  1. Every true genius level scout knows that any player who throws 10 straight balls should instantly retire. They also know that no young player has ever improved, that’s why no team ever hires coaches, and no one over the age of 20 has ever had a good career without dominating as a teenager first.
  2. I too wondered if Heyman’s tweet (where he said Hader was a great guy) triggered someone who knew Hader personally. But there haven’t been any reports of anyone (teammates or otherwise) saying they know him as anything other than a good guy now, so it’s probably just timed for maximum impact to coincide with the all star game.
  3. I obviously don’t agree, but it’s an interesting debate. In sports like baseball and cricket, where you have a series of controlled, repeated encounters, mainly 1 on 1, with limited variables, that can be compared over time, you can rely on stat scouting to value a player. There’s lots of advanced stats that can drill down and give useful data on top of raw data. For more fluid team sports like basketball and soccer there are too many variables to consistently and usefully compare one play/move to another. Actually watching players and evaluating their skills is more useful than stats, advanced or otherwise. TBF you probably watched more Raptors games last year than I did anyway!
  4. That’s objectively false.
  5. Nah, that’s obviously not true. You’re saying if DeRozan had been injured / held out, the Raptors would have won more games last year? Advanced basketball metrics aren’t as useful or accurate as in baseball.
  6. TBF there was zero chance Leonard was ever going to play for the Spurs again. You’re also underating DeRozan - he’s not the greatest player in the league and has obvious flaws, but come on he was All NBA second team last year. I also think you’re right when you say Pop has no interest in rebuilding in his last few years, so they weren’t interested in whatever offers they received that were based on picks/younger players.
  7. Considering that they had little leverage in trade talks, and that they made the playoffs last year basically without Leonard, I think they did OK. They’re probably a 4th / 5th seed in the West. They are probably relying on internal improvements while Pop is still there to coach the team. It’s not like the Spurs have ever been a major market for free agents anyway.
  8. Yeah it’d be cool if there was a post limit before starting a thread.
  9. Yeah it’d work out better if that returned one good prospect instead of 2 or 3 lottery tickets. Takes two teams to make a deal though, Shatkins might have to be patient to get the best deal.
  10. TBF he was acquired to upgrade on bench options like Goins so he doesn’t have to improve much from where he is right now to be seen as a success.
  11. Yeah it’s a shame really, maybe his brother will be more successful with Miami.
  12. Thought you talking about next season. As I said above, for now just call up a reliever, we already have enough outfielders.
  13. At this point Pompey is a DFA candidate next year when he's out of options, I've basically given up on him. I prefer DSJ for that role personally.
  14. If you've given up there really is no hope...... We can still prepare for next year and give more prospects / players with uncertain roles some playing time.
  15. Vlad and Bo obviously /s As long as he doesn't show any signs of after effects, Gurriel will be back at the weekend anyway. Call up a reliever for Pillar and give Smith Jr a run in the team - he could be the 4th outfielder next year.
  16. I assume it wasn’t as bad as the rumours and he didn’t actually punch her, otherwise MLB would surely not have taken the risk of his suspension ending before any court case. If video leaks of him punching / attacking her he’s in trouble, otherwise it looks like he’s going to be OK.

  18. It’ll be interesting to see how DeRozan fits in with the Spurs.
  19. That's good to hear, hopefully they'd be more successful than the Vancouver Grizzlies were. A West coast Canadian team in the NL would be a nice kind of symmetry, and would limit the "Canada's team" stuff that a lot of you don't seem to like!
  20. Especially if Leonard decides to sit out the second season in a row because he doesn't want to play for his team! That'd be crazy, but who could have predicted he'd do it with the Spurs last year?
  21. His current account now has the blue tick that shows it's authentic. If he switched his account once he was drafted, then got a tick on the new account once he became well known enough to be eligible for one, it gives more weight to the excuse of "I was a dumb kid who didn't know any better". If he'd taken the extra step of deleting the old account, it'd also mean the only way someone would find the old tweets would be if they had followed him and knew him at the time, and had the motivation to save the tweets.
  22. Wow it's happening:
  23. I loved the city of Vancouver, but could they sustain a MLB team so close to Seattle? Or would the second be somewhere else (assuming Montreal is the first option)?
  24. Looking forward to seeing Luka Doncic after he skipped the Summer League.
  25. You'd think the MLB teams would give basic social media training to its players. This could have been avoided by him starting a new twitter account when he became a professional.
