  1. Maybe so. But do you reckon it'll still be a viable thing say 20 years from now? I don't think it will be in the traditional sense, but I guess there will always be play by play options to listen to while you drive regardless of the format or how it's utilized.
  2. Some of you guys still haven't bit the Sportsnet1 bullet? I like it. I think it's well worth the money.
  3. That's awesome man! And yes, I can certainly see how the radio could be a godsend for a die-hard fan who drives for a living:D I guess the radio isn't as dying of a media platform as I had thought.
  4. See, I find listening to a talk/call in show show different though. I guess I'm just of a generation that's spoiled by the TV but I find any kind of sports broadcast on the radio to be incredibly boring.
  5. Yeah, that was a thought that popped into my head too. I was curious, but you guys have made a great case for it. On another hand, I can't think of any other sports team that gives anywhere near the level of TV promotion where the radio guys almost utilized as a celebrity. Generally it's just: "You can also listen to the games on AM550" or whatever the regional dial is.
  6. Fair enough. I suppose I'm just a guy who prefers listening to music when I drive.
  7. hmmm, I've never had MLB.TV so I've never tried it. I did try it on my stereo while the game was on though and it just didn't mesh up well.
  8. I suppose if you have like an hour long commute or something that the radio's a way to go. But even If I'm making a 20 minute commute home around game time I'd rather not even bother fussing around with the AM dial and listening to it while I drive. It's not that big of a deal missing a few innings here and there. I guess my point is that it just seems like such a small niche market at this point... Which is fine, but it seems a little odd to be giving all this TV promo time to a radio guy.
  9. I've seen a lot of Jerry Howarth worked into the promo material during commercials and commemorations and such lately. And sure, that's a nice nod to the people who listened to him 20-30 years ago when every game wasn't broadcast on TV or whatever but why would anyone in their right mind bother listening to AM radio in this day and age? The qualities absolutely terrible and if you have a TV or internet theres way better options. I've heard some fans mention that they don't like the TV play-by-play guys so they mute the TV and listen to Jerry, but really, I've tried this and it syncs up bad and it really doesn't work out smoothly like you'd think it would. It just seems like such an archaic and obsolete medium to follow a game by. So I wonder, is there really a lot of fans who still enjoy games by this medium?
  10. Perhaps, but Chavez always seems to give it up when it hurts the most. For as solid as the pen numbers are, there really isn't anyone I feel all that comfortable with after Osuna and maybe Grilli. Grilli's been a fantastic pick-up who I'm glad to admit that I was wrong about. He really seems re-energized after coming to the Jays. Hard to blame him though, It's gotta be tough to get amped up pitching for a team as brutal as the Braves. It feels so weird and foreign to see the Braves being the dumpster fire of the league. I never thought I'd see the day.
  11. That does seem to be their biggest problem. I think Chavez has come in about 4 or 5 times this year with a couple of guys on base only to promptly give up a bases clearing double or long-ball. Gibbons needs to realize he's the kind of guy you can only bring in during a clean inning.
  12. Thanks Kelly. Yeah, I was a little surprised at a response or 2... Especially the " K...." in a huge font reply. I really didn't think it was that controversial of an idea:confused: Not really a good call on my part though as I was frustrated that it hadn't happened already. Seemed like a no-brainer at that point but it's reassuring that Shapiro and Atkins aren't gonna fuss around with someone who isn't producing... Big name or not. It'll be interesting to see who they target before the deadline. If you move Sanchez to the pen, it certainly addresses a lot of the bullpen uncertainties but then it leaves a big hole in the rotation. Either way, there should be a lot of fun things to talk about coming up.
  13. Praise the Shatkins! I like these guys. I had grown so frustrated with Anthopolous holding on to every bargain-bin acquisition in hopes that they just might pan out. JoJo Reyes anyone? To the people annoyed that Tepera is the "replacement": don't worry. This is a temporary move. It's almost a certainty that they'll beef up the bullpen before the trade deadline.
  14. Yeah, wasn't there reports 2 months ago that the Jays wanted to trade him? The guy seems miserable and it's pretty clear for whatever reason that it's just not gonna work out for him here. May as well take a chance with someone else at this point. Heck, a guy like Wade Leblanc would have been a better option. I get that it's hard to cut bait because at the start of the season the prospect of having Storen in the back end of the pen sounded really awesome and it's hard to just up and let go, but I highly doubt theres gonna be any bounce-back here.
  15. Can't see this guy helping us at all down the stretch, and you'd have to be crazy to trust him in any sort of high leverage situation... May as well just cut our losses cause I doubt we'll be able to get anything in return.
  16. It really was odd that Oakland pummeled him so hard in that huge ballpark with Stromans elite GB rates though. It's a head scratcher and shows that advanced stats don't tell a black and white story.
  17. Let's not get carried away guys. Stromans a very useful part to this rotation. His makeup works very well in the 4/5 starter roll. I think the media narrative gave people unattainable expectations for the Stro-show. He has natural talent, and he makes it work great for a small man, but let's not pretend like we have another ace-like Halladay pitcher on our hands... It's not gonna happen. Strow's splits this year have been bad while his pre-2016 splits are fantastic. It shows that the opponents are making adjustments and aren't fooled by his repertoire anymore. This is natural. Oakland came out with a good LHB heavy lineup, and Strow struggled. It's gonna happen. Sometimes he'll look great, sometimes he'll get pummeled and in the end his numbers will be that of a 4/5 starter... And that's just fine.
  18. Well guys, he's on average to accumulate 0.18 WAR this season. That's gotta be worth an 8.5 million dollar extension right? It's not like he posted well below replacement level numbers for 3 outta 6 of his seasons in the show... Oh s***, wait... f***.... If this is the best option they have, just let Montero have a crack at it. He can't be much worse than Smoak, and you'd be paying a fraction of the cost.
  19. *Confirmation that Shapiro is unaware or doesn't pay attention to sabermetrics *
  20. ahhh that image above brings back nostalgia. Just happened to be the one that popped up on google. Too bad there wasn't a 2nd wildcard back then, who knows what might have happened.
  21. I mean this looks pretty cool for an away uniform http://balanceoffood.typepad.com/.a/6a00e55214ffbe8834019b0471c8e3970d-pi and these uniforms were cool The only clusterf*** of it all is the black hats. Use a navy blue or a blue like the one on the jersey and it makes all the difference in the world.
  22. I wore all the 2010 era jerseys and hats. I thought they were nice. The black uniform was stupid but the white and grey ones were nice. I think the hatred for the older JPR/Early AA jerseys is overstated. Don't get me wrong, I love the new ones more but I still think the grey and white uniforms were sharp and the hat logo was cool.
  23. I'm not against it if we could get a big haul to rebuild with while still being an offensive powerhouse without him. But I think his injuries and performance this year neglect us from getting a goldmine.
  24. To help the team land a playoff spot? I love what I'm seeing from the team lately, and my nervousness has been mostly qualmed but I don't think the playoffs are exactly a shoe-in.
