  1. Bonds and Clemens not being in the Hall of Fame is a complete joke. You might as well tear that building down. Ortiz got in because he's a media darling while Bonds/Clemens were not. You should not be in a position of power if you make decisions based on this. Both Bonds/Clemens guys were BEASTS before their supposed roid usage and were easily on track to make the Hall of Fame anyways. And of all people to get in is the guy who should be a poster child for Roids. Ortiz was a complete scrub and then got good out of nowhere. It's not a coincidence that he got busted for roids during that time.
  2. Hope they can nail this down now since any big delays here could start impacting the 2022 season, which means less money for both sides in the short term.
  3. Semien got severely overpaid in what was expected so that makes sense. Ray was looking to get slightly more than what we gave Gausman so I thought we did give an offer and we just chose whoever accepted first. Gausman got more closely to what was expected so that makes it more concerning why the Giants wouldn't even bother trying to match that offer. I'm sure you see the difference. Again, it could been strictly budget related for the Giants and really wanted him back but couldn't make it. I just said it doesn't make me feel better as a Jays fan knowing this tidbit, which was probably aimed at the San Fran crowd as to why he chose the Jays over the Giants.
  4. Not sure if that makes me feel better about Gausman from a Jays perspective lol.
  5. I'd rather spend the 250M on players tbh lol. A winning product will always attract fans. A losing product will not no matter how nice the park is.
  6. LOL I've watched too much Narcos to mess with anyone in Mexico.
  7. I f***ing love this guy. I really wish we were able to contend earlier so he could have had more chances in the playoff spotlight.
  8. Barry Bonds is the best player I've seen play baseball and deserves to be in the hall of fame period. Just thought I'd give my 2 cents lol.
  9. I get the excellent players part but if we're not able to re-sign them after their current contracts, it doesn't make much sense to lose all that control of someone like Bo. And if you're going to try to re-sign them then might as well use that money in free agency first. We're trying to sustain our winning and not just go for it in a 2 year window. Thats all I was trying to say.
  10. For one, it could probably help with his durability issues. Dude gets treated with kid gloves because he's probably never worked out in his life lol. Look at what getting in shape did for Ray. It wasn't a coincidence that he had his best season in a year he took his body seriously.
  11. Why give up all that when all we have to do is spend cash in free agency? Unless you're saying we give up all that just so Ramirez and Bieber can walk out the door once they fit free agency.
  12. That's great news for how the rest of free agency can go. Texas f***ed up free agency by giving out the contracts they did. Like I've been saying all along, I am extremely confident that we will be adding a difference maker in the infield. Now I'm curious if we could have signed Syndargard and gotten Gausman because that would put us in the mix for the remaining starters out there.
  13. I never said Semien needs to be replaced with a Semien like player but he better be more of a sure thing than guys who have yet to contribute at the big league level. I'd even like Donaldson if we could get the Twins to eat some salary. I'm never really a fan of expecting increased WAR from some players while not accounting for other injuries that can and probably will happen. Call me naive but I'm very confident we are adding a good infielder to this team. This will not be a half measure off season. Let's see what the landscape looks like when we return from the lockout.
  14. Who says it would be in stupid ways though? Expecting to replace a top 3 MVP candidate with the likes of Moreno or Smith I feel would be stupid in a year we're contending for a world series. Like I said, Moreno didn't even get a call up when we had a massive hole at 3B with performance/injury issues. Expecting him to take the starting job with 0 track record at the big league level while learning a new position seems far fetched. I will place my bets that our starting 3rd baseman is not currently on our roster. Just hoping he's good enough to stomach losing Semien a bit easier.
  15. Renfroe was so damn good for them while Bradley sucked balls and makes more money. All for 2 average prospects? There has to be a lot of cash going to Boston too right?
  16. There are a lot of good changes that can be made as long as both sides are reasonable. MLBPA's recommendation for the luxury tax increase seems like a joke. I could see that being the biggest issue.
  17. I just have a feeling that Stripling will surprise many of us and take the 5th spot in his contract year. I understand he was pretty bad to start the year but he was pitching pretty well near the end of the season before getting hurt. Take a look at his numbers from May 24 to August 10. He made some changes to his delivery and it was effective. There was a legit debate at that time who will take the 5th spot between him and Matz. Stripling got hurt and Matz went onto to lock that spot down. Could have easily gone the other way had Matz got hurt and Stripling stayed healthy.
  18. I agree with this. I'd rather find a Semien replacement than worry about a Matz replacement. One clearly leaves a gaping hole while the other can be patched up like it was last year or maybe even Stripling/Pearson can surprise us.
  19. Tampa and the A's have set themselves on a whole different level when it comes to doing this. I understand we don't need an allstar at every position, which is why I'm good with Espinal/Biggio platooning at 2B. Our management has said their plan is to get better and you don't downgrade from a top 3 MVP candidate who also won the gold glove to Moreno unless it's extremely obvious he's about to rake offensively and defensively at the big league level. If that were the case, I'm sure Moreno would have been called up for at least a few games like Kirk was the year before. We had a gaping hole at 3B when Biggio/Espinal went down so I'm just extremely skeptical that Moreno is ready to be our opening day 3rd baseman. Im really confident that we will land a big fish for the infield. Still lots off time left until opening day to make it happen.
  20. Damn... good for Stroman. Guess he wins the offseason lol
  21. I think we should stop placing so much importance on prospects contributing to the big club until they've actually shown something there. People were including Pearson as part of their starting rotation last year and we all know how that worked out. It's fine to do that when you're rebuilding and not looking to win a world series but we've past that stage. When and if Moreno is THAT good, we can figure it out at that point. Until then, you don't downgrade from Semien to Smith without realizing you just got MUCH worse. Ideally we fill 3B and let Biggio/Espinal platoon 2B.
  22. Aren't the Cubs cutting costs in every conceivable way? Maybe they're just signing to eventually trade him lol.
  23. Exactly... we are going for the world series from the start this year. No more kid gloves with half a season of Biggio at 3B or starting the season with a piss poor bullpen. While you can debate the overly patient approach, those inactions cost us a chance to make the playoffs and possibly win a world series last year. So for this season, we're not going to have mediocre stop gaps like Smith starting while we wait for Moreno. It's go time baby lol.
  24. Exactly, at that price range it made more sense to bring back Semien who plays a position of need rather than a guy who plays the same position as your best player.
  25. I love the 2 division alignment with 12 teams making the playoffs. Leads to a more balanced schedule and still rewards division winners. $240M Luxury tax only penalizes like a couple of teams... it should be a lot lower than that lol.
