Laika Community Moderator Posted March 7, 2021 Posted March 7, 2021 Watching Buffalo and Taylor Hall really does look cooked. It seems like lots of hockey players peak at like 25, 26 years old.

Any player not named Connor McDavid would have a difficult time creating in the Buffalo system right now. I don't know if it is bad coaching or oversimplification in an attempt to right the ship, but their spacing on offense and strong side breakout are the worst in the NHL right now. They don't create width by moving the puck east west or release valves by bumping up ice vertically. Compound that with some tough shooting luck and this is what you get.

The aging curve for hockey actually peaks at 23 and 24. Slow drop off from there to about 30 and then a steep decline after that.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 8, 2021 Posted March 8, 2021 That's crazy young. I've always assumed peak age would be similar in all major sports, like the 27/28 in baseball. I wonder why it's so young in hockey. Because it's so speed dependent? That is one baseball tool that for the most part just gets worse over time. Now I am wondering about other sports.

Speed and injuries. Large number of hockey players have their careers cut short by injuries, or the injuries cut down on their effectiveness. Lindros went from a beast to a floater. Orr was a shell of his former self the last few years. Kariya, Marc Savard, Pavel Bure, LaFontaine, Cam Neely, etc, etc. It's the speed of the game the leads to the injuries in the first place. Concussions and joint damage mostly.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Hands of stone... finally this 3rd line looks good.
Scion Verified Member Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Auston Matthews is somehow still one of the best scorers on planet earth with one wrist, just unreal.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 12, 2021 Posted March 12, 2021 Leafs traded Lehtonen, good for him, Leafs weren't playing him(dumn), decent goalie spect back, though. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2127760 He'll end up being a top 4 D or better, I feel, lol.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Lehtonen is a UFA after the season. He was our 7th D man. Our goalie depth has taken a beating. VV is likely a #4 goalie. Is really insurance at this point. May develop into something... But most likely just a warm body. I understand why the move was made.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 How'd you guys rank top 32 goaltenders right now... Go...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2021 Posted March 13, 2021 Binnington got a 6 36 extension, not bad kid.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2021 Posted March 14, 2021 Geez... Buds have stunk lately.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Geez... Buds have stunk lately. Time to trade Reilly while he still has value.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 15, 2021 Posted March 15, 2021 Pekka stood on his head, FUuuuuuu... also a PPD tonight, sucks for fantasy man.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 So are the Leafs going to be shopping for a goalie before the deadline?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 So are the Leafs going to be shopping for a goalie before the deadline? They should. They won't.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 20, 2021 Posted March 20, 2021 So are the Leafs going to be shopping for a goalie before the deadline? Possibly... Freddy's been pretty bad this season, Campbell's been great when healthy, I wouldn't be surprised, depends on who's available.
