  1. Was it ever determined how much IFA spending we have left? Some were saying $1 million, while some were saying $50,000. If we're equal in everything else with the Yankees and Rangers, I'm sure he goes to the team offering the higher bonus. It might not matter much, but doesn't mean it doesn't matter at all. It's probably just lower on the totem pole for him.
  2. Wow, totally forgot Burdi had TJS. Would he still be worth picking?
  3. Nick Burdi is a really good one. I'd always advocate for picking a bullpen piece/pitcher in general over a position player in the Rule 5. Way easier to stash a pitcher away on the 25 man rather than a position player since theres more room. Some decent picks available in this Rule 5 actually. Jose Almonte (DBacks, RHP), John Means (Orioles, LHP), Jordan Guerrero (White Sox, LHP), Luis Martinez (White Sox, RHP).
  4. If Otani really doesn't care about money and eats, sleeps, and trains baseball, the High Performance Department might actually be a very good selling point to him. One way we edge out any other team.
  5. I think he's going to get overpaid regardless. He's not going to get $210M, but good chance he gets around $150M, which is still too much for him.
  6. Am I the only one that finds it ridiculous that JD Martinez is gonna get as big of a contract as he is? Atrocious base runner. Atrocious defender. Career BABIP of .341 with a 25.2 K% and a 8 BB%. As soon as his contact/power diminishes he'll become a pumpkin. Maybe I'll be wrong like I was with the Matt Holliday/Cardinals contract, but JDM seems like a landmine waiting to happen.
  7. An option, but reports of him aren't exactly glowing, plus it's not like he's tearing up the minors. At least with someone like Taylor he did really well in the minors with a career slashline of .314/.400/.458. Plus the Dodgers weren't exactly pinning their hopes on Taylor. He just kinda broke out. They still had plenty of depth ahead of him. I'd be wary of having Lourdes Gurriel as our primary UTIL option going into next season. I'd want another guy just to be sure. More depth never hurts.
  8. You're probably right. He really is the perfect fit though. Switch hitter, lead-off, can play infield + outfield. We're probably not gonna get one of these utility types that are already established since they're so hard to come by. Gonna have to take a gamble and trade for someone unproven like the Dodgers did with Chris Taylor.
  9. If we could somehow get Cesar Hernandez from the Phils, that would be fantastic.
  10. Can anyone with a BA subscription post the updated scouting report for Maitan?
  11. Joel Sherman: Tentative agreement reached among NPB, MLB, Players Association on posting system to cover this offseason, then 3-yr deal moving forward. going to be 10 days until owners ratify, earliest Ohtani posted next Friday.
  12. Good for teams like the Pirates and Twins who are less likely to get Otahni but still have IFA cash to spend. They struck a goldmine here.
  13. Braves lose 12 IFA's in total including Kevin Maitan. They lose a 3rd round draft pick in next years MLB draft. And finally they also have restrictions placed on them in the 2019-20 and 2020-21 IFA class. John Copollela might've destroyed a good portion of the Braves future competitive window.
  14. My guess is more than likely their Top IFA from the 2016 draft is gone, and maybe some from the 2017 class as well. Plus IFA signing restriction for the 2018 season and maybe a fine. The MLB is ironically chopping the Braves down with a Tomahawk. Really stupid considering how easy the Cardinals got off when they hacked the Astros. Meanwhile, I'm sure Braves weren't the only team doing the type of stuff they did to sign IFA's.
  15. Braves officially lose Kevin Maitan. More losses are coming.
  16. Gets to keep his $4.2 million bonus, plus he''ll get another huge signing bonus when signed again. Lucky kid.
  17. I'm dumb. I meant Maitan. Acuna is safe. He was signed under the old regime.
  18. Acuna is as good as gone.
  19. I hope we trade for Profar today.
  20. Most available free agent outfielders are players that we should avoid, but we'll have to end up signing someone. There's not really an ideal situation here. It's not like we have a young dynamite crop of MLB ready OF available in the minors to go to.
  21. Thoughts on signing CarGo? Still hits RHP very well despite his down season: .283/.373/.463. Won't be as speedy or good on defense as a Dyson, but he does have more power and should come cheap. Obviously it's yet to be determined if Teoscar is a platoon guy or not, but I like the idea of a CarGo/Teoscar platoon in RF. Then you have Pearce as well and Alford in AAA. That'd be some really good depth. There's a risk there though. His avg exit velocity dipped from 90.1 mph last season to 85 mph this season and his batted ball profile isn't exactly encouraging. I still think he's a good option against RHP though.
  22. Braves are gonna lose Kevin Maitan and other for cheating: https://deadspin.com/report-braves-will-have-to-give-up-prospects-as-punish-1820494309 Coppolella messed up hardcore. That's a huge loss. Maitan is gonna be a free agent subject to IFA rules and gets to keep his bonus.
  23. AL Cy Young: 1. Corey Kluber (28 1st place votes) 2. Chris Sale (runner-up) 3. Luis Severino NL Cy Young: 1. Max Scherzer (27 1st place votes) 2. Clayton Kershaw (runner-up) 3. Stephen Strasburg Runaway for both awards. I'd say they got it right. Kershaw missed too much time again.
  24. Enough that it's probably not worth it.
  25. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/projecting-the-minor-league-free-agent-hitters-2/ Former Blue Jays farmhand Christian Lopes is #1. KATOH really likes him apparently. Projecting him for 2.8 WAR.
