  1. He likely was put on waivers a couple of days ago and it just wasn't announced right away.
  2. Only two lefties versus Berrios in a Rays lineup. I find that surprising.

  4. What is something they have never said about SR. ?
  5. I would think a month of major league salary and showcase time might be worth it.
  6. He played first base the other day
  7. It's massaging the egos of the players/agents too. JD/Boras can say he got 12 million even though todays value is really much less. With Shohei's contract it helps the teams budget the first two years but in year three they have to start paying into an escrow fund for Ohtani's deferment.
  8. For many people with gambling problems, it's not always about trying to set yourself up with wealth. It's the competitiveness of it and trying to win that keeps bringing them back. They are hooked on the dopamine rush that comes from winning. Guys like Jordan, who are uber competitive, would feed off that feeling of winning.
  9. Enough money to support your family going forward might make it worth it to some people.
  10. That's an excellent question. it's being paid out at a later date so makes you wonder why it wouldn't just be deferred money.
  11. I can't see any way possible they even considered a guy who hit his girlfriend in public (and beat her in private)
  12. Who cares? You sound like a Yankees fan. "I don't care if my players beat their wives as long as they don't fool around and don't have beards or sideburns"
  13. It still baffles me that Texas managed to win a world series with Degrom and Scherzer on the shelf.
  14. Living in the Maritimes, this will actually be preferable to the time most of Ohtani's games will start this year....but him being in LA is good for the game I guess.
  15. This makes me fear he will end up with the Dodgers and exceed all expectations.
  16. The Raptors and Grizzlies were brought in with some rules that made live a lot more difficult for them compared to other expansion teams (especially compared to what the NHL does now). The big one is they were barred from having top picks for three years (Imagine the Raps with Iverson and Grizz with Duncan as that's what that rule prevented) but they also weren't allowed to spend up to the cap. They were very mismanaged and didn't put an exciting product on the court (Big country Bryant Reeves was a decent player but not exciting in any way. Same with Shareef Abdur-Rahim who was a good player but didn't have an exciting game. Steve Francis being drafted and refusing to play for them may have been the nail in the coffin for the team). Surely a lockout early in the teams history didn't help either.
  17. I'm not sure I would trust anything Heyman says.
  18. I think you are correct in the sense that Tony Clark likely doesn't consider that pre-arb players getting paid peanuts is why middle of the road vets can't make any money. Why pay a guy $10 million for 1-1.5 WAR when you can get 0.75 from a 600K pre arb guy?
  19. pythag records only take runs scored and allowed into account right? I would think there are some pretty big luck and timing aspects to runs scored (ie stringing together hits). It's interesting that their pythag was so good when the Jays actually had a better team WRC+ last year AND a better XFIP. Orioles were superior in base running metrics which could have had an impact but Jays were significantly better defensively.
  20. Time for rookie scale contract minimums to increase too
  21. I voted 85-89 as that's the safest bet. The offense has to be a massive concern and I'm not sure the elevation of Mattingly is enough to fix the issues they had when also accounting for downgrades from last year at several positions. Pitching was unusually healthy last year and it's looking early on that that may not be the case this year.
  22. I am sure this is all true but knowing this makes spending 17.5 million on IKF and KK a terrible mistake and shows a terrible understanding/forecasting of the market from the Jays front office.
  23. Keep in mind Vlad is hitting free agency at a much younger age than those guys, which could impact things if the performance dictates it.
  24. I feel like when Jackson got drafted they were saying Ethan was even better. I wonder if that is still possible?
  25. The fact you can see his shirt through his pants is the embarassing part. I had higher quality uniforms on my non competitive little league team in the 80's..
