Why don't the Jays go all-in and sell the farm for Carrasco and Fiers? 4/5 of the rotation would be under control for most of the remainder of the decade. You'd have young controllable players in Travis, Pillar, Osuna, Sanchez and Donaldson. Martin is here long-term, Reyes is around for a while. Bautista will be extended eventually. That's a pretty solid core to have and Buerhle and Dickey, among others, are off the books after this season. There's money to extend Bats, cover arbitration and fill some of the remaining holes to remain competitive while building up the farm system over the next few years.
I'm not going to guess what the cost might've been to acquire Carrasco that led to negotiations falling apart, but I've got to think we've got enough to land him and Fiers while avoiding touching the ML roster.
