  1. Makes sense, but if he starts in TC and is effective they may give him that 5th spot. It all boils downs to who has options. The best out of options SP in TC will get that 5th spot, period. Merryweather may also have the makeup to be an effective opener. Come in for 1 to 1.5 times through the order dealing. It will be interesting and exciting to see how this all shakes out.
  2. What is the success rate for the first TJ? 90%? Better now than later.
  3. What if he starts in TC and is lights out...there will be some tough decisions to make.
  4. Merryweather is a guy I am still really optimistic about. I hope to gawd he stays healthy and finds himself right in the mix during ST
  5. I would be down with that. Would you have to trade a Kay, or even a Thornton+, to get him? I don't know how to assess his value in comparison to our SP depth. BTW, I am higher on Kay than Thornton atm.
  6. I do, too. Maybe not as bad, but I would smile at the signing, mostly because he's so entertaining. He runs the bases like his hair is on fire. I just don't know if I would want him for 2-3 years (more?), or a 1-year. Last I saw Steamer has him at < 2 WAR. I would say 2.5 WAR or more is possible in a new environment. It would spell the end of the one of the middling youngsters at least. Turn a 0 WAR into 2 WAR.
  7. I agree about Price...they must have really wanted him gone, because for me he was still worth $15-18M/year for sure. Plus, on the right team (which may be every team but the Red Sox), he's a great teammate. I think superstars like Betts in their walk year will not be getting as much as in years (decades) past. I think that was a fair return on Betts.
  8. I'll have to check Fangraphs, there has to be a way to filter for Drury's defense at SS, but I will bet it is competent. Holt makes a lot of sense for this team. Plus he seems to be a Jays killer, and to have him on our side would be nice.
  9. Don't Shaw, Drury and Biggio all play short? Aside from injury, why couldn't Bichette play 140+ games at SS? I am still hoping we sign Brock Holt. He plays SS, too. He would make Drury redundant, presumably.
  10. That is UNBELIEVABLY cool. Wow, how did I not hear about this??? Thanks for posting that link. Wow.
  11. That may be the highest spot for Manoah I've seen.
  12. The Jays have added Panik and Dull. Panik seems like a solid signing. Dull is a definite dull move. Anyway, more depth. I like that.
  13. What a dull joke. As in yes, they've signed Dull again! https://www.cbssports.com/fantasy/baseball/news/blue-jays-ryan-dull-returning-to-blue-jays/
  14. Joe Panik sounds okay. He bats left, and his splits against righties looks decent. This is old, but here's a scouting report on him. Has lots of tools minus power. They viewed him as a high floor, low ceiling potential super sub. https://baseballprospectnation.wordpress.com/2013/02/21/scouting-report-joe-panik-inf/
  15. If he is needed at SS, that's bad. I think Espinal is next on the depth charts. Him I like. I do not know how to look up Holt's defense at SS specifically.
  16. Would anyone be happy if we signed Brock Holt? It would mean we could option Drury at the very least. I don't have the numbers, but Holt seems to be a persistent Jays killer. And plays every position pretty well. Add to that better than league average offence... He's 31-years old though.
  17. Okay, fair point. But I will say this. It is more likely for Osuna to punch a woman again than for Giles to punch himself in the face again. That's just science.
  18. It is never easy being a whistle blower, and that would go for baseball players. Maybe if baseball instituted a whistle blower policy that protected those players, and provided anonymity...
  19. You wouldn't get this same punishment every time. It would get worse. The team may even forfeit TV revenue, or a full season. It was actually a more extreme punishment than I expected, tbh. But I do think it's fair. I would have liked to seen a $20M fine or something, too. But those draft picks could end up being worth hundreds of millions.
  20. I would sign him, for sure. What's his ETA 2021, or will he be ready for 2020? I've sort of forgotten his issue...shoulder/labrum tear? I know the numbers aren't there, but I still think he would be a sweet bullpen add long term.
  21. Yeah, I like it. I don't think he will be traded in the off-season. And really, for me anyway, we got him for f***ing Osuna, who's a girl beater. We did okay. That was an okay trade considering the toxic nuances. And, on a personal note, I dig Giles. He seems like a guy who will take a bullet for a win.
  22. I will not miss him, but he may be a good bench piece. If given 500 AB I will bet he provides > 1 WAR. On a championship team, he's be a decent bench piece. Great defense and will get the occasional hit. But he has no place on the Jays rosters. On a OF-heavy team, maybe.
  23. Seems like a cool dude. Love it.
