Always nice to wake up and see Ottawa ahead of Toronto in the standings

I’m hoping Ottawa does better than expected. They’re not a playoff team, but I don’t want them gifting the Avs Hughes.

This Leafs team looking like the players still getting used to one another. Also, Hainsey needs to go, and Nylander should be signed.

Meh, if it's true Nylander is demanding $8M, let him stay home and rot. Hasn't earned it, don't cave to the selfishness.

Babs is going to have a lot to talk about after that one. Take the 2 points....but boy that was ugly. Sparks is gonna get the Enroth treatment real quick if he doesn't show some serious improvement in a damn hurry.

It's funny how everyone thinks the Leafs are a complete atrocity defensively. Yet they were 11th out of 31 teams in Goals Against last season and gave up less goals than the Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals did.

They allowed the fourth-most shots in the entire NHL last season. Freddy was just really, really good.

Edit: I don't really know my ice hockey, so maybe I should just shut my face hole. There are probably better stats that illustrate the opposite.

And shots on goal is a fair stat, but there's way more to than that the defencemen. The forwards not committing to help on defence was a big factor in that stat last season. Yes, it's only 3 games in but so far the Leafs are middle of the pack in Shots Against at 30/game. 2 of their 3 games played they've had mediocre goaltending.

We're basically 1 week into the season so you can pretty much ignore everything you've seen thus far. I think by the time US Thanksgiving rolls around you'll have a much better idea of what this team is. They could very well be horrendous defensively, but I think they have the personnel to improve upon their showing last season.

There are stats that track the number of "high danger" chances for and against. Honestly I think shot differential is fine to use.

The perfect formula for "who outplayed who" would likely include some combination of shot differential, possession stats and high danger scoring chances.

All I know is that the Ducks allowed the 7th most shots and 4th fewest goals last year, because Gibson is the best goalie alive
