Yeah I agree, can't see a deal of that magnitude happening now. Also leaves us way too light in the rotation. I do like Burnes in particular, but I don't have either of those guys sniffing top 25 range. To deal a quality young starter with some control, I'd really need to be excited about the centerpiece, top 25 type excited. -

I still think we should bring in some sort of veteran who could make for a sufficient back up but also cheap enough to stash in Buffalo if/when Jansen or McGuire prove to be ready (which could be as soon as ST) - then you're letting those two prospects dictate their own timetable rather than having no choice but to keep one up (and call up the other in the event of an injury).

I doubt he retires, too much talk from his camp about playing next year. Someone will end up giving him a (likely incentive laden) contract, Tampa seems like a perfect fit. They could get some cheap production if he rebounds at all, and if so he perhaps draws some trade interest later in the year from a contender.

Today, Red Sox pitcher Tanner Houck became the latest player to leave agent Jason Wood and CSE, Robert Murray of FanRag Sports reports (separate links). The player exodus, of course, comes in the midst of allegations that Wood filmed players in his shower with a secret camera. Houck is now with CAA sports, and joins Mitch Keller, Jake Odorizzi, Riley Pint, Joey Wentz, Cody Asche, and Taylor Gushue as players who have left CSE to sign with other agencies. As Murray points out, many are expected to follow in their footsteps, perhaps including one of the agency’s most notable clients, Andrew Benintendi From MLBTR

Yeah this makes the most sense to me, they're just posturing in the name of leverage, trying to make it appear that they're not tied to making a deal.

Yeah bad math on my part, but either way...moving an aging corner OF to the middle infield just seems silly and backwards to me. Surely there's a better way of getting their best bats together in the lineup.

Seems like if you're going to do something that extreme, it would still make more sense to move a younger athlete (like a Broxton or Phillips type) to the infield.

Don't let counting stats fool you, Morales sucks and it would be great to be rid of him and his contract - but that doesn't mean it's a good idea to give up Bichette to do it. Blair is clearly out to lunch here, I wouldn't be worried.
