  1. They lose Barnes for nothing anyway so this would have been a good time to bring him up.
  2. I took a quick glance at MLB Pipeline's top 100 prospect list and I saw a good sampling of 24 year olds on the list and a handful of 25 year olds as well. I don't think Smith is so old that it will impact his prospect standing to a great degree.
  3. I don't think you really could have hoped for a better bounce back season than Smith has been having. He is producing career best walk and power numbers, while also having significantly cut down on his strikeouts at the same time. Smith didn't really have any questions about his defensive ability, his ultimate ceiling was all based on whether he could improve his results at the plate. His success doesn't appear to be based on an unsustainable BABIP hot streak, and seems to be due to improved approach and plate discipline. This bodes very well for his chances to translate some of this into major league success. Smith may be a little old now, but you need to factor in the lost season due to covid.
  4. You can effectively ignore that 40FV at this point as that was based on the disappointing 2019 season. With the monster season Smith is putting up now he had re-established himself as a very good prospect. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him showing up in top 100 prospect lists.
  5. Minnesota management has stated that they aren't very interested in trading Berrios, and the reported asking price really backs that up. I like the idea of thinking outside the box and trading for Ramirez, and then using Semien to acquire prospects in return. These prospects could be utilized in addition to remaining prospects in the system to attempt to acquire a good quality controllable starting pitcher. Alternatively since Ramirez is so inexpensive there may be dollars left over to sign one of the good free agent shortstops. Imagine the idea of adding Correa on top of Ramirez, Bichette and Guerrero. That's the kind of infield dreams are made of. That wouldn't likely leave many dollars left over for the pitching staff however, and that could end up holding that club back just like the bullpen injuries did earlier this season.
  6. I would make that trade in a heartbeat. This feels a little light on the Blue Jays end to me though. For comparison Minnesota is reportedly asking for a similar return for Berrios to what you've proposed for Ramirez.
  7. Jays management has shown they are not scared in the slightest to really push their prospects. That's part of what makes it so disappointing that Moreno ended up getting hurt, in that he very likely would have forced his way onto the Jays roster this summer if he continued to torch minor league pitching the way he was.
  8. I think it's an awful lot to ask of him to develop an MLB capable defensive toolset at such a young age.
  9. Definitely agree on the soft tissue injuries. I've had my share of those and it's a nightmare to deal with as they are so easy to aggravate and set yourself nearly back to square one.
  10. I think that's what the front office will eventually decide to do with Adams. Right now he might actually be more useful as a depth piece, if Kirk or McGuire were to get hurt we would be left with Juan Graterol getting regular starts.
  11. For what it's worth projections system having him bouncing back into the mid 60's for WRC, but I don't see a realistic path to him receiving over 100 more plate appearances unless two Jays catchers go down for most of the rest of the season.
  12. He certainly needs to cut the k's down if he wants any chance for an MLB career. I thought he looked pretty decent defensively at least, so at first I though Adams might turn into a Mike Zunino slugging catcher. But then I compared Adam's and Zunino's strikeout numbers, and discovered that Adam's minor league strikeout numbers are as bad as Zunino's MLB strikeout numbers.
  13. His offensive explosion is surprisingly not the best story of the minor leagues for a club that has a ton of them. I think first place goes to Moreno's massive AA performance, he very well may have rocketed up to the major leagues this season if he were to keep it up. Other noteworthy performances include Manoah manhandling AAA hitters and MLB hitters in the spring, Samad Taylor muscling up and adding big time power in AA, and finally Kevin Smith seemingly resurrecting his career and reaching new heights with his performance in AAA. Unfortunately there have been some big disappointments as well. At the top I rank Moreno having his hand broken, closely followed by Pearson losing another year of starters experience by missing most of another season due to injury.
  14. Damiano Palmegiani sounds like the name of a cheese to me.
  15. Yeah it seems like that is what led to the disastrous 2019 season. He said he really likes to tinker with his swing, but the changes he made that year were hard to undo and he was a mess with trying to revert to his prior swing. It's looking more and more like the 2019 season is the outlier in an otherwise solid minor league career. The addition to his walk rate is the thing that's most encouraging to me, he's never walked at a pace like this previously, and he's also trimmed his strikeout rate to a more manageable level as well.
  16. Ryu is prone to bad stretches as well unfortunately. Just think back to how badly he was hammered in the playoffs last year. He had another bad stretch this year where he was getting lit up. So I guess that only leaves Ray who has been consistently good.
  17. There really isn't anything to lose by giving him a chance at some point. At worst you end up losing somebody off the fringes of the 40 man roster once Smith gets his initial chance. If he struggles he has all of his options remaining and you simply option him back down.
  18. It seemed like with AA as long as he had some vetrin presents type guys in the locker room that would cancel out the issues that the team dipshits ended up causing, then it didn't matter how many clowns he had on the roster at any period. There was a parade of awful veteran players who were paraded out, washed up players like Kevin Millar, Omar Vizquel and Mark DeRosa were supposed to hold the clubhouses together. Vizquel was supposed to mentor Yunel Escobar, and we all remember how his tenure with the team ended.
  19. Sounds an awful lot like Charlie with his justification of using Chatwood and Dolis.
  20. I'm a little torn as far as what I would prefer Smith to be used for. He has turned himself into an extremely valuable trade chip. A 140 WRC+ MLB ready shortstop who is a very capable defender and provides value on the bases is a very enticing trade asset. On the other hand he might be able to take over the third base position for the Jays and allow Biggio to move into more of a fulltime super utility role. The recent surge at the plate of Espinal complicates things even further.
  21. If you're happy with the boom bust method of team building then more power to you I guess. AA trading the bulk of his prospects away is part of the issue with not being able to build a sustainable winner under his tenure. The organization's failure to develop quality major leaguers is a separate issue, but this doesn't really validate the philosophy as a good one to employ.
  22. Vlad is the one of the few prospects he didn't trade away. Anthopoulos was on record that he viewed the minor league system more as trading currency to supplement the major league roster and that really shows. That regime saw very few minor league prospects directly contribute to the Jays in a meaningful way.
  23. That's good facial hair growth for an Asian dude in only 10 days. It would take my brother in law several months to grow a beard like that one . 😋
  24. Another bonus is that this regime isn't going to treat the minor league system players like Pokemon cards and trade all the good prospects away for expensive aging veterans.
