That called-off goal was one of the worst calls I've seen this year

Tampa just got f***ing jobbed. Absolutely disgusting call.

Okay, so I've been playing around with points per game among forwards and defencemen in the CHL in relation to age. When I ran a regression between PPG and date of birth (it transfers well to Excel), I got the following R^2 values for each:

Forwards: 0.16

Defencemen: 0.13 (Makes sense that this is lower since offense isn't as important for defencemen)

Afterward, I came up with an expected PPG value calculated using date of birth as the dependent variable in a linear regression formula. With that value, I subtract the player's actual PPG value by his expected PPG (relative to his DOB). Going by this measure, which I'll call age-adjusted PPG, here are the top 10 forwards and defencemen in the CHL:

Forwards (age-adjusted PPG):

1. Jonathan Drouin (1.85 aPPG)

2. Anthony Mantha (1.53)

3. Connor McDavid (1.48)

4. Sam Reinhart (1.33)

5. Nic Petan (1.30)

6. Nikolaj Ehlers (1.27)

7. Anthony Duclair (1.24)

8. Sam Bennett (1.23)

9. Leon Draisaitl (1.22)

10. Connor Brown (1.16)

Defencemen:

1. Anthony DeAngelo (1.12) (Ranked right below Brown in overall list)

2. Guillaume Gelinas (0.99)

3. Josh Morrissey (0.92)

4. Shea Theodore (0.84)

5. Derrick Pouliot (0.79)

6. Randy Gazzola (0.72)

7. Aaron Ekblad (0.67)

8. Julius Honka (0.64)

9. Mac Weegar (0.62)

10. Nikolas Brouillard (0.62)

Oh, and I did the regressions within each league.

Thoughts?

May I ask where in the high holy f***ing hell you managed to find CHL-wide stats that include PPG AND Age? I've been inputting age in manually and I want to die.

My list looks similar to yours (doing something pretty similar) but in a different order. But, I haven't finished doing ages yet. If I found a CHL-wide site with ages and stats I'd be a happy motherf***er.

Hockeydb. I'm using date of birth, which transfers well to excel.

I can't find the Canadian Hockey League on hockeydb. Are you going through all the individual leagues?

E: Hockeydb is really badly done. I can't even find how to search by league. Maybe I'm dumn.

Do you think Brown will be any good? He just came out of nowhere this season.

In terms of production at his age, it's very similar to Lonny Bohonos. So, I don't know, really.

So I have to go through every single team? That's manageable, I guess.

E: I was so wrong. This is next-level tedious.

I can't put into words how special it was watching Drouin and MacKinnon together last year in HFX. Really looking forward to seeing what Drouin can bring to Tampa. His handles are sick.

Some similar work (Frag has probably seen it):

We need some non goal based metrics for junior level players to do a better job here.

I have seen it. I felt it didn't have enough of what I was looking for.

The QMJHL is beginning to count shots and "dangerous shots", though that's offense only. Also, the SHL includes aTOI, which is something I wish the CHL looked into. We have a long way to go before we see something like BtN for junior leagues, and that's no easy task.

Is that who you want to win? I can't f***ing stand Philly besides Giroux, Rangers/Avs and Kings! The team I thought would win the Cup is already eliminated.

Who was that?

Sharks choke again! 3-0 series lead... blown!

I can't believe it. There goes my Bruins/Sharks SCF prediction.

So apparently the n word was trending on twitter in Boston last night after the hockey game. With this being the second time it's happened it really makes the city look bad.

Pittsburgh was lucky to get the win, the rangers severely out chanced them. The fenwick chart looks like an average leafs game.

The Leafs just extended Carlyle for 2 more years........*sighs*

GTFO....Nonis!

Yet they're firing all the assistant coaches
