I'd say he has the stuff to be an ace but I don't know if he has the mental makeup to be an ace. Watching Price this season, I am reminded once again a true ace is more than just having electric stuff. It's about delivering and exceeding expectations even when those expectations are arguably "unreasonable"... I mean I watched Price when he was with the Rays and somewhat when he was with the Tigers. What he surprised me with in his time with us is not so much his stuff - I always knew he could paint with all of his pitches - it was him delivering in these high pressure situations. Just from last season alone, I considered Sanchez as having more electric stuff than Stro. Seeing Stro not only come back this year but in the games that he's pitched and what those games meant in the run for the division, I would actually give the odds to Stro to be the ace over Sanchez...
I am somewhat surprised by the attitude regarding Sanchez held by some here. I see a guy who doesn't merely just throw hard (there are career A ball guys doing that) but has a live arm which you can't teach. Not only does he have a live arm, he also has velocity. That's something that shouldn't be taken lightly. His troubles in the BP the last month, IMO has more to do with him being mis-used than anything else. Overall I think a sinker baller is not as effective in the BP as a swing-and-miss guy; maybe more situational. Is he still a "diamond in the rough" - No doubt but to me, he is still a diamond nonetheless
I am not saying he is an untouchable but given his age, I would for sure try to harness it and with the signing of Martin, I thought that was the whole idea...
