    even knowing what pitch is coming should not be that easy, partly because you don't know location. But 90-92 4sFB over the meat of the plate will get ugly in Williamsport (sorry I mean the Great Yankee Stadium) - and people think The Rays' stadium is bad. this place is a joke - only the Jays are a bigger one (at least right now).....

    DUDE, he said that a good while back. I heard he had already been 'waffling' when asked about it more recently. I think Mike's suggestion of $40 M for 1 year is forseeable, but I still think he takes 2 / 70 if he likes the team offering. Jays probably need to go 1 / 45 ?

    Sign me up for Bauer at 2 years / $70M (says he wants to go short term so let's see if he follows through!). Stroman - bad blood with the front office and some of the players (Grichuk...) - pass Paxton - nice thought to bring the Canuck in but too much of a DL-case and will be 32 years old I like the idea of taking a shot on Kluber if price is right - he is a grinder!

    Also DeGrom is already 32 years old (turning 33 next June). I don't think the Jays are in the right part of the 'curve' to justify spending the prospect capital he would demand.

    yep, just what I was thinking. It's sad that so many of these guys keep burning out their arms. TJS can have a good result (Merryweather?, knock on wood.....), but 18+ mo recovery is so long.

    Yeah, always hard to sweep, and it often seems like an offensive downturn inevitably follows an outburst like the Yankees have had in the last couple games. I could see something like a 6-5 Jays lead going into the bottom of the 9th with yet another LeMahieu oppo shot (2 run HR) to walk it off (against Bass). BTW: I was trying to look up the most runs surrendered in a 3 game series in MLB and found: "The record for the most runs scored in a 3-game series is 86 by the Louisville Colonels (AA) against the New York Metropolitans in 1887. The Colonels won all 3 by the scores of 14-8, 23-5, 25-11. Since 1900 the record is 78 by the Brooklyn Dodgers (NL) against the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1950. Brooklyn won the first two 15-3 and 21-12 while dropping the third 16-11." So the Louisville Colonels scored 62 in 3 games in 1887 while the Dodgers scored 47 in 3 games in 1900 (modern era record). Yankees need 14 to tie the modern era record - could happen but seems highly unlikely......

    Yes, I was sure Tanaka was going to go down for extended period (TJS) but was one of the few 'lucky' ones to avoid and still be effective for the most part throughout. Speaking of which, he is a FA after this season and 2021 is his age 32 season. Seems like a guy the Jays should be looking into if serious about being a contender, but I would be wary of anything more than 3 yr / $45 M (even that might be too much). They say Giles has a forearm flexor strain, but I wonder to what extent this is actually caused by some issue in the elbow itself (like a partially torn UCL puts extra strain on other parts of the throwing arm?). It (flexor strain) seems to come up a lot. Anyone here have recent info on Romano? I read it was a finger 'pulley ligament' strain (same thing that Sanchez ended up having surgery on in 2018), and that he is 'not yet throwing off the mound'. So he may be just soft tossing to keep the arm a bit limber while hoping that finger heals up. Probably out for the year.

    That's what I mean - is he trying to pitch through a partial tear (like Tanaka did)? I suspect the Jays (and Giles) must know but are staying tight-lipped. Too bad for him, but it's the way it is going for so many pitchers these days.

    Question is what is actually wrong with his elbow and what would it take to get him back on track? Is this a partial UCL tear or what!?

    a tweet from Joel Sherman from yesterday: "Prior to noon Eastern 9/20 each club must submit to MLB its list postseason-eligible personnel: Up to 40 players, including 28 active and up to 12 taxi squad, including players currently on Injured, Paternity, Bereavement or Suspended List." So I assume these taxi squad players need to be put on the traditional 40 man roster before they can be added to the 28 man active roster in the post-season. Anyway, if they have 28 man roster throughout, it makes the Jays' chances of piecing together a pitching staff more doable than the old 25 man roster.

    Yeah when on his game as he was last outing, Ray is impressive. I hope the Jays don't overuse Ryu, with his long injury history, because he is too important to the team in the next couple years when they hopefully will be more legit championship contenders.

    yeah the Jays have a lot of starting pitchers who are the same right now. As s***** as Walker may be, he is probably still the 2nd best starter on the active roster currently (although that doesn't include Borucki or Kay or Hatch, or ......)

    I remember he got it to 2 outs with the score still 1-1, then a sinking line drive by Wade to RF and a sharp single by Lemahieu - then he just mailed it in from there (although he had thrown so many pitches already, it might not be fair to be too harsh on him by that point). If that ball hit by Wade stays in the air a bit longer (and Fisher actually catches it) they get out of it tied 1-1. I am more concerned about Walker's mental toughness and attitude than his pitching ability at this point. Fisher I think just can't hack it mentally - not a coincidence that he went to s*** in what everyone knew was a big game.

    Who the hell is still watching a 17-3 game as this one was after 6 innings. Fans would all be heading for the exits also (if any were there).
