Same. He relies less on fastballs, especially with 0-2 counts, and uses more offspeed to trick the hitters. Martin seems to just call pitches with no rhyme or reason.
It would be real nice to shut down the Royals' offense the rest of the series for a multitude of reasons, but doing it just to watch Fox go radio silent would be perhaps the most pleasurable victory.
I'm also starting to believe that Navy is a much better game caller than Martin as well. Navy calls a lot of off-spead stuff to mess with the hitters timing, while Martin seems to call a lot of fastballs in hitters' hot zones and on 0-2 counts which leads to pitchers failing to put batters away (especially noticeable in this post-season).
I know Tulo had a poor year by his standards, but does his track record disappear with his 2015 performance? I would think he would still be highly coveted despite the contract. What about Tulo and a sweetener like Revere, would that get it done?
That's very possible as well! I wonder if a Tulo for Carrasco trade would actually be even or if one side would have to contribute more? Perhaps Toronto would have to pay some of Tulo's salary and Cleveland would have to add a prospect?
What are your thoughts?
Shift one of the 3 to 3rd. Any of them are an improvement over Aviles and Urshela. That's a non-issue as using them to man the infield improves their defense and offense exponentially.
If we re-tool it would only be for MLB ready needs I believe. I could see a Tulo for Carrasco trade since it fits both teams' needs evenly, while dealing from a position of strength.
Today is Price's scheduled BP day right? Maybe he could be good for 25-30 pitches in relief, then start in Game 6?
All I know is the pitchers can't throw 1st pitch fastballs as frequently anymore, especially early. I hope Navarro and Estrada have a game plan to prevent the heavy contact early in the at-bat.
I think Osuna could turn into an elite starter with his command and swing and miss potential. I think his ceiling would be Carrasco, with his pitch arsenal, only at a much younger age.
It would be smart to try and model Osuna's development as a starter after Carrasco (Carrasco jumped to 14 starts and 130+ innings in 2014 after 40+ innings in 2013). Start him in the bullpen as a long-man before putting him into the rotation around June with no handcuffs (the way Carrasco's 2014 went). Watching tape of Carrasco could help as well, as his composure and presence is similar to Osuna.
Not bad, I could see AA do that for Carrasco. He could win multiple Cy Youngs with our offense. I like the idea of stretching Hendriks out as well. I wonder if we could package Revere with a prospect to get Chapman?
This. That said I do think they should consider changing their approach to guys like Gallardo, Jimenez, Young, and Volquez. Maybe a less patient, hitting oppo, approach would work better against pitchers like that.
