  1. Naw about 90 pitches and 5 ip. He's done for sure. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Kirk ends up being Robbie Ray's 'muse' and helps him turn it around?
  2. Isn't getting a quick reaction and running a good route more important than pure speed, unless you're Billy Hamilton with speed to burn ?
  3. I guess all managers will have favorites. Or is this a vetrin thing ?
  4. That seems a pretty clear sign of a guy who is really struggling with his confidence. It's painful to watch, and you can imagine he really wants to contribute. Reminds me of Steve Pearce how he struggled so bad when he first came to the Jays, and a couple times was literally on the bench holding back tears, he was so dejected.
  5. the guy seems pretty solid on D. His hitting has been a disappointment so far, considering what he did in the MiLB...... According to Fangraphs, he is currently overall (2018-20) -19.3 on O, and + 22.2 on D with a combined fWAR of 2.2 (168 games, 579 PA)
  6. best game for Jays fan since the Bautista 'epic bat flip' game??!! ETA: this IS the evil empire we are dealing with here........
  7. yeah this BP is a lot more intimidating than a year ago (when they are all in the lineup)!
  8. Giles can still get it up there as well!
  9. excellent question. I think this is a true triple-crown candidate, BUT with piss-poor conditioning, he becomes an inconsistent hitter with flashes of brilliance ?????
  10. Yes, it is not a matter of bat speed and resulting exit velocity. It is more a matter of reaction time to get the bat around into the 'damage-generating' zone. I'm just thinking the 'bulk' is inhibiting his reaction to contact time interval, and you know they say when a guy "fouled that one straight back" it is thought by many that it is because he is a bit late. Same with Vlad and pounding the ball into the ground?!
  11. Panik has been around for a long time (since 2014, anyway)! He is more used to having a 162 game season to get things rolling. Here's an interesting tidbit: in 2014-2017, Panik had 1818 total PA and 8.9 fWAR in 2018-2020, he has had 962 PA and only 0.4 fWAR. Just to clarify, he will turn 30 yo on Oct 30th
  12. Not sure how much of this is 'tongue in cheek', but I seriously think Vlad's excess bulk is affecting his hitting. If he could get to his Feb. physical form, he might be a lot better off.
  13. Not to mention 10 of the remaining 20 games against the Yanks. At least 7 of the games are going to be in Buffalo.
  14. It was more like a play with the Cubs a few years back that, as I recall, led to the left fielder Kyle Scharber missing most of the season with a knee injury.
  15. stress for the fans is probably ok as long as they win. BUT this has to be emotionally draining on the players eventually. I guess the upside, it will feel like they have been playing playoff baseball since end of July - assuming they get to the post-season, so all these young players might be less intimidated.
  16. that can't happen - Buck Martinez ETA Buck right on the money this time! Little League ******** out there.
  17. yes, but it's not the DH position - if you shift your DH over to play a position, the spot in the order for the player the DH replaced (Plawecki) becomes the pitcher's spot NL style
  18. He looked sharp there in the 8th. May as well leave him in for the 9th
  19. too damn many close games just magnifying every error/mistake!!! The Jays have won 21 games, 11 of them by 1 run. The loss column isn't much different. It's been a weird run......
  20. yeah , he is an easy guy to root for. It's one of the greatest things about watching sports to see guys like him 'make it'. And I believe he will. He may never be a 'star' but I think he is every bit the player as someone like Justin Smoak has been and likely a bit better!
  21. meant he is doing it on both D and O: nice grab on a tough bounce, immediately followed up by the HR in the following half inning, but I see where your mind is Mr. Naughty:p
  22. My question for Montoya would be: how did it feel to come over and win the CART championship, then the next year win THE 500 after having been unable to catch on in F1! Sorry, had to do it - seems you misspell the name intentionally. P.S. in these parts he is more commonly known as 'Chuckles "The Monster" Buntoyo'
  23. Big man doing on both ends !!!
  24. another nice grab by Tellez. good hands on D!!
  25. nice grab by Tellez.! I love every time a 1st baseman makes a great grab and throw like that (the old 3-6 force play)
