  1. yeah I think it's just a BJMB THING. Every time he sac bunts or does something equally peculiar/irritating like 'lengthening his lineup by putting one of his best players in the 8 hole, guys here come up with new 'derogatory' ways to reference the ass-clown. Then again, if he wins it all, we will all just declare 4-D chess, with Charlie as the Champ and Canadian hero!!
  2. Apparently, that's not a thing anymore (unless you are talking 5 ip / 90 pitches being 'deep'). I can't argue though: that 3rd time through the order tends to be really awful if your name is not Scherzer, Cole, DeGrom, etc...../.
  3. Chuckie would be José Carlos Montoyo Díaz (Charlie Montoyo). Chuck is to Charles/Charlie as Bob is to Robert.
  4. TEN games of the remaining 25 are against the Yanks. This could be epic!. Fun times (hopefully) coming up this September.
  5. more like the bullpen gave Ryu the 'support' that the offense 'barely managed' after he delivered 6 solid innings, only giving up 1 run. At 3 and 1, he could easily be 6 and 1 with better run and bullpen support. P.S. : when is Giles coming back !!?? REALLY uncomfortable seeing Anthony Bass go out for the save with a 1 run lead. Also, anyone know what is up with Romano ??
  6. comedy gold Let's just hope Chuckie and the boys don't win the WS, or we will be stuck with him for at least one more season ...... oh wait, ........ J/K - they aren't winning this year - I could see them pulling a 1st round upset then going cold and s***ing the bed in the 2nd round.
  7. LOL. Chuckles Buntoyo right up there with Mao, and Stalin (oh and that Austrian guy)
  8. Isn't that the same ridiculous thing that Tabler always says?
  9. I can't see how they don't play him at SS until Bichette is back. He is undeniably better than the alternatives (Panik and Espinal) for his overall abilities. But as a backup (after Bichette is back) he could be a 'utility' guy to fill in at various positions. Although I have never heard of Villar playing the OF.
  10. Well, if you are a total mirage in the minors, even 170+ PAs in MLB will expose you. So he can hit MLB pitching. Maybe his hits were mostly against crappier MLB pitchers, but MLB pitchers nonetheless. I guess you can look at different stats to make an argument. His MLB BABIP is .280, versus an MLB BA of .253. That's reasonable isn't it? His numbers on balls in play are : 21.5% soft / 50.0 % medium / 28.5 % hard. Is that decent? He seems to spray the ball to all fields (makes him harder to defend?): 38.5% pull / 32.3 % center / 29.2 % oppo barrel percent is pretty s***** (4.6 %) although Jansen is only 6.2 % so not much different. I agree with BauBau - trade one of these guys this offseason and bring in a vet to work alongside the other. Give Kirk at least 1 more season in the minors (seems obvious since he only has reached A+)
  11. Yeah probably you will be proven correct. I just think it's hard to tell from this clusterf*** of a season what a guy is really all about, and he is only getting 30% of the ABs, so hard to get things going when you don't play much.....
  12. I agree, while there has been a lot of doubt whether Shapiro and Atkins are right for the job in TO (specifically, are they too stuck in 'small market' mode), you have to like what they have done this year from signing Ryu to these solid trade deadline moves without having to give up much in return. The only head scratcher is still Vogelbach. I don't expect him to stick on this roster - no time to let a guy 'get it going'.
  13. I agree, it seems an obvious thing to bat Villar 9th, so you get that quasi-leadoff hitter while still having your on base machine at the top of the order getting maximum PAs. Also, Villar is a pretty good hitter in his own right so helps lengthen the batting order. Shaw needs to get it going or if/when Bichette is back he may be riding the pine with Villar at 3rd. Otherwise, Villar on the bench as a backup and pinch runner with good wheels is really great to have. Thank you Marlins very much
  14. I read Dustin Pedroia's autobiography about 5 years ago. I remember in there he said something about a scout for one of the other teams commenting that he had never seen a guy succeed like that 'swinging from his ass' (I believe that was the comment or something along those lines).
  15. You can't necessarily go by minor league numbers. Jansen was tearing up the minors in 2017 and 2018. Look at his performance so far in the bigs (565 PA and 76 wRC+). I'll believe Kirk is something more than a maybe when he proves it in The Show. Anyway does this team need anymore fat guys. Seriously!
  16. Just to clarify that is NEGATIVE 43 wRC+ (in 38 PA). BUT in his defense, he did have 146 wRC+ in 33 PA in 2018 and 128 wRC+ in 105 PA in 2019, so has proven he can hit at the MLB level. This has been a screwed up season all around, and some guys may be affected more than others , so I would need to see more before writing him off. ETA overall McGuire is 95 wRC+ in 176 PA at MLB level. Pretty good for a #2 catcher
  17. But was he talking about Ben circa 1984 (bronze at the Olympics) or 1987/88. There is a noticeable difference in him post 1984. Sort of like what happened with Bonds and McGuire.
  18. yeah weak because they avoid physical activity. But as you said, it is most, not all. Similarly a thin person who is inactive can also be weak with horrible muscle tone.
  19. but doers that necessarily mean adding muscle mass, as Dragon contends ?
  20. so it doesn't require strength to hit the ball hard?
  21. So you never heard of muscle tone ?! Did you ever wonder why a relatively skinny guy like Ted Williams could hit all those HRs ?
  22. Chalk another one in the W column for Atkins (only had to give up Phelps last season to get him).
  23. You don't need to put on more muscle mass to get stronger, just better 'conditioning' the existing muscles. So that along with losing some of his copious amounts of flab, it is very reasonable to expect both.
  24. Probably can at least give the starter a chance to start the 6th (he did it with the same guy last time out on a much weaker outing against a better lineup). Seems Charlie is lost most of the time. He is only capable of being a AAA manager
  25. May be the right move to remove Anderson, but totally wrong move to use Font here. This is the 2nd game in a row now that Anderson left with a lead only to have Font blow it. At least this time he was able to limit the damage. Font is too inconsistent, and when he is not on, he is awful. DFA all the way on this piece of dog s***.
