    As we start into this potential rebuild, what kind of guys should the Jays target in free agency? I'd like to see them supplement their young core with some big names like Otani (if he's ever posted) and Harper. I know it's unlikely, but I'd like to see the Jays make a run at some big names if the rest of the squad is young, cheap and controllable.

    But weren't those all attempts to come back as starters? I'd think their chances of finding success as one inning or once through the order type guys is greater than a lot of the guys we'll have audition in ST

    So does anyone think Penny and Hernandez could be solid pieces out of the pen? I think Osuna stays up for the year as closer and Hutch and possibly Sanchez go to AAA as starting depth.

    I agree that Cleveland probably did ask for one of those guys, and luckily AA said no. Red flags are definitely popping up with Norris, but I think he's still got quite a bit of value. I know Hoffman's K rate is down right now, but he's working his way back from TJ. The progress seems to be pretty good so far, so I'd hope teams would see him as having a lot of value still. My original suggestion may not be enough, but would Cleveland go for a package with one or two elite prospects or four or more solid prospects? Toronto seems to have a lot of solid prospects, but not really any elite.

    Sorry, no. Forgot to write Stroman in that list, lol. I included him as part of my 4/5 controllable starters in the rotation, just left him off the list.

    Well I feel like the Donaldson trade is a good comparable (though I don't know which FO would be considered the better at trade acquisition), but that trade came out of nowhere and netted us a guy who competes for the AL MVP. Now that trade costed us our starting 3B basemen at the time, which would probably mean Cleveland would go a similar route and ask for someone like Stroman. I absolutely would not do that, but do you think something like Hoffman, Norris and Pompey would go ignored by Cleveland? Seems like a pretty strong offer.

    Why don't the Jays go all-in and sell the farm for Carrasco and Fiers? 4/5 of the rotation would be under control for most of the remainder of the decade. You'd have young controllable players in Travis, Pillar, Osuna, Sanchez and Donaldson. Martin is here long-term, Reyes is around for a while. Bautista will be extended eventually. That's a pretty solid core to have and Buerhle and Dickey, among others, are off the books after this season. There's money to extend Bats, cover arbitration and fill some of the remaining holes to remain competitive while building up the farm system over the next few years. I'm not going to guess what the cost might've been to acquire Carrasco that led to negotiations falling apart, but I've got to think we've got enough to land him and Fiers while avoiding touching the ML roster.
