  1. but even Tabler was a lot better with Shulman too. Maybe it's just kind of a s***** chemistry between the 2? Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's NEARLY as bad as fans make it out to be on Reddit or forums, but together the 2 can be sometimes less than entertaining... to put it nicely.
  2. Nicely put. I couldn't have said it better myself. I watch him with Shulman or when he did the TBS broadcasts and when he wasn't the one "carrying the load" he could actually be quite charming and interesting. He still manages to do this with Tabler sometimes but it's just like it drags on and on through the game. As much as it hurts to say it (as I'm admittedly kind of a homer) I think the blame lies largely with Tabler. I hate to bust his balls cause he seems like a genuinely nice guy but he gets kinda stagnant and redundant during a season.
  3. That's true. It just sucks cause so many guys are under-performing and there really isn't one guy on the team just tearing the cover off the ball. Smoaks been far from the biggest problem, but In my minds eye you need a really productive slugger manning first-base. Smoak has some pop and connects for a few dingers, but I don't think his bats productive enough to occupy that position. It was a similar problem that another kid coming up with the Jays had several years back... David Cooper?(i think) had a potential filled bat but couldn't hit enough homers to be worthwhile. The idea of acquiring Smoak was a good one in a " this kid would probably mash outta Safeco" way but in a do or die year he isn't the guy to be taking a chance on.
  4. Although since he's still employed by them I'd be willing to bet everything's tame and toned down to the max.
  5. Well, I get that. But a huge part of the mans life has revolved around the Blue Jays. A big-ass memoir about his life has to have at least some interesting takes and stories that us die-hards would enjoy and haven't heard before. I'll read it over the next few days and get back to you guys if no one else has bothered to read it yet.
  6. 3.89XFIP is typically what a 3/4 starter will give you. Unless of course we're talking about some bottom-feeder team.
  7. I just saw this at my library today and picked it up. Have any of you guys read it yet? I hadn't heard anything about him even having a book out until they showed it in the Jays shop on a broadcast about a week or 2 ago. I'm a little surprised that it hasn't been discussed here at all from what I can tell. I haven't had the chance to start it yet but I'm just wondering if anyone else has read it and what they thought. If it's a total stinker I might not even bother.
  8. I see there's a ton of overreaction here. I think that mostly stems from the let-down that resulted from the media hyping the kid as being some sort of "ace" after a small sample size. Most talented pitchers are always gonna look better during their 1st or 2nd go-round the league. He's getting more starts under his belt and hitters are becoming more comfortable facing him. It's really as simple as that. Whether or not this ends up rattling Stroman or not is another story. I think he can act as a perfectly serviceable 4th starter type of guy who can toss the odd gem here and there.
  9. Pretty exciting game. I think it was a pretty decent effort from the Jays with all things considered. Orioles have a stacked offense and executed better at the plate. It was really a game that came down to the bullpens and the O's got the job done. Tough loss, but not a badly played game. I don't think much of Tyler Wilson but the Jays just have too much dead weight in the lineup right now. He's the kind of pitcher this team would have devastated last year. They seem to be paying the price for rushing Travis up, hopefully it's something he can bounce back from though. As for Stroman, it would have been nice to have gotten a better performance from him but I felt there was a real possibility that the O's may have torched him this evening so not a bad effort with all things considered. He gave the team the opportunity to win the game. Should be a fun match-up tomorrow. Hopefully Estrada gives us another gem.
  10. Yeah for sure. Another aspect that I haven't seen mentioned is the bounce-back angle after getting humiliated by losing 11-0 while only managing to get 3 hits. Usually teams are determined to go out and be on their A-game after a beat down like that and you'd figure facing Matt Boyd would be the perfect medicine. He was pretty much asking for it with all of those walks. Disappointing. But hey, that's the beauty of baseball: another game right around the corner tomorrow. Not gonna be an easy match-up against Zimmerman though. Hopefully Dickey's on his A- Game again.
  11. Good point. If he did give Sanchez the hook after allowing a hit or before the 9th and Osuna game in and lost it everyone would be calling for Gibby's head. With everything considered that was nearly an impossible game to lose and they somehow managed to do it. Still bummed out.
  12. The lack of production from Tulo's been a huge blow too. Who could have imagined that his bat would be as useless as it's been for us? It's difficult cause there's no real young spark plug to ignite the offense or anything either. As good as they were last year it's hard to fathom that they won't be able to turn it around though but s***... The time is ticking away here.
  13. Well, a lot of managers in that role will let their starter go out and pitch the inning until a runner reaches base and then give him the hook (especially in a 2 run game). That way if the pitcher gives up a rip you still let Osuna come in and have a chance to save the game regardless if the inherited runner scores or not. Maybe with 2 outs you let Sanchez stay in after allowing a hit. To Gibby's credit he was lights out the entire game, so you win some you lose some.
  14. Thanks for sticking up for me:) appreciate that!
  15. Appreciate that. I do apologize for being a little negative lately. Long time fan who was incredibly excited for the season and I've been pretty frustrated by the approach of this offense and the bullpen. Watching Sanchez throw the game of his career was thrilling and seeing the offense squander opportunity after opportunity was infuriating. Doesn't help my emotions that I had the Jays in a few parlays that have otherwise turned up aces. I know Gibby used the lineup change as a little shakeup to get things going and the Jays did go on a run but he's gotta put an end to it. JB leading off, Martin hitting cleanup; it's bad managing.
  16. This teams a bunch of clowns. I can't even take it anymore.
  17. Guys on 2nd and 3rd with no outs and they can't score em..... jays had every opportunity to cash in runs tonight and they've only managed 2. This is a big problem folks.
  18. Nice to see Pillar launch one! The boys have also worked up Boyds pitch count nicely. Hopefully they can start tacking on some runs late in the game
  19. 4 walks through 4 and the offense can't even move em over... Lazy fly ball after lazy fly ball. Jays need some more OBP type guys. Saunders looking totally over matched too. I know he's been better this season, but I don't feel too comfortable having him facing lefties on a consistent basis.
  20. Last year the Jays would have crushed a lefty like that. Still time though!
  21. What's the deal with Martin batting 4th? Ughhh Gibby pisses me off.
  22. Sanchez is killing it! Best arm in the rotation by far. Now come on boys, score him some runs! Boyds not very good!
  23. He's performed well so far, but he's exactly the middle of the pack arm that I expect the Jays to crush. On the other hand I'm almost certain that Sanchez is the real deal and expect him to be the crown jewel of our rotation. Tigers are a RHB heavy grip it and rip it offense, so I'm fully expecting Aaron to carve them up. FINAL PREDICTION JAYS:7 TIGERS: 2
