King Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2020 Posted October 12, 2020 Avs are crushing this offseason. Nice work by Sakic.
King Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2020 Posted October 13, 2020 Vegas signs Pieterangelo to a potential landmine deal while dumping an almost as good, cheaper option to a division rival for pennies on the dollar Good asset management here for sure

I'm glad the Blues didn't pull the trigger on that deal.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2020 Posted October 14, 2020 Holy crap, lol. Just read through the transaction news on nhl.com, now I see what you guys are talking about, Dahlstrom any good, lol. And Nate Schmidt for a 3rd, f*** me, Leafs would've been in on that if they hadn't signed Brodie, one would think.

P2F Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Now Ottawa gives up a 5th round pick for known shitbag and pending UFA Eric Gudbranson. Gudbranson is worse than Duclair, and makes about what Duclair was going to make in arb (3M)? Why would they give up a pick for an overpaid player with no upside while letting a skilled player with the same salary walk for nothing? They're going to be straddling the cap floor and Gudbranson has a 3M salary and 4M cap hit. Ottawa is like the Tampa Bay Rays if their front office consisted of Ruben Amaro overseeing a couple of high school interns. Now the Sens sign an actually pretty good player in Big Daddy. What the f*** is even going through Pierre Dorian's head on the best of days? Why would you not tender Duclair if you planned to add a guy like Dadonov? As you said, it's even more curious that he traded an actual asset to acquire a huge bag of s*** in Gudbranson, who is inferior to Duclair and gets paid the same/more and the team has cap room for days.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 God, i love the Sens. I might need to switch fav teams again.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 The incompetence never ends The Senators board on HF loves the offseason moves and believes Pierre Dorion is a genius.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 The incompetence never ends Refs hate this one trick
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Don't really get the hate for the Gudbranson move. By most accounts he was awful in Vancouver but this past season I thought he was just fine as a physical 4/5 type. Local guy for the Sens, can play 18-20 mins per and provide some grit to compliment their young puck movers. A 5th round pick is pretty much nothing to a team with a bounty of young depth, and if they only spend to the cap floor, he makes 1M less than his cap hit (savings for Melnyk).

Well, you would be wrong sir Gudbranson is the kind of player who makes your team worse. Not much more to say
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Jumbo Joe to Toronto. 1 year. League minimum ($700K).
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2020 Posted October 16, 2020 Well, you would be wrong sir Gudbranson is the kind of player who makes your team worse. Not much more to say You're typically not going to get a player who improves your blueline in return for a late round pick. It's a 5th round pick for an NHL Dman, I just don't see why it's getting much attention. Plus we both know that hockey GMs care way more about intangible factors than their counterparts in these other sports. The Sens aren't really built to compete yet and are set to have a pretty young blueline group. They brought Gudbranson in to be a veteran presence on the ice and in the community, plus add some physicality to insulate those young puck movers. He saves uncle Eugene 1M assuming they only spend to the floor, I don't doubt at all that added to the appeal.

I'm guessing you see players go play in other leagues this season...especially draft eligible ones that need to show what they can do. This is the biggest season of their lives professionally speaking.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 How our guys like Duclair and Hoffman not been signed yet?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 How our guys like Duclair and Hoffman not been signed yet? Might be a reason that Duclair has played for five teams in six seasons.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Might be a reason that Duclair has played for five teams in six seasons. Racist.
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 Racist. I think they were all aware of his race before they acquired him so that seems unlikely.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 How our guys like Duclair and Hoffman not been signed yet? My guess is that they already have 'for sure' deals they can sign, but there may be other teams that have interest and could make better offers but need to move some cash around first. Hoffman especially, is a good offensive player. Unless he's completely misread this market and his demands are ridiculous, there is no reason that he should be signed. Duclair should also have a deal...but he's not as much of a slam dunk as Hoff.
