    Yeah exactly - it’s a different market for Happ vs controllable pitchers. However, to give up actual assets (as oppose to lottery tickets) that you don’t really want to teams are going to want more than a pretty good rental IMO.

    I hope I’m wrong but I feel that any team that gets desperate for pitching is more likely to go all in for an Archer or deGrom with extra control.

    Yeah IMO SRF has a great chance to be in the rotation next season. We likely sign a veteran to a short deal as well. That might be Estrada if he accepts a one year deal (maybe plus an option).

    Look Stroman seems like a knob, but Griffin can f*** right off with his no one can have success without answering questions from the media theory. It’s only an issue if it causes clubhouse unrest with the other players - which doesn’t seem to be the case. I personally in that situation would hate talking to the media, though I’d like to think I’d handle it better than Stroman does.

    The best outcome for both parties is probably JD accepting a QO. He gets a chance to show he can stay fit and still play at a high level, we don’t have to trade him for peanuts or get a low draft pick as compensation.

    It’s possible his defence is that it was an argument with fault on both sides. Maybe he’s saying he pushed her and she fell, rather than he hit her. There’s lots of scenarios where he’d still get a ban from MLB for effectively bringing the game into disrepute, but not enough legally to be found guilty of assault. Have to assume MLB talked to him and advised that even if they accept his version, it’s still ban worthy.

    Yeah exactly. I'm probably higher on him than most as I think he could end up being the the replacement for Travis at 2B, but that's a best case scenario IMO.

    Haha, not sure if serious? He's 24, has 5 and a half years left on a 7 year contract, can play multiple positions, has played less than one season's worth of games since coming over, and has significant more upside than the trash we've been using as the 25th man / utility guy (Urshela, Gift etc). Why would you not have him on the 25 man now that the playoffs are almost certainly out of reach?

    I’d point out that Manny Machado was shopped in the off season but wasn’t traded, in part because there wasn’t any decent offers made. Just because we didn’t shop JD doesn’t mean we didn’t get at least calls/winter meeting discussions. I believe Shatkins would have traded JD if they thought a good offer was on the table. If the only offers were going to be rubbish, then it was worth the risk of keeping him IMO. If he’d had an elite year we’d get a better return, if he’s injured, good chance of a QO being accepted.

    Yeah exactly, not really a comparable situation. Osuna (as he’s pleading not guilty) can say it was a moment of madness in an argument and be redeemed - though probably with a new team.

    Their original justification was so they could trade slot money to acquire pitching that was ready sooner to help the team while it’s a contender (I’m not joking). Now.... xenophobia I guess? Make Baltimore Great Again.
