He has been and still is almost exclusively a sinkerballer. How do you explain such a drastic tick up in k-rate? Can a 24.3% k-rate be sustainable with only a 9.2% whiff-rate (below average)?

Justin Masterson - R - Indians

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Indians are listening to trade offers for Justin Masterson.

The Indians are aiming to contend in 2014 and Masterson is their ace, but Rosenthal says the thinking in dealing him would be to explore "longer-term options." Masterson is entering his walk year, and the Tribe must not feel good about their chances of locking him up to a long-term extension. Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported earlier this offseason that Masterson was looking for an extension in the five-year, $75 million range.

 

That's a reasonable amount considering what other SP are getting. Depending on the package required to land Masterson, I would be interested,

Yeah, he was a great buy low candidate, but now obviously not anymore. That being said, he is better than a lot of other options.

Any idea what the Twins are doing? It seems that they are in on Arroyo too. I get that their rotation was horrible last year but they already added Nolasco and Hughes. Their offense wasn't anything to write home about either.

Depends on what it would cost, but we need a 2/3 type more right now, unless we're talking about getting two SP. I really don't know anything about this SP though.

I'd say go for it. He seems to have good control, and it would allow us more depth.

His numbers look great, also I'm referencing(sp) him as a 2nd arm picked up this winter.

 

Numbers look excellent. Would want to learn more about him though if he is going to be posted. Could be an intriguing options if his AAV is going to be reasonable considering there is zero hype about this guy.

I'm not sure. People suggest that Tanaka doesn't have the upside of Darvish, and this guy doesn't have the upside of Tanaka... At what point do we suggest that he's the next Dice-K? With the hype right now over Japanese pitchers likely to inflate the prices, I think I'd have to be darn sure I knew he really would reach #4 starter or better.

Not sure what's worse: The Philies actually believing Dom Brown is a really good player or the journalist who reports "2-3" players and doesnt specify what type of players those would be, as in every player is the exact same.

I read that earlier and wondered what the heck Rajai Davis had to do with the situation. The Tigers could play Kemp in LF and use Dirks and Davis as part-time players, as they are best suited for.
