Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I would rather see McDavid in edmonton because buffalo has a decent farm without him and it would be nice to see a canadian superstar play for a canadian team for once.

Would be interesting to see what the oilers would do. Would have to assume they'd sell one of their bigger names for some D/goalies

Edmonton's problem is there defense and bottom 6 is just garbage. Goaltending as well but that should be easy to fix.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 One good thing about coyotes winning lottery is that it would allow oilers to take Hanifin and ensuring marner/strome for leafs
Nox Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Hypothetical and obviously just fireballing, EDM gets #1 overall. Boston offers Bergeron + Pasternak + their #1 for McDavid. Who says no?
Nox Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 How good is Pastrnak? You'd probably project him to be a top 6 fwd in his prime at this point. Maybe that's a shade optimistic. I think he's pretty good though.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I don't think there's a chance that Edmonton takes that deal.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Well since my Habs don't have a chance at those 2 superstars I just hope that 2 Canadian teams gets them. When is the lottery draw taking place?
Nox Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I don't think there's a chance that Edmonton takes that deal. Maybe not but Bergeron might be a top 5 player in the whole league. Their top 6 would be pretty legit and you would have to wonder when they're going to tire completely of the perpetual rebuild. Bergeron would probably have to be 27 instead of 30 for them to really be tempted.

Bergeron, a mid 1st rounder and a guy who MIGHT be a top 6 forward is not going to cut it at all.

Any rational mean projection for McDavid would have him have him being less valuable than Bergeron has been throughout his career.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Zaun of the Dead, can I ask you the meaning of your signature "hello, real cops?". Just curious.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Potentially the best hockey talent we've seen since Wayne Gretzky, and LESS valuable than Patrice Bergeron?? What??
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Zaun of the Dead, can I ask you the meaning of your signature "hello, real cops?". Just curious. It's from a movie, Dirty Work with Norm MacDonald and Artie Lange.
Nox Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Potentially the best hockey talent we've seen since Wayne Gretzky, and LESS valuable than Patrice Bergeron?? What?? Brgerun needz moar pointz amirite?
Frag Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Potentially the best hockey talent we've seen since Wayne Gretzky, and LESS valuable than Patrice Bergeron?? What?? Woah there! I'd say Sidney Crosby for now.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 It's from a movie, Dirty Work with Norm MacDonald and Artie Lange. Got it, funny s***! I'm happy no one played that trick when I was a cop.... LOL
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Woah there! I'd say Sidney Crosby for now. Yeah that's why I said potentially, as he could potentially be even better than Sid.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Potentially the best hockey talent we've seen since Wayne Gretzky, and LESS valuable than Patrice Bergeron?? What?? His ceiling is basically another Crosby, but you couldn't reasonably expect him to be that. If Mike Trout is the ceiling of a hypothetical #1 super prospect in baseball, then Bryce Harper to date might be the reasonable projection. Ben Zobrist is Bergeron. Check the WARz over the last 3 years for that analogy. But, I can't see EDM trading a guy who has a Crosby/Trout ceiling, even if the trade makes sense in the world of likely outcomes and projections and spreadsheets.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 Brgerun needz moar pointz amirite? He's just not a run producer

Thank you for explaining hockey to me. Much clearer now.

Bergeron is making over 7.5 for the next 4 years and might only be good for another 5. A better trade offer would be Taveras, Strome and Nick Leddy from NYI and even that offer I could see Edmonton saying no to.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 That offer is much better. Throw in the Isles 1st rounder and I think the Oilers would agree to that deal.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 No, that's just silly. There's a decent chance that McDavid is never as good as Tavares is currently.

Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I think you guys are underestimating how good McDavid is probably going to be.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 18, 2015 Posted March 18, 2015 I think you guys are underestimating how good McDavid is probably going to be. There's just two ways of answering that type of question. One way (you) is to say that I think player X is going to be this good. The other way is to say that player X has a range of possible outcomes of varying likelihood. He could be so good, or so bad, or somewhere in the middle. The most rational thing to assume is that he's somewhere in the middle. Do you think a 50th percentile outcome for McDavid has him being as good as Crosby? If you simulate Connor McDavid's career 100,000 times, what would be the most common outcome?
