  1. During the championship years, Cito wasn't a great manager (by any stretch) but he didn't have to be. Just like the Yankees didn't need a great manager during their stacked dynasty years. Cito & Joe Torre (and most other managers then) didn't give a s*** about OBP and optimum lineups etc. For them, it was more about managing people (and egos) and making guys feel comfortable in their traditional roles ("table setter" ..."middle of the order RBI guy" etc. haha) ... Cito wasn't alone in that old school thinking. And the players loved playing for both Cito & Joe.
  2. Great job by Gibby to give Cola a couple of ABs against Archer ... and to give Russell the day off (funny how Navarro has caught the best pitching performances of the season so far) ... and to use Osuna to lock it down (with the off day tomorrow and with the Jays getting so few "save" situations.)
  3. Manfred is talking about expansion.
  4. yeah, Carter certainly doesn't make my "franchise four" (even though I have a good photo of my wife wearing his world series ring.) We still would've won without Joe's blast. Stieb's a no-brainer. I'd take Fernandez over Carter as well.
  5. doubt that's enough for Cinci.
  6. what's the most you'd give up for Chapman? (that could be acceptable to the Reds)
  7. wouldn't surprise me if Alex becomes the GM of Montreal when a MLB team eventually returns there.
  8. well with the stupid campaign to vote him in, he probably feels he can't disappoint all his supporters.
  9. Don't stress, bro, (after Buehrle wins the WC game) we're going with a 3-man rotation in the Division Series: Dickey, Hutch & Doubront.
  10. I agree with you. (I'm just throwing out the Reyes/Bautista hypothetical because some are so eager to run Reyes out of town.)
  11. under any circumstances? would any of the big spending clubs take on the entire remainder of Reyes contract PLUS BAUTISTA for just a Travis Snider type of outfielder coming back? and would you do that as Jays GM if Rogers promised you that the team's budget on payroll subsequently wouldn't be going down?
  12. what if a team really wants Bautista (even with the bad shoulder) and they'd take Reyes contract too in return for just an experienced 4th outfielder type ... would you make that deal?
  13. well, I wouldn't even call the Yankees issue-free. glory is trying to have it both ways: Gibby is f***ing up a team that should win the division and AA should be fired because his teams aren't good enough.
  14. very few teams are perfectly constructed ... so make up your mind, bro, whether Alex has put together a division winning type of team or not ... and if he has then fire him?
  15. so then AA's 2013-15 rosters aren't/weren't playoff material ... ok ... so how can the manager be blamed for not making them (the playoffs?)
  16. heard on the radio that Saunders is still sitting at home in Seattle with no timetable for his return ... yeah, pitching's the priority but hopefully we can upgrade in LF ... no more Cola shagging flies out there, pretty please.
  17. but in your previous post you're demanding that Alex be fired despite (as you say) putting together "the best Jays rosters in the past decade."
  18. there's no way Gibbons can do anything with Reyes without Alex's approval, since AA's the one who brought the "superstar" here and got Rogers to buy into the Miami trade by boosting payroll significantly.
  19. props to Bautista for opting out.
  20. also, maybe Alex is dangling Edwin's name out there in trade talks? ya don't want your manager rattling off all of Edwin's health issues in the media?
  21. well Kawasaki should be our shortstop for life based on the 2013 Kawasaki effect.
  22. yeah, but do they make the playoffs? (maybe that's where our run differential comes into play haha)
  23. what happens if every team in the A.L. finishes 81-81?
  24. Bingo. Edwin ain't 100% that's for sure.
  25. yeah, big time. especially with Hutch not taking a step forward.
