  1. Damn bad luck for the hitters this inning, solid contact with nothing to show for it.
  2. People seem to forget that the same catcher called most of Manoah's starts a season ago and he was a Cy Young finalist.
  3. Who would take his place though?
  4. Speed laces is where it's at. I had enough of laces that refuse to stay done up even with a double knot.
  5. Holy f*** that's bad. This season feels like a steady stream of bad umpires constantly trying to one up each other to see who has the worst umpire scorecard by the end of the season.
  6. I don't think Castillo was available to be traded for at the time when Berrios was acquired.
  7. He's legitimately one of baseball's best hitters when he's on a patented hot streak but then he goes into prolonged funks for weeks and even months at a time where he accomplishes nothing offensively.
  8. Bellinger's best month over the entire 2021-2022 seasons saw him produce a 125 WRC+. It's certainly far from a guarantee but his 152 WRC+ over his first 28 games of 2023 make it appear possible that he's figured some stuff out.
  9. Bass took far more abuse on Twitter after reporting this little incident than his wife ever did. So much so that he apparently deleted his account afterwards.
  10. Unlike you I actually enjoy when a player makes changes to his swing/routine/approach etc. and then experiences success as a result. It remains to be seen if Bellinger can recreate his April success but I'm not the type to make grand assumptions that just because he had several bad seasons in a row that he's automatically going to return to that previous form based on a few weeks where he isn't experiencing the same kind of success.
  11. Bass looks to be rounding into form recently, although much like Nate he's barely pitched over the last few weeks so it's tough to get a good read.
  12. Are you going to point out the same with Matt Chapman who had a 49 WRC+ for the month of May heading into today? Didn't think so. A bad few weeks doesn't erase an entire month of success you absolute nincompoop.
  13. Moreno's .300 is about as empty as possible with little power and next to no walks, so I won't lose any sleep over that right now.
  14. Ugliest game I've watched in a long time on both sides, thank f*** the boys pulled it out in the 9th. Super frustrating game, between the barrage of errors in the field, errors on the bases, inability to take advantage of golden scoring opportunities, and the blind idiot calling balls and strikes behind the plate there were a lot of reasons this game could have turned out badly. The pen was superb today in picking up Kikuchi after a rough outing.
  15. I think it's literally impossible for anyone on the face of the earth to hate the Red Sox more than board member Grant77.
  16. My first thought was to check Joey Gallo. He's only posted over .900 OPS once in his career, and that season he batted .253. He had another season with a .869 OPS and .209 so he's been close. The dude who didn't like baseball Adam Dunn was another guy I checked, his closest full season was .236 batting average w/.898 OPS.
  17. I haven't looked at that, I was just more wondering how his relative performance looks this year in his second inning of work. In one of those outings it appears as though he may have fell victims to the BABIP gods, and there are two where his command was shaky during the second inning.
  18. Chapman is struggling a bit right now, he only has a 49 WRC+ for the month of May, vs Varsho who has a 162 WRC+ for the month of May.
  19. I'd argue Bassitt's numbers are still being dragged down by one disastrous start. His numbers are starting to more closely resemble his career norms since then, save for a too high walk rate.
  20. I was curious about Garcia's results during his second inning of work (or at least finishing an inning and then coming back for the next one) and he generally hasn't been very effective after the Jays at bat. He's been brought 4 times after sitting down between innings, and 2 of them have been very poor. 4/4 1st inning: retired all 3 hitters 2nd inning: retired 2 hitters, 1 single (nice outing, pulled at good time) 4/18 1st inning: retired both hitters 2nd inning: retired 1 batter, 2 singles (pulled in reasonable timeframe) 5/7 1st inning retired both batters 2nd inning retired 1 batter, 2 singles, 1 walk, 1 double (should have been pulled sooner) 5/13 1st inning retired 1 batter 2nd inning single (probably should have been called an error), 2 BB, 1 GO (should have been pulled sooner, command was obviously scattershot this inning)
  21. The team was stuck in the baseball operations stone ages before the Shapiro hire. I can't believe that he still faces so much derision from a good portion of the fanbase given how much he has accomplished towards modernizing the entire organization.
  22. The team only has so many relievers that they trust so it's not always possible to bring in a guy for a fresh inning of work. Sometimes a reliever is simply going to need to be picked up by a mate from the pen when he finds his way into trouble. There are plenty of times where the team prefers to avoid using a guy on a given day if possible, so that very well could factor in to how they've attempted to stretch some of the relievers into a second inning on occasion. I'd like to see Schneider be a little quicker to give the hook to relievers when it's readily apparent that they don't have it that day, but the endless complaining about guys getting up a second time is completely over the top.
  23. I can easily see him wanting to re-sign with the team given how well things have gone for him with the Jays. The team has been managing his playing time very well (maybe the high performance team is good for something despite all of the complaining from the fanbase about load management). We shall see if he can manage to avoid missing a bunch of time due to injury. Kiermaier specifically mentioned the need to avoid being reckless on the field, and we've seen evidence of this already as he's been sliding foot first more often instead of head first, and making sliding catches in the outfield vs making head first dives.
  24. How is he my 18 million dollar man? If you go back you'll see I voted Kiermaier in the poll that you posted up during the offseason. Go bark up a different tree. Bellinger was legitimately getting great results in April and it wasn't a fluke. He's likely just been in a slump for the last week or so, but of course you are going to go and act like he's been bad the entire season.
  25. I'm sure you'll totally do the same when Kiermaier hits an inevitable slump and Bellinger heats up again.
