  1. Ah the magic number. I've had to explain this to a couple of younger folks in the last few weeks. I suppose only those of a certain age can appreciate it's nostalgic value.
  2. I find Toronto baseball fans (actual baseball fans, that is) to be more into current metrics than American Yankees fans I've interacted with, they have more old school philosophies. Regardless, I was speaking to attendance, which is what this thread is about, and I believe they react much the same way as Jays fans or most any other fans given similar situations.
  3. Yankees fans are no better or worse than Jays fans. If situations were reversed we'd see the same situation reversed. There is nothing more annoying than bandwaggoners getting on some sort of high horse about attendance and kicking the Yankees' fans while they are down. -1 for the lousy post of the OP. -1000 for making me defend Yankees fans.
  4. Solid pickup to give us added depth through the rest of the regular season.
  5. s*** happens. The baseball gods gave us back Stroman earlier than expected and required a sacrifice in return. If I had to choose, I'd rather have Stroman given how desperately we need a true number 2 behind Price. Who'd have thought that the pickup of Pennington could actually end up being quite important?
  6. I don't know, given the complaining going on, I have to assume they don't. If they do, this thread is quite the waste of time.
  7. Truth is, they should offer to just give a physical stub to fans that want one. The cost would be negligible, especially given the proportion of fans that would really want one.
  8. I'm going to support you here Gemione, partially because I do understand you point from a nostalgic/collectible standpoint, but mostly to be contrarian given the haters that are pissing on you for it. Please post more in the future, new posters are always welcome.
  9. We're probably screwed in that game either way, so might as well start the guy with the higher ceiling. Buehrle is basically a sure bet to get lit up, Stro will probably be so amped that the Yankees will feast on his poor location, but at least there's SOME chance he'll put it together. At least we know he's got the raw stuff to get them out. Honestly, Hutch might be the safest bet in that game, which is frightening.
  10. I got it bad like that once in high school playing soccer. Coach said to reach down my shorts and jiggle them. Didn't help. I think he was just messing with me.
  11. Bingo! This guy is a douche. It was always kind of obvious that he was, but he's sealed it now.
  12. In general, he seems like a bit of a diva though. I wonder what happens when this guy gets his big money contract. Will he stay motivated enough to honour that contract to the best of his ability? If it's my money, I wouldn't take that risk with him.
  13. While I do understand that, from an ownership standpoint, I wouldn't feel comfortable signing a guy like this long term to big money. Those contracts for pitchers are risky as they are, but guys like this, I'd stay away from. There's just something missing with him, despite the obvious talent.
  14. Isn't he still shilling for Qalcomm on nationally syndicated radio shows?
  15. I just don't know how we don't hang more crooked numbers on Ubaldo. Can't win them all; O's can hit, nonetheless Hutch's inconsistency is a concern. He just implodes at times. I want to believe in him, but every time I start to, he goes and does something like this.
  16. I don't see why people are so bothered by the notion that Bautista might have a bit of jealousy towards JD. It doesn't mean he roots against JD, nor does it mean he's not thrilled to have him here, but it is possible to feel all of those things at the same time. JB is very proud, he has seniority and he was widely considered the leader of the team and now JD comes in and the virtues previously extolled on JB are now being extolled on JD, all the while JB is having yet another solid season in his own right (and in his mind he thinks he also gets it done on both sides of the ball, even if we don't agree). There's nothing wrong with a bit of professional jealousy; just human nature. Only Jose knows for sure, but I agree it would be naive to think he doesn't feel a bit overlooked.
  17. It's not 2005 anymore. I think it's looking more and more likely that he gets left out of the rotation if Stroman returns.
  18. I do think people are getting way ahead of themselves, but if Stroman is healthy and effective, I'd put Estrada ahead of both Buehrle and Dickey. Where I put Hutch still depends on what he does down the stretch, but I can definitely see a situation that has Buehrle and Dickey not make the playoff rotation. It would be a good problem to have.
  19. I'm not sure how much a president actually matters. Much like managers, I suspect it's much less than people think, but we'll see I guess. Not happy or bothered by it. At least it's somebody with experience.
  20. Getting that trade value up by the game. He has made the loss of Travis much more palatable than I thought possible. He looks like a different hitter completely. He's got swagger at the plate now. Having said all that, I'm still very cautious about whether this is just a good run or a real turning point. The fact that his approach and patience appears different and he's not just having a bunch of hit balls find holes gives me hope that it may be somewhat sustainable.
  21. I don't know what to make of it, it really is strange. Obviously, the Yankees and Red Sox are paranoid about the Jays doing something. The fact that they use multiple signs with nobody on base speaks to this fact. They both have had players play for them that have played for the Jays and the Sox have the Jays former manager. So if nothing was going on, they would know nothing was going on, and there would be no reason to continue being paranoid. Or perhaps something is going on, and they do know about it, but if it's something inappropriate, why not involve major league baseball and make a big stink about it? Do the Yankees and Red Sox do this against the Jays in their own ballparks? Do they do it with other teams, or just Toronto? I've made a mental note to watch for these things, but I always forget.

  23. Have they changed ticket prices in the last couple of weeks? Mine were the same as they have been all season. I actually think baseball tickets are the best bang for your buck among Toronto sports.
  24. Doctors can only do so much, everybody is different in how their body reacts. You have to trust the athlete to be honest about how they are feeling. Therein lies the problem: athletes will often lie, sometimes even to themselves, to get back early. I really, really want Stroman back, but if the Jays decide to be extra cautious, even during a pennant race, I will at least understand their position. Just as concerning for me is Stroman trying to protect the knee and compensating by putting more strain on the arm or shoulder as a result. Although that would be a risk regardless of whether he comes back this year or next.
