April and the Playoffs haven't even started yet. No wonder why the Stanley Cup is always played at the end of June.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Not meant to be Marner. Lol. 4 stabs at it.
Horses Fart Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Bring on the TB Lightning. Let’s frikin go Leafs!!!

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Last I saw Jersey was losing 4-1, and I see they won in OT, ah well. Great year by the Buds, onward and upward...

They need the regular season over by like mid-March IMO
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 I agree with this. They need the regular season over by like mid-March IMO Yeah I don't get it. They start the NHL season even earlier than the NBA season and the NBA Finals are usually finished before the Stanley Cup. NHL season and Playoffs just drag on for too long IMO. Start the regular season end of September/first day of October and have the regular season end March 31st. Playoffs should have started already first week of April. If NHL Playoffs start first day of April, we probably would be wrapping up R1 right about now this weekend. Can't believe yesterday I was watching the Leafs/Rangers still play a regular season game in the middle of April.

If I'm not mistaken ever team gets a rest period built into their schedule where they won't have a game for like a week and a half. I'm pretty sure they've tried to spread the schedule out a bit more as well (less 3 game in 4 nights). They've just stretched the season out a bit more.

I recall there being a lot of back-to-back games for the Leafs and other teams this season. I understand hockey is more physical than lets say basketball, so I do understand the rest period if it's built into the schedule. Maybe start the season a bit earlier, but already the NHL offseason is very short especially for teams who go on a deep playoff run.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Pittsburgh just fired pretty much everyone except the zamboni driver. https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/penguins-fire-president-of-hockey-operations-brian-burke-gm-ron-hextall-1.1945796 The Pittsburgh Penguins fired general manager Ron Hextall, director of hockey operations Brian Burke and assistant general manager Chris Pryor on Friday after the club failed to reach the playoffs for the first time in 17 years. President, GM and Assistant GM... buh bye!

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 If the Leafs don't make it out of the first round, I think you'll see a bit of a shakeup as well. It's such a weird situation with the Leafs. For Pittsburgh, they missed the playoffs. That's an easy line in the sand to draw. Leafs have had, what, the 4th best record in the league for a couple of season in a row now? Clearly, they're doing something right...very right. How much do you want to screw around with that? Yes...playoff success is ultimately what everyone is looking for, but there's a chance you go backwards. I mean, if you look at the moves that the Leafs have made during Dubas's tenure, the majority of them have worked out. Here's hoping we don't even have to have this conversation this summer.

Yeah same here, I hope the Leafs could at least make R2 or the Conference Finals. Would be a great thing for their team and the excitement in the city would be huge. NHL Playoffs and the NHL regular season are both different IMO. The NHL Playoffs are definitely more physical, more hits, and defense/goaltending play a huge role in a series. With the talent the Leafs have, they shouldn't be exiting R1 for how many years in a row now. If they have another R1 exit these Playoffs, you have to start asking serious questions whether or not this group can ever win a Stanley Cup, which is the goal. Leafs won't completely blow everything up, but I think some fundamental changes would have to be made. Not sure if this is a good example, but look at the Raptors leading up to 2019 during the DeRozan/Lowry years. They always were successful during the regular season, but during the Playoffs they weren't a strong team and could never get over that hump. They traded DeRozan for Kawhi and we know what happened that season. The Raps did get lucky in the NBA Playoffs that season with Kawhi's winning shot and by playing a Golden State team in the NBA Finals without Kevin Durant, but still. After a couple years with DeRozan and not having success in the Playoffs, they made some fundamental changes to their roster and coaching staff.

You left out the part about the NHL playoffs where the refs allow you to basically tackle people without penalty calls. It's like a completely different set of rules in the postseason.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 NHL Playoffs start next week? WTF?! I was looking forward to Saturday Night games tomorrow! And there are still 2 regular season games being played tonight! Geez this is such a joke! At this pace, the Stanley Cup will played in July!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Went to the Oiliers regular season finale last night Team has a legit chance to win the West Ended the season with 9 straight wins 3 players with > 100 points Legit goalie Just don't know if anyone will be at Boston this year

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 It's a complete joke. NHL Playoffs need to start at the beginning of April. It's ridiculous that the Playoffs start past the halfway point of April. They drag on the season for too damn long.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 That's an incorrect bracket, bro. Bruins are playing the Panthers and Canes are playing the Islanders.
