  1. Don't buy a Graterol jersey just yet: "It’s been a hectic offseason for Graterol, who was designated for assignment by the Angels back on Nov. 22 and has changed teams on four occasions since. The Reds claimed Graterol off waivers when he was first designated, and he’s since gone to the Diamondbacks and then back to the Angels on waivers before today’s claim."
  2. We've designated Leonel Campos to make room on the 40 man.
  3. Maximising fan support from outside the Toronto area can only be a good thing finance wise. Increased sales of merchandise, tickets, and Rogers tv packages all should help the team budget to continue to increase. TBF if people started wearing the red jerseys surely that would mean that they are popular and not considered ugly by the people wearing them? FWIW I don't really like the red uniforms. But, as an alternative that probably will be used at most 15 times a year, it's not something to get that worked up about IMO.
  4. Ventura said Bautista was overrated, and they had a bit of a back and forth through the media. Then in spring training last year there was a story that Ventura was saying in the clubhouse that he couldn't wait until he faced Jose again so that he could throw at him - and some of the KC veterans called him out on it.
  5. Yes, though he had issues with a lot of other teams too - notable Machado and the Orioles.
  6. Remember when Ventura pitched the game of his life in the World Series while wearing a tribute on his hat, a few days after his friend Taveras died? That was less than three years ago.
  7. DR is the most dangerous place to drive in the Western Hemisphere British foreign office advice for travelers to the DR: "Although most major roads are reasonably good, general standards of driving are poor. Drivers weave from lane to lane and rarely signal. Many vehicles are in a state of disrepair. Unlit vehicles - especially motorbikes - are common. Where possible you should avoid driving outside the main cities at night. Road accidents are frequent, especially during holiday periods like Christmas when drink-driving related incidents are common."
  8. It's all over Twitter but no official confirmation yet.
  9. Same crash or no?
  10. Not really. Drew Storen was half way through a 1 year $8m contract and had a track record of success prior to joining us. Relievers often will change teams mid season and then put up good numbers. Smoak is a 2 year commitment to a 1B only player who has no track record of success and has been terrible recently.
  11. I'm excited to see a bounce back year for Bautista. Last year couldn't have gone much worse for him, two major injuries, he looked done as a outfielder, the punch, and his dreams of a "deserved" big contract shattered.
  12. It's true that $4m a year is relatively low. But the point is that Smoak wouldn't be able to get that contract as a free agent. Why would any team give up any assets to trade for Smoak just to then be overpaying him? If we were able to find a team that wants him, we'd almost certainly have to eat some salary to make a trade work.
  13. Fair enough re Magic, I obviously disagree re Westbrook.
  14. Giannis has amazing potential and is a very good player, but at this stage of his career you're dreaming to call him better than Westbrook right now, let alone Magic.
  15. Yeah I agree, and as soon as Westbrook starts to decline he'll become a liability because he's unlikely to stop trying to do it all himself. He's only 28 though, so he should have at least 3 more seasons of being a top ten player in the league.
  16. If Straily is in your top 2, you've got to include Shelby Miller too.
  17. Joba Chamberlain on a minor league deal to the Brewers.
  18. Time for a BJMB list thread? 1. Kershaw 2. Scherzer 3. Syndergaard 4. Sale 5. Arrieta 6. Price 7. Kluber 8. Bumgarner 9. Archer 10. Darvish
  19. No Price, Darvish or Arrieta? No Mets or Cleveland pitchers?
  20. That's a pretty narrow minded view. For a Canadian who likes baseball but doesn't live in Toronto, would you expect them to support the Yankees or Dodgers instead?
  21. TBF that's by necessity as he's on a bad team. Put in the same situation only LeBron, and Giannis (in a few years) could get close to what Westbrook is doing. Westbrook is unstoppable and unlike a lot of guards is actually also a pretty good defender.
  22. This season only: 1. Curry 2. Westbrook 3. Harden 4. Paul 5. Lowry 6. Thomas 7. Wall 8. Irving 9. Conley 10. Bledsoe
  23. For the next 3 years (the ages of Paul, Lowry, and Conley harm their rank): 1. Curry 2. Westbrook 3. Irving 4. Lillard 5. Paul 6. Lowry 7. Wall 8. Bledsoe 9. Conley 10. Rubio / Thomas Both Giannis and Harden would be top 5 if I thought they'd be PGs for all 3 years.
  24. Gurriel has arguably a better chance of contributing something significant before any of those prospects too (unless Gibbons allows Pompey a chance).
