G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 If he pitched today wouldn't he pitch on Thursday against the Blue Jays? Yeah. Didn't realize it was another 4 game series.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Yeah. Didn't realize it was another 4 game series. Hey, if you wanna be the best, gotta beat the best!
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Sportsnet: Detroit’s Miguel Cabrera went 1 for 4 with a walk, but his major league-leading batting average dropped two points to .375. He has a 14-game hitting streak. Cabrera appeared to yell toward the Rays’ dugout after striking out against Fernando Rodney (3-2) in the 10th. The Rays closer, who worked two scoreless innings, threw an in-tight 1-2 pitch that backed him off the plate. Rays slugger Evan Longoria was out of the starting lineup for the first time this season due to a sore right foot. The third baseman, who left Friday night’s game, is also expected to sit out on Sunday against the Tigers.
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Detroit is going to be extremely desperate for a bullpen arm at the deadline. We should sell high on Janssen.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 We're not that far back of the Tigers in the standings--only 3.5 back. Detroit is supposed to be one of the best in baseball, but: -Holes in LF and C, and an inconsistent V-Mart. -Anibal Sanchez on DL -Scherzer only real dominant starter--without him, Cleveland's leading the division by a mile. -Very hittable starters outside of Scherzer--Verlander's numbers are down, Fister and Porcello have been inconsistent, and Alvarez is unproven and not a long-term option(he's not even a propsect!) -That AWFUL bullpen! (6-14, 4.04 ERA and just 17 saves) -Weak farm system--only blue chip prospect right now is Nick Castellanos(why hasn't he been called up yet?)
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 We're in contention. No way. Detroit's more likely going to overpay for someone like Johnathon Papelbon or Jesse Crain, or even Kevin Gregg.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 One more note--Detroit is an ugly 17-20 on the road, which is not a good number for a contending team like the Tigers.
Metallijay Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 They had an article on sportsline on what each contender needs, they never even mentioned the Jay's. I guess no one sees us as a contender yet? We are a bit back but not far back either, still doable although it will be unlikely.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 (edited) @Chris_Iott: Jim Leyland on the ball near Cabrera's head: "We won't tolerate that. ... There's a price to pay for that." @jonmorosi: Tomorrow is last Rays-Tigers game this season. If Tigers feel the Cabrera tower-buzzing merits a reply in 2013, we should find out soon. @jonmorosi: Not saying there should be, necessarily. But Cabrera's response indicated that he was quite seriously offended. http://www.detroitnews.com/article/20130629/SPORTS0104/306290052/1004/ Edited June 30, 2013 by G-Snarls

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 STeryroyds Remember when Bautista came out of nowhere and all these articles were being written "the question that must be asked..." And all that garbage... Has anyone seen any articles from mainstream media "asking the question" about Davis? Why was it ok to jump all over Bautista but not Davis?

One of them is white and plays for an American team But in all seriousness I guess it's because Davis was once a really hyped prospect with ridiculous power. He just couldn't figure it out at the time, but I guess now he has. But with all this Biogenesis saga going on, I'm shocked no one has even said a thing and Davis now has 30 bombs already!
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 That was for contenders within 3 games.

The funny part is reading O's forum saying how we swept them cause Bautista is a cheater so therefore the whole team is doing PED while at the same time not a single word about Davis.

Laughable double standard For the record I don't really suspect Davis is cheating. I'm even more confident that Bautista is not.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 This is how bad the Yankees are right now: http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york/yankees/post/_/id/58285/first-pitch-girardis-hands-are-tied Basically, it shows: JPA > Stewart/Romine Lind > Overbay Izturis/Boni/DeRosa < Cano Adams < Izturis/DeRosa/Lawrie(no joke!) Reyes/Kawasaki > Nix Cabrera/Davis > Wells Rasmus = Gardner Bautista > Ichiro Encarnacion/Lind > Hafner Pretty embarassing for the Yankees.. and no significant help is coming.

John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Laughable double standard For the record I don't really suspect Davis is cheating. I'm even more confident that Bautista is not. I don't think Davis is any more or less likely to be taking PEDs than any other player either, just wondering why nobody is asking the question like they did of Bautista. Seems that with biogenesis being a topic on everyone's mind these days, it would seem a no brainer for journalists to get attention, regardless of legitimacy, just like they did with Bautista.

Maybe because it's only been half a season of beast mode on a team that gets little national attention. If he carries this on in to next season people will start questioning.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Agreed--Pettite's declining, Hughes has home run issues and needs to be traded to a NL team with a large park, and Phelps/Nova have consistency issues. I mean, look how bad Phelps was last night!

I'd guess it's because Bautista came out of nowhere, where as Davis was a fairly highly touted prospect (just like someone above said). So when Bautista figured it out it seemed more likely that he had to have had help because he came out of nowhere.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 And another disappointing game for the Tigers. Cleveland is now in 1st in the Central. Detroit is now out of the playoff mix for the wild card--they're well back of Baltimore and Oakland. Doesn't bode well for the Tigers in their coming series with Toronto and Cleveland--they're very similar to the Jays, but with a ton of inconsistency outside of Scherzer, Cabrera and Fielder.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Had no idea Cleveland was close to Detroit to begin with, that's crazy. I don't understand how Detroit can scuffle so much with their star players playing so well. Kipnis, Santana OBP, Kluber K's, Masterson GB% and................Chris Perez weed?
