Leafs needed Matthews or Marner to be that guy last night, and they weren't.

 

I watched the game from early in the 2nd on. Matthews and Marner were completely invisible. I don't understand how two guys with that much skill even manage to fade into the background in the second half of a close game 7.

The Leafs need a legitimate threat on the point for the PP. Rielly has no shot, so all the opposition has to do is collapse down low in front of the net and the powerplay becomes ineffective. No adjustments were made, and it cost them in this series.

I have a rather unruly young child. I know, I'm the old Dad. My brother has flames season tickets lower bowl 5 rows up in the attacking end. Now how am I going to convince my wife I'm going drive to Calgary and go to the game on Friday.

You could probably count on one hand the all-time goalie performances better than this one by Oettinger. Hooooly f***.

 

They mentioned in the post game breakdown that the Flames outshot the Stars by over 140 shots for the series, just insane goaltending performance, took a perfect snipe to finally beat him in overtime.

The upcoming battle of Alberta is causing them to show a lot of old hockey highlights from the 80's and 90's and my god was the hockey ever terrible back then. I can see why fighting had to be a major part of the sport. The talent level and speed is awful and is only topped by how s***** the goaltending was. 200 points by Wayne back in the day looks like the equivalent of 80 points in 2022.
