There are only two ways the conversation goes after the game tonight...

If Campbell plays poorly, what do the Leafs do?

If Campbell plays well, what do the Leafs do?

Freddie's been hurt. He's a top 10 goalie when healthy. The goal is to give him enough games off to be healthy by playoffs.

He isn't. Any metric you look at will tell you he's been below average over the past 2 seasons now. He provides flashes of great play for a couple of weeks here and there and people refuse to look at the whole body of work.

I won't try to convince you. I've learned that die hard Freddie supporters can't be convinced. He is gone after this season is done. That you can bank on.

You're counting last season and this current year, right? Prior to last season he was perfectly fine. He did say he's been playing hurt, who knows. And also, you can also bank on not trading him anywhere, no one wants a struggling goalie as a rental, their better off keeping him.

Injury or not (I lean towards not...and least not beyond the one he's currently dealing with). 2 years is too long to hang on to a goalie that isn't getting it done. Need reliability and consistency in net or you're going nowhere in this league.

He's a UFA...No need to trade him.

He may very well take a vacation to Robidas island. It's already been announced that he likely won't be available later on this week anyway due to his injury. These injuries can conveniently turn more serious overnight if it suits the club. Not saying it will happen...but we've seen stuff like this happen before. Just look at TBay. You honestly think it's just coincidence that Kucherov will be ready just in time for the playoffs? Expect anything.

So you're recommending tinfoil beanies?

I still don’t understand what people think is going in with the Kucherov situation. The absolute worst case scenario seems to be that they hold him out a couple of games if he’s ready a week early or whatever.

It's not a big deal, the guy's legit injured these theories are laughable.

You mentioned trading him here, just on further thought, it isn't going to happen.

The question was whether we'd be looking for a goalie (which I would), not whether we thought Freddie would be moved (which I don't see happening). He's more valuable hif they can find a way to stash him on LTIR. Opens up lots of cap space for deadline moves. I don't see that happening though...just wish it would.

If the playoffs started next week I guarantee you Kucherov would be playing next week. I don't for a second believe that the Bolts aren't milking his injury due to cap reasons. Can't prove it...but it's too convenient.

Why would he agree to this?

Because he's making his money regardless and under contract for multiple seasons...and it gives the team a better chance to succeed in the playoffs. Again... It can never be proven (unless someone talks), but it's too big a coincidence to not be suspicious.

I don't think it's really a big coincidence. It happens all the time in baseball, and there's no cap: player delays surgery to try rehab, rehab fails, player ends up getting surgery months later and missing more time than they would have if they had opted for the surgery immediately.

I think the timing lining up in a way that's favorable to TB is a lot more likely than a) a team actually approaching a top-10 player in the world and asking him to needlessly sit out an entire season in the middle of his prime, and B) the player actually agreeing to do it. I don't think you become as good as Kucherov if you're cool sitting on your couch in your age-27 season instead of being out there contending for scoring titles and MVP awards.

I'm not an NHL gm.

But yet you've already decided the dumbness of someone based on a situation that you aren't familiar with.

The goaltending is a problem....Dubas knows this...especially when your Top 2 guys aren't healthy.

Salary cap is a problem.

Who's available that's actually decent?

What is the cost in assets and in dollars?

Are they expiring contracts? Cause ideally you're looking for a guy who'll be a UFA (expansion draft factors into this)...

There are multiple variables involved. Making a bad deal for a goalie could have longer term implications.
